These videos are pure gold!!!! I was having heart problems, afib and stuff, and tested with high cholesterol. They were going to put me on statins. I watched What the Health on Netflix, and after seeing in particular Dr. Kahn the cardiologist, I immediately went on a whole food plant based diet. I had my blood tested THREE WEEKS later and my cholesterol was well within safe levels. THREE WEEKS!!!! The doctor wasn't even interested in what I did. I told him about my diet. He just said, well, whatever you're doing, just keep walking. What an idiot!!! I fired him and found a new primary care doctor. Food is the absolute foundation for health, I see that so clearly now. I've lost 85 lbs since then.

I think the reason is many doctors don't know, and some feel that if it wasn't taught in medical school, it isn't valid. I think that view is changing with younger doctors coming and the older ones retiring. Just my opinion, I am 73.

As crazy as this sounds MDs aren't taught nutrition in medical school. The docs who know nutrition do so because they were interested and studied it on their own.

My dad at 54 had a massive heart attack in 1983 as he smoked, drank beer, ate candy and ate poorly for decades. He gave up that lifestyle and ditched everything, ate beans and brown rice and veggies and fruits, walked and he lived 3 mos shy of 90! My cardiologist said proof that changing your lifestyle and diet works!!❤

As a long time subject (lab rat) in (25+ studies) at a medical school/VA vascular research lab I have been very impressed with the excellent nutritional education levels of the PhD pre and post doctoral students. What floors me is the near ignorance of many MD's when it comes to nutrition. I have heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. If you know what I'm saying you are in my boat, up to a point. I have never been diabetic, I always have great lipid numbers. Because of my "hobby" I have had every test known to be relevant including a very recent heart catherization because I have pulmonary hypertension and liver complications, but still great lab results. Decent cath results. Calcium score 0. I should be very, very healthy but am not because of a terrible sweet tooth. I am fat. Probably the only reason I have such great results is because this doc is RIGHT! I tend to be vegetarian and love things like beans and apples and all things from the garden and orchard. They have saved me so far and I'm 80. Eat your apples and beans!

I’m not familiar with your various medical conditions, but I had a terrible sweet tooth all my life. Recently I had a coughing virus for 3 weeks and was mostly housebound. I only had sugar-free applesauce available. 3 weeks abstinence was all it took to lose a life-long sweet tooth. No more cravings. I wish it happened sooner. I feel like a different person. Sugar is lethal. Good luck 🍀

I had my gallbladder removed 12 months ago. I’m having plenty of stomach problems. I had full battery of tests. I have GERD, diverticulosis in four main parts of my intestine. I have fatty liver disease too. I’ve been watching these videos to educate myself about how to eat. So far, so good! I am gluten intolerant, dairy intolerant and I’m reactive to foods like broccoli and cabbage. But I’m learning to add a little fiber one day at a time and I’m sticking to raw and fresh veggies and fruits. I also took myself off of added sugar. I don’t eat processed foods anymore. Only nice grains, fruits and vegetables, eggs and a little meat and fish. I’m losing weight and feeling better!

There is also a chemical reaction that takes place when we chop allium vegetables (onions, garlic, shallots, leeks). Those should also stand before being heating. Another option with cruciferous vegetables is to add some raw ones to the same meal like coleslaw, broccoli sprouts or mustard seed.

Im about to turn 50 now, in menopause and have gained 50 pounds in the past 5 years😢 Now my cholesterol was bad and my lipoprotein little A was high and the heart doctor told me it was my genetics and if I only ate salad it wouldn’t change because of the blood test he did. That was hard to hear. Im on a statin now😢 Im trying to learn more and hopefully by incorporating these foods that the Dr. is discussing into my diet my blood work will get better. God Bless everyone on here. Don’t never stop trying ❤️Christy

I basically have to research it myself how to reduce my cholesterol levels. I think a lot of doctors don't know how to reduce a patience's illness other than giving them pills. Luckily I stumble onto this site and I think you said all the good things that I need to do for myself. I would love for you to make a video about how to reverse sarcopenia. I lost a lot of muscle from Covid and am very slowly gaining it back. I do resistance training and HIIT along with Yoga, and am a clinical exercise physiologist, so I have exercise down. There is a lot of conflicting information about nutrition, however. Many scientists say to increase quality protein, which I have done, and I supplement with leucine occasionally. I do have lactose and gluten intolerance, and most likely histamine intolerance. I can't tolerate very much alcohol at all, so when we go out, the bartender is told to make it a tiny amount. I feel sick the next day if we go out to eat, even being careful . I am now 70 and overall healthy, with nothing out of range in my lab work. I have a very high HDL and always have. I definitely would like to gain back more muscle since my body composition shows I should gain about 10 lbs. of muscle. Five would be great but I seem to be holding at 118 lbs. and am 5'6". I feel like the aging population can use all the help we can get to keep our muscle.

Hi. I’m also a clinical AEP. We get one subject on nutrition and that’s it in our degree. Muscle hypertrophy is a science. Muscle hypertrophy happens as a result of stress on the muscle. Unaccustomed resistance training damages some of the muscle. The muscle is weakened for a few days and then rebuilds the damage and adds a bit more (provided you supply the amino acid building blocks through nutrition). If you just keep doing the same loads or volume you maintain muscle because there is no longer a stress on the muscle requiring further adaptation. If you don’t exercise the muscle at all after the adaptation, the hard earned muscle you added just gets broken down to save metabolic energy. So the key to muscle gain is to work each muscle enough to trigger a stress each time (progressive overload), eat sufficient protein, especially leucine containing protein, spaced every 5 hours if you are just using a quickly absorbed supplement, and then exercise twice a week each muscle so that you do not lose the muscle you gained. Smaller muscles such as deltoids, biceps, triceps and abs can be trained more frequently.

The average person will be overwhelmed with this doc’s data mine. And I’ve yet to hear anything about the effects of exercise. She’s very knowledgeable and no doubt very confident with her competence. But not a teacher, just a data dissemination. I’d recommend she slows down the data dissemination by coming up with a basic strategy that an adult might follow to make significant improvements in their lifestyle and health. She might start by emulating Dr. Kenneth Cooper’s approach. Now there is a teacher who made a difference. Also Nathan Pritikin!

Salad eating tip…..use chopsticks. 100% it’s easier to get a decent mouthful. Ps cut apples up in to small chunks and put them in your salad.

Me too, also I slice apples, add juice of 1/2 lemon, add top with cracked black pepper. Doesn't sound good but it is. I saw it on Jacques Pepin cooking show. Sounds like it wouldn't go together but it does!

Great video, but I disagree on eating the fruits at the beginning. Doing that will greatly increase your sugar and obviously the insuling response, which greatly contributes to metabolic disease

I hope the maker of this video can comment on this: Dr. Neil Barnard has said that "plant stanols" can also help in lowering cholesterol--one can get this in a product called "Benecol," a buttery spread sold in a lot of supermarkets. What is your opinion of this? I bought some (in addition to a plant based diet), but man-o-man is it pricey. Do you happen to know if it really works?
