It’s really easy to say you’re not going to give your kids the means to see pornography when you don’t have any or they’re still babies. My daughter is 11 and she has her own phone but is not allowed on social media and certain websites and apps are blocked. It seriously affected my life and the life of my little sister. I still struggle with my addiction and my little sister continues to have nightmares and insecurity issues and she is only 14 and has special needs. My mother made the same argument, and she completely neglected her responsibility. As a child of this, don't make the same mistakes. They may see the porn outside of home but if you set strong moral values, it will pass down to them. I felt the most protected when my mother didn't buy me a phone.

I have a son with Autism. He was shown porn at school when he was 8. He started accessing porn after finding out how to get access from home before we even realized he knew what sex was. We found out and locked all computers, phones and iPads...but because he has autism, it became an OCD thing. For the next 15 years…he will pick up every phone anywere, sneak onto teachers' computers, private laptops, and Ipads. He would find old phones that no one used anymore, hook them up to wifi and access them anywhere and everywhere he can! We didn't know our TV had access to the internet…he found it. Our VCR…he found it. It is almost impossible to keep a child from porn if they have an addiction! He is now 21, and he can't have access to any computer/phone/TV/Blueray/KZbin, or anything with the internet AT ALL! So now, he is missing out on so many things computers offer, because he doesn't have the ability to not access porn because it is way too easy for kids to find porn!

I'm so sick of people saying, "it's up to the parents to protect their kids." By this logic, a person should be able to sell a 12-year-old alcohol and say, "well the parents shouldn't have let their kid roam around a liquor store." You have no idea how the kid got there. Maybe the parents just lost track of the kid for a split second, or maybe the parents actually are neglectful and don't care what their child does, but that is beside the point. We have decided as a society that we need to have measures put in place to ensure the wellbeing of our children because we know that at that age people are unable to make sound judgments and decisions. We already do this with alcohol and cigarettes, there is no reason why we shouldn't do this with porn.

To the lady saying that it’s solely parents’ responsibility to insulate kids from porn, like porn creators have no accountability - it takes a village. Parents can only do so much without becoming overprotective. So a parent agrees to give their child a phone exclusively for calling and texting, or no cell phone at all. That will not guarantee that the child won’t see porn on someone else’s phone or tablet. We can only control so much. Kids have friends. Friends have parents who may be less responsive, etc.,. Porn is also not the same as movies that are not age appropriate. Many R-rated movies are merely not appropriate for teenagers without parental supervision. A 13 year old might watch Schindler’s List with their parents for a school history project, and have a talk about the reason for the historically accurate content that we all should find disturbing. You just can’t do that with porn.

Major part of consuming porn is not only the visual aspect of seeing graphic immoral stuff on the screen. I'd argue that the biggest negative factor is the act of masturbating, it'll mess up your dopamine levels. You'll become a junkie. This, in practice, can and eventually will mess up your life. With regards to age ratings in general - The Pacific, a great WWII miniseries, features a couple of sex scenes. It's obviously very different from porn. This show also features extreme violence and gore, because it tells the story based on true events without shying away from viewing it like it was. If I had to choose, I'd expose this miniseries to young kids much rather than porn, simply because at least it would teach many things and it wouldn't mess up their dopamine receptors and how they view women and sex.

If you make a gun, will God hold you responsible if it kills someone else? Probably not...right? It's just such a silly disposition people have against porn.
