I liked Maddie's little rant about being queer means you don't have to give up any part of yourself. I was afraid I'd have to give up all the soft, sweet, nice parts of my personality when I came out as a transman, but no! I didn't have to, because there are men who are soft, sweet, and nice, just like me.

Ok seriously tho start this … like now. We’re selling vintage on depop, selling clay earrings & crochet accessories on Etsy, & starting a Patreon to buy the land. Ladies bust out the coveralls, we’re getting to work and building our cottages and sewing the land. **Hozier’s “work song” plays in the background ⛏**

As a nonbinary person, really like listening to the gender portions of the episodes, and this one really got me thinking about my own relation to masculinity and femininity. And I agree with Maddie that fall really is the best time for gender performance. I think it would be super interesting to have Kate on as a guest to talk with Maddie about gender! It's so interesting, too, to hear Ashley's own relation to gender.

Was really missing Kate at the beginning of this co-host transition, but Maddie is really coming into her own and showing so much of herself - what I’m trying to say is I’m becoming attached 💛 loved the pod, as always. Also- nothing is gayer and more feminine than the moon: leaving space for the other suns to shine, consistent and reliable change, and power over moisture 😂 (literally in oceanography ‘bulge’ is the word used to describe what the moon does to the ocean)

Maddie speaking about how being queer means not giving up any parts of yourself, really stuck with me. When I was first coming to terms with liking girls, all of the other queer people at my school thought I was too feminine and actually just straight and would tease me about it often. I actually ended up giving myself gender dysphoria by trying to present more masc to appease the people around me. Glad that now I’m an adult and nobody around me is holding onto these weird ideas and projecting

Okay but thinking of the engagement thing, you could get engaged, move in together, realise you fucking hate it and then have the whole ring situation, telling family you're no longer engaged, the rent/mortgage AND possibly cancelling wedding things you've booked / started doing. That sounds so much more stressful that getting a month to month or 6 month lease/rental with someone to trial run living together...

Mak you can live in LA and have cottage core lifestyle if you just get a place closer to like highland park/mount washington/more so just explore areas that you don’t see when you’re visiting. There is so much green space when you look for it, you don’t have to be caught up with all the pressure of influencers and fakeness if you don’t want to. I’m a queer woman living a lovely life in LA and it’s totally possible to if you keep yourself humble and don’t just hang out in like west hollywood for example!! I go out and have fun but then I retreat and go to the gym and hike and have a little garden space. Just my two cents!!

I understand Ashley’s point of view with the not moving in until engagement. I had that same mind set too. But then I ended up in a 3 year LDR with someone I’m going to spend the rest of my life with. Moving in, as long at there’s clear boundaries financially, (separate bank accounts and like a household account)then the issue with money tangled up wouldn’t be an issue. Boundaries and promises that are agreed early on prior to the move would help ease process and even make the progression of the relationship more seamless.

49:00 “I reformed my love brain to stop loving people who didn’t love me well” OOF, I felt that one. I haven’t figured out how yet, but I probably should 😂 All around a great ep ❤ Cracked up at the moon thoughts 😂 And the convo about NY vs LA cultures and the pressures to look good in both places was super interesting. Chicago does not have those pressures, and when I first moved here from New York, I was lowkey horrified. Fortunately/unfortunately, I have since adapted.
