Charges the police with a weapon, gets shot. "Couldn't they have just de-escalated?" Nope, if someone with a knife or a bladed weapon gets within a certain range (20'~) there's a good chance they can get too close before you can react. Granted the guy was fat, but still it's not safe for anyone to just allow someone with a weapon to charge that close to you.

How about they shoot him in the leg or the shoulder instead of the chest or the head? I don't think anyone debates that they had the right to shoot him but there is something funny about how incompetent american policemen an be. Gomenasai, my name is Ken-Sama. I’m a 27 year old American Otaku (Anime fan for you gaijins). I draw Anime and Manga on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and playing superior Japanese games. (Disgaea, Final Fantasy, Persona series) I train with my Katana every day, this superior weapon can cut clean through steel because it is folded over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on earth. I earned my sword license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day. I speak Japanese fluently, both Kanji and the Osaka dialect, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about Japanese history and their bushido code, which I follow 100% When I get my Japanese visa, I am moving to Tokyo to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an animator for Studio Ghibli or a game designer! I own several kimonos, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Japan, so I can fit in easier. I bow to my elders and seniors and speak Japanese as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond. Wish me luck in Japan!

My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

People need to stop comparing UK policing to American. Firstly, the threats faced by officers are entirely different. That means that, here in the UK, a single person wielding a machete is about the most serious thing a police force will encounter in a certain area that week - yes, we do have gun crime (despite what Americans think) but that is almost always handled by a specific, rapid response, armed police force - so when a call comes in about a machete man the chances are you'll have any officers in the area dropping everything to respond. Britain is also a FAR smaller country, which means that we can have multiple police forces able to respond to a serious situation relatively quickly. Most of us in the UK have police fairly nearby and even then response times can take a while. America has a far larger population, spread out over a far greater distance, so the chances of having large amounts of officers responding to something so quickly are greatly reduced depending on where you are and if that thing happens to be 'just' a guy with a sword, when there are potentially 5 other nearby incidents of people waving guns around, well .... priorities.
@krombopulos_michael
@krombopulos_michael Ай бұрын
The size thing isn't really that relevant. If you're in a city/suburbs (and most US police work for the city they're in), they're covering a similar area either way. A police incident in Bristol is no more going to pull in officers from Newcastle than pice in Minneapolis are going go get back up from Miami. The guns thing is the main difference.
@etheth888
@etheth888 Ай бұрын
@@krombopulos_michaelabsolutely untrue there are around 708,000 cops in the US while the UK has 171,000. It’s easily understandable that more cops can respond to an incident in the UK considering the US is around 40 times bigger with only 4.14 times the police. Even considering the population the US has 212 cops per 100,000 people while the UK has 258 per 100,000 people.

@no0ns
@no0ns Ай бұрын
Think about this. Medical professionals, bouncers and as you said, pizza drivers very often have to deal with dangerous situations and aggressive individuals. Yet they do not get to take their lives so casually as police do. Because it's a part of the job and part of the risk. Why isn't it that with police? Why do they have less responsibility? Why do they get to end someones life because they "felt they were in danger", but a nurse or hospital security in the same situation doesn't. It's so goddamn stupid.

4:16 There actually is a less lethal take down method that's basically a net. It's called the BolaWrap, it's been adopted by numerous departments. Obviously it's only going to be used if you have more than once officer on scene able to have less than lethal in addition to lethal if things go south. It seems cool though.

@@roymarshall_ I replied to you hours ago and it disappeared for some reason. In regards to your comment, while I generally agree with you, no method will ever be one hundred percent effective. That's why these, along with tasers and bean bags should only be used if you have another officer able to provide a lethal alternative if necessary. Some insight on my perspective. I work on an ambulance in a city with a population of roughly 200,000 people and a metro area of around 1 million, and I run behavioral health and suicide ideation/attempts all the freaking time. Due to the increase of violence inflicted on firefighters and EMS providers, I have to stage while police officers get to the scene first to make sure it's safe enough for me to do my job effectively. Tools like the BolaWraps should absolutely be considered for these situations. People shouldn't be killed for being being crazy or suicidal, and honestly it shouldn't even hurt (pepper spray and tasers hurt like a mofo, and then I have to yank basically two massive fish hooks out from your skin afterwards) as they haven't broken the law. The BolaWrap YT channel actually has a body cam video of it being used to de-escalate a suicide by cop scenario, where they shot it at the guys torso and it bound his arms to his sides, keeping him from swinging a knife as officers closed in. I'd much rather have somebody having a mental break while they're restrained in the back of my truck than having them in hypovolemic shock and intubated because now they have 4 GSW's becuase the officers didn't have more appropriate tools for the job. These things just have the potential to make all of our lives easier. The loud uproar you hear of people shouting ACAB and worthless platitudes like "he was having a mental health crisis!" or "why didn't he shoot the knife out of his hand?" are all sheltered, they've never had any kind of interaction with police and have especially never had any kind of interactions with people who're genuinely crazy. Encountering somebody who is completely detached from reality is a frightening experience and I'm glad cops are there on scene with me.

The problem is that even if some less lethals would work like a beanbag gun, those are like shotguns that cops arent carrying around by default, same with riot shields so that if someone is just a little weird but can be talked down(which might be the majority but it obvi wouldnt be of interest) walking up with multiple larger weapons seemingly to take them down by default, might escalate a situation that can be resolved. + The number of cops thing so often is misunderstood, the military and cops are not interested in a fair fight period they want a fight they will win, they want to plan any physical conflicts such that none of them get hurt with almost 100% certainty, so you need a lot of people on your team to do that.

supreme court case law penn v mimms dictates that during a legal traffic stop an officer has the right to order you out of the vehicle at any time, they can even conduct a pat down for safety. if a cop tells you to get out, get out lol. nothing to gain from that situation, especially if the cars already being towed. a lot of people dont know that theres no gain in resisting, however a lot of people do and resist because they know they're doing something worse than what the initial stop was for. this can spark desperation and if that person has a weapon like a firearm they might feel urged to use it. this is why destiny is completely correct that giving limited chances and not using essentially empty threats it's kinda vital. both for people who are an actual danger and people who are ignorant of the actual law, putting themselves and others in danger with their ignorance. sure is a mystery why nobody wants that job anymore lol
@chronographer
@chronographer Ай бұрын
For completeness, they can also order you back in. If you're in they can order you out, and if you're out they can order you in. If you're in they can order you to stay in, and if you're out they can order you to stay away from the car. The logic is that you're already detained, so being detained in or out of your car is no more or less of a burden, but up to the officer for safety reasons.

People try to use the "he looked crazy" or retarded etc etc, as if thats a reason hes less dangerous or should be dealt with differently. In fact it means theyre eay more dangerous. Within 7-10 feet you dont have that big a didadvantage over a gun with a blade. Also its been "less lethal" or less then lethal for a long time now because you can still die from tazers bean bags rubber bullets etc.
