LUMIX S1 & S1R Touch AE - Spot meter ≠ Focus Point

Let me show you here some tips and tricks about the metering modes of the Lumix S1 series bodies from PANASONIC
One clever function is the Touch AE which allows you to set the metering area somewhere else than the focusing area.
A great feature to perfectly expose your scene and focus precisely on your subject.

Thank you, this was very informative. I assume in most cases if you are not looking to have a shallow depth of field, and you're set to let's f8 plus, you can use the highlight weighted mode, it will have the same effect, am I right ?

Hi, Thanks for your question The highlight weighted mode preserves the highlight in the scene. Nothing to deal with depth of field. If you have any bright source of light in the scene, this mode will expose the picture in order to keep this source not overexposed which can lead to a very dark picture. The spot meter, measures the light at the point of focus and expose the picture according to this location The touch AE spot meter allows you to measure the light as a spot meter (in a very narrow area) but somewhere else than in the point of focus. So yes, if you use this mode and select the area of the brightest light in the scene the result will be the same as if you use highlight weighted mode.

Dear one suggestion,as the screen of the camera is not clear you can connect via tether app and by using one have 1 window for you and another for the lcd

@@fabrizio-6172 Thank you so much. I spent more time at the beginning of my channel on each video, I have to admit but I have less time those last months for me. I tried to make it short and did it quickly following your request that I found relevant. I'm preparing a new one on the Leica SL2 to show all its weakness and why I won't keep and and stay with the Lumix S1R... keep connected ;)
