Been there heard that , like you said it goes by state to state, and it goes by the property owners and management to back you up, when you work out in the sticks you mostly on your own, in the city you have a better response by police, It depends where you are, but the number one thing is to protect yourself and take no chances if it doesn't feel right, so be careful when you come up on a problem or insident, safety first and always..

Florida Statute 810.08 allows any agent of the property owner (including security) to use reasonable force to detain trespassers for a reasonable length of time until law enforcement arrives. Obviously if LE doesn’t show up, you’d have to let them go. But you do have that power according to Florida law.

Brother you nailed it, you are 1000% correct on employees and on police response depend what county and what city you are working, county officers (deputies) i.e. sheriff tend to no show and it many because they are short staff and crazy busy. This is why it super important to have officers take pride in their appearance and in their uniform. ppl who apply will tell everything in the sun but after a certain time frame they change for the worst they get complacent, careless and lazy. I have the same issues with my officers which is why so ppl who join my agency don't make pass 6 months.

One big thing I hate: Companies agreeing to send unarmed guards to ridiculously dangerous sites. Almost all of the most dangerous sites that the company I work for has are unarmed.

The clients themselves don't care because at the end of the day they don't want a armed security officer on the premises a lot of times due to liabilities and then the companies you work for don't care because it's all about having a body to fill the post

NC abolished their constabulary long ago, but what I wouldn’t mind seeing is Constables coming back in the form of private security being allowed the training and becoming private constables. I think allowing companies to send their best to become constables would greatly help the image of private security as well as combat companies like allied who simply want to make a quick buck off of selling a uniformed scarecrow. SC has constables but the issue is that you can’t be a constable and a security guard at the same time, which I think is somewhat weird given that security guards there are effectively deputized through SLED.

I think they need to make and expand some kind of PUBLIC government SECURITY ENFORCEMENT Services Department, for people who don't want to hassle with Private Security and or For Smaller Companies and Businesses and other Entities who genuinely want or Need Security but Can't Afford Private Security will have a Public Funded Option and they can also use that department to provide Protection to Government Properties too, and with the Public Security Officers Being Government Employees they can Easily get better liability Protection and Arrest Powers and Better Training.

In Virginia special conservators of the peace are sworn in by county magistrates. So you have the same legal authority as a police officer of that particular county. Vs armed security only have arrest authority on property they are assigned to.

I agree with you brother but it is what it is. I document everything so if anything happens its on law enforcement. Many years ago i trespassed a guy of property. He came back on property and severely injured his girlfriend that lived on property, ( he didnt luve there). Long story short i documented everything and called PD but they never showed. They got sued for not responding.

the way people look at you and look down on you for doing security. Everything thing from holster sniffer to "wanna be" Thats what I hate. I did it for years, now Im a police officer and i can tell you that as far as im concerened....when I say brother, that includes security too. And by definition, security, alot of the times are the True First responders....they are on the scene first. more often than not.

Personally, I’m in Arizona. Our security officers seem to have a lot more power than it sounds like y’all do in Florida. We have security that works night shift at a quick trip near by me and they make lots of arrests
