@@davieslocker86 You know...People have been playing their parts to pre-recorded tracks ever since multi-track recording was invented. Like, a drummer plays their part while recording their track. Then the bassist comes in, records their part. Or maybe two people record their parts at the same time, but on different tracks, then a third person comes in and plays their part. Later maybe the guitarist comes in and plays their solo *along with* their rhythm part that they've already recorded... Or a metal band plays a concert along with a pre-recorded *orchestra* playing over the PA The only way a live instrument is going to sound out of place being played alongside pre-recorded tracks, is if there is a technical issue, or if the sound people don't know what they are doing, or if the person playing live makes mistakes that stand out. Technically, it would be (or at least SHOULD be) *easier* to play live along with something that is pre-recorded, because *pre-recorded music is the same every time*. As in, pre-recorded stuff is measurably predictable. Whereas, when you have 3 or more LIVE musicians playing up on the stage, they are always having to make sure and stay in time with each other, stay in key with each other, constantly having to compensate for each other if one or more of them makes a mistake (in other words, you change what you are just about to play, in order to make it sound like what somebody else just played wrong, wasn't wrong lol that's the goal anyway ;P), and if the lead singer suddenly decides to do an unplanned PSA or something in the middle of a song, live players have to do what they can to incorporate that into the music to make it sound as if it was *supposed* to be that way. Pre-recorded tracks are used *all the time* in concerts. But the kind of "backing tracks" being talked about here, are tracks that are actually playing *your* part, with the implication being that you aren't playing-along with the track but, rather, aren't really playing *at all*. Anyway, on the *technical* side of things, if you play a guitar live, along with a pre-recorded bass track, it's all just signals being mixed at the board then put out through the PA. And the PA doesn't care whether it's a person with a guitar at the other end of that signal, or a pre-recorded track.

Not a fan of Motley Crue, but I saw John 5 with Rob Zombie when he was touring with Marilyn Manson a few years ago and he is unquestionably an awesome guitarist. That being said, who cares if he were to use backing tracks? What of it? As long as it's not done in a fraudulent manner, that is all that matters. If he were to mime his playing to a track, that would be fraudulent, but great guitarists make use of loop pedals all the time so they can layer parts over each other in a live setting without the need for a second guitarist. As a guitarist, I respect the skill of being able to record loops live. I can't even do that. If I want to layer something, I have the parts I'm not playing live already saved on an SD card in my loop pedal. Already got too many pedals and vocals to worry about without also having to worry about getting a part exactly right and hitting the pedal at the exact right moments to make it sound right and in time. Backing tracks are not necessarily a bad thing. Just don't use them to trick your audience.

No video of Tommy. There’s a video where you can hear the click/count off via a sampled hi hat. That’s not a backing track, that’s a click/metronome to keep songs, lighting and video in sync. Nikki… the main riff to the songs are doubled via one backing track and him live. If you know how to play bass and/or guitar, then you know you don’t need two hands to play his lines. Open tuning with open chords. Vince… backing vocal tracks and some high note tracks, and live. You can’t fake being that bad. Mick… backing track for main riff of songs and some rhythm tracks during certain solos. Yes, Mick used tracks too. There’s video of him getting knocked down at a show and his guitar keeps playing perfectly. And as a whole… all backing vocals are backing tracks along with some samples like sirens, whistle, screams on Wildside and of course “In the Beginning” was always a backing track. The two tracks that get me are… the crowd singing along. That is on a track. Along with the crowd cheering. Also a track. Bands use crowd backing tracks to make the audience cheer louder and to help make the show seem more exciting. All of the above is sad, but true. Peace out

John 5 is one of the best guitar players alive, and he’s a serious class act. I think of the movie Crossroads, where Ralph Machio has to play against Steve Vai for his soul. If you go to hell, and you have to play against John 5 for your soul, just drop your guitar, and get used to the heat. 👹🔥

One of the best in the business schooling those that don't know. Pure class Why would somebody who appreciates his instrument so much and the art form play to a backing track.

Another case of clueless people on the internet who "mastered" Guitar Hero and think they're the guitar "authority" 😂

If John is on backing tracks the world is a simulation. This guy is one of the best guitarists out there.

A true professional will make it look easy every time. There are technically savvy players and then there are talented musicians with ingrained ability which they have refined themselves over the years. Often classically trained, or simply naturally adept to play (in-tune) by ear, John 5 is the genuine article.

John 5 love him or hate him, he is one of the most fluid musicians ever. This makes him appear to do great things without trying thus everything looks easy.

Motley Crue songs are preschool level for J5. He don’t need backing tracks unlike the other 3 posers

John 5 can play any crue song in his sleep on a Hello Kitty guitar.

Crue riffs are likely fairly simplistic for him and alt tunings can do part of the work for performance too for chords. Saw Stones last week and they used this a lot for the aging Richards.

Yeah, I couldn't imagine him NOT playing live. Was listening to 2wo tonight

Used to see him around LA. VERY nice person. I’m sure we all know he isn’t on backing tracks but last tour Tommy and Nikki were. It bummed me out but no hate from me. I don’t play stadiums and dont know their reasoning. I hope this tour theyre back to live rockin without that silliness. John was a great pick. 😎💯🎸

I’d like to thank all the children. For inciting yet another epic free and personal John 5 performance. He gets plenty of cred, But nearly enough.

If there is anyone that doesn't need a backtrack it's him. He's so good.
