Oh I can explain the Vivian thing! You see in the original 2004 Japanese version Vivian is trans and this is something that was in every version except the English and German version. I also find it so funny when they come after Vivian like this because they just call themselves out so hard when they insist that she isn’t trans.

Was Vivian actually trans though? With how much the trans "allies" make similar claims, it has become _extremely_ questionable. If this had been said back in 2019 then I'd believe it, but that whole "woke" movement aggressively pushing for everything to fit their agenda has really put me off accepting any such statement without verifiable proof and a statement from the original creator. There have been far too many times where a character is proclaimed as trans by the alphabet group (what are they even called now, it keeps changing) only for word to get back to the creator and it turn out that it was really just a tomboy, femboy, or crossdresser.

@@GremlinSciences Eh To be honest from what I've seen of the original stuff, it could've gone either way on whether she was or not because while some text refers to Vivian as a girl some also paints her as crossdressing. I can see the more recent translation as just picking a side of the fence to fall into so that it's settled for sure whether Vivian is or isn't. Because now even the Japanese text is more clear that she's presenting as a girl.

You do realize that oftentimes "inclusive" changes are actually erasing inclusivity, right? If Vivian actually is originally written as trans then so be it, we don't like the game any less, but if Vivian is something else in the original and has been twisted into being trans then we aren't going to support those localizations. If Vivian has been twisted into being trans in the remake when the character wasn't supposed to be, we'll still like the original game, but we're also just going to hate this woke BS even more for ruining the character.

To all those people, that comment either rather hurtful, or outright hate posts, if you don't like something, that you see, on ANY social media, just scroll by, or click off, and don't engage. Ya know what I always thought AI art would be great for? Drawing backgrounds. Like, have the machine spit out 200 images of a haunted forest or whatever, pick out a handful that are close enough to what the director wants, then pass the images over to an artist to make changes and finalize the piece.

I'd just like to point out that just because Nintendo didn't change anything from the original game, that doesn't mean the localization team isn't twisting the details. There is an established history of localization turning tomboy, femboys, crossdressers, and even lesbian/gay/queer characters into trans characters and then gaslighting the original creator into thinking that character trait is actually considered trans, which makes any such claims _extremely_ hard to believe. Nothing I've seen as "proof" from the Japanese version eliminates the possibility that Vivian is just a femboy or crossdresser.

The Vivian thing is that in the original game the wording in Japanese wasn't the best, making it hard to if she was trans, crossdressing, or just a girl (this last one was least likely, but possible to get thanks to poor phrasing). They choose the last one when translating deliberately the first go round, but with this second chance the wording was tightened up and clarified, she Trans, end of story.

I've always hated the "chubby = unhealthy" argument because of how many variables there are to it. What matters more than how much fat is where said fat is stored on the body. Fat usually becomes a problem when it surrounds itself around your organs. It's entirely possible for some people to be a slightly overweight while having all of their vitals be fine. By that point, genetics can make it so that you store fat easier, but in less obstructive locations. If anyone has more info on this that I missed or have gotten wrong, please feel free to add.

Been a fan of TTYD for literal decades at this point, and watching people get upset about Vivian is just funny to me. The remake just *fixed* the original translation. Sure, a really pedantic contrarian could argue that the text never said she was trans back in 2004, and they would be technically correct because that wasn't how people phrased that concept in 2004. I understand why some people reacted to the change like this, there have been some recent, serious issues with localizers deciding they want to censor and change Japanese media. But this is not one of those cases, this is something that has been in the *deep lore* for years.

The irony of AI bros being mad about people protecting their art with software like Nightshade and Glaze is that they're literally telling on themselves. They're basically saying that, yeah, they're deliberately taking the work of others who are explicitly _not giving permission_ for their work to be used in generative AI datasets, and expecting other people to share their anger for not being able to... y'know, commit _art theft?_ I'd love to be able to understand just what happened in their life to make them think the way they do.

The Vivian non-troversy is fukken WILD because regardless of the nuance between being trans or an otokonoko the bottom line is that she uses feminine pronouns, and the villains bully her over that. Goombella's "UM ACKSHUALLY" Tattle is, at best, a piece of trivia that ultimately doesn't matter. The heroes do not care about the circumstances of her identity. She's just a girl, in every version of every script, the end. This conversation has been going on for TWENTY YEARS. Also, and I REALLY hate to get this fukken gender essentialist over a fictional character, but how exactly do you objectively define a man when looking at a shadow made manifest with no visible or implied sex organs, primary or secondary? Like. She doesn't even have legs. This is like arguing that a Boo can have an undeniable objective gender when they're literally just ghosts.
