Outstanding job. That was a lot of work and it turned out beautiful. Perfect time to put a manual reel mower on it for its first couple cuts. 🤞...Caution ....If you do cut the baby grass with it you just might get hooked. 🤔. That peat moss spreader looks like a back saver, spreading Peat Moss by hand was the worst part for me. See you on the next update. 🔥👍🏻

I still have the reel mower I used last fall. I'll probably start cutting it in a few days. No way I'm sticking with a reel though. 🤣 I rented that peat moss spreader from HD for $18 a day. Well worth it. 👊🏼

I think if you didn't need to grade, the spring seeding went well. Some thoughts. I've used peat moss in the past but I've changed to using a dethatcher. I spread the seed then use the dethatcher/slit seeder. I think it gives me good soil contact and saves the cost of the peat moss and needing to roll it in. In 1/2 acre the peat moss $ really added up. I use Scotts starter w Meso for weed control, usually 2 apps 30 days apart.
@PacificNorthwestLawns2 жыл бұрын
Actually the whole point of the spring renovation was to kill of the incredible amount of Poa Trivialis I had. Best time to do that is in the early spring. The grade work I decided to do since the entire yard was dead anyway. I'm not a fan of Mesotrione, never will be. It's proven itself to me time after time that it doesn't work all that well.
@jcs17582 жыл бұрын
I agree on killing Triv in the spring. The meso does work in weeds but I have to agree it has a short effective window and for the 2 poas it's useless

Mixed it in the backpack sprayer. I don't recommend doing that in a hose end sprayer though.

Hi! We just moved in to a new house with a pretty good size yard but it hasn't been dethatched, weeded and leveled for like 2 years. We used Spectracide on the dandelions but it didn't seem to work. Should we just go and rip the entire lawn up or there's hope yet? I was planning on skinning the part where the dandelions are, pull the roots out then level with top soil, which I have already ordered and delivered. I also just ordered Sun Joe dethatcher. We were initially planning on just leveling it out, overseed etc. But looking at your lawn, now I'm conflicted. Help. 😅 Located here in Pierce County, Wa.
@PacificNorthwestLawns3 жыл бұрын
I personally do not recommend doing any of that right now. I did this renovation in the spring for one very specific reason and that was to kill Poa Trivialis while it's actively growing. You'll be far better off doing that stuff including the dethatching in the fall. Right around Sept 1 as the soil temperatures drop back down to 70*. Dethatching now going into summer, or top dressing and seeding going into summer is setting yourself up for disappointment. Cool season grasses can't handle that kind of stress in the summer heat.
@PacificNorthwestLawns3 жыл бұрын
Also the spectracide should have worked on the dandelions if you bought one with 2-4-D in it. I'm assuming you used a liquid and not a granular. If it didn't work I'll bet you did some step wrong or missed a step. Be sure to read the label. Dandelions are literally the easiest weed to kill.
@appledcn3 жыл бұрын
@@PacificNorthwestLawns the dandelions are slowly dying now. Probably because temp dropped to around mid 40s low 50s in the last 3 days after we sprayed. Label said between 45 to 85 is best. Then rain. Of course rain. 😂 how about we just level the divots from the dandelions?
@PacificNorthwestLawns3 жыл бұрын
@@appledcn you could do that, sure.

What's your plan moving forward sticking to an all liquid plan or a combination of both liquid and granular?

The front yard has always been a combination of both and will continue that way. It's just to great of a combination to ignore. 😎
