Story #1: So, Buzz slandered OP to his entire family and the next chick (and possible AP). Then the next chick decides to insult OP to her face with said lie and is shocked - SHOCKED - when OP sets the record straight. OP's mom was wise. It's funny that Buzz was so salty about being ghosted that he decided to slander OP and set up this karma grenade for years down the road. As for the family, they didn't bother to confirm, so screw them. OP has no reason to grant either them or Polly any grace. It's not as though there's been any contact in two decades. Maybe Polly shouldn't have called a complete stranger a "whore" in the first place. LOL! that he was obsessing over OP for decades. BFF sounds evil and thankfully is no longer with us.

Plus, she was under the impression that she helped Buzz recover after his cheating ex "broke his heart" the start of their relationship is probably tainted in her mind now. I'm not saying that Buzz IS cheating on Polly, 20 years is a lot of time for personal grow and changing for the better, but i see why Polly is freaking out and doubting him, a lot of people would consider his lying a red flag too.

In Australia, the majority is letterboxes, even in the city. But I think this is because we do not have doors straight onto the street, most houses have a front lawn/area. There are some exceptions in the inner city, but even our terrace houses have a front fence where the letterbox is.
@somethingmcsomethingface81807 ай бұрын
In the US, the ones in the doors are only in temperate regions where the single family houses are right near the sidwalk and a mail carrier has a walking route. Apartments usually have a set of boxes in the lobby or common area. Rural and suburban homes have mail boxes on posts by the street so the mailman can deposit mail in them without having to exit his car. They even buy right hand drive vehicles for this.

@@asterismos5451 Although they're rare, I've been in a few places that still had the letter slots in the door. The one I recall the most was at a small office that was set in a historic home in a neighborhood that had a walking mail carrier that delivered to the door. Apparently there was a deal where the USPS wanted everyone to get a mailbox at the curbside but there was some ruling for the historic overlay that allowed the slots to still receive mail. Of course, the USPS kept that with the stipulation that if anyone were to move mail service to the road at a mailbox, they couldn't go back to door service. I think the neighbors next door asked if they could close the slot up and have the mailbox on the side of the house but were denied even that.

Letterboxes - In the US, most people in detached homes have a mailbox (on a stick at the end of the drive). Semi-detached and apartment homes may have a cluster of lockboxes outside for mail. Some of the older homes, particularly row houses, have the traditional letterbox (slot in the door). In areas with letterboxes, the postman walks the delivery route. Mailboxes are usually accessed by the postman without getting out of the vehicle. Postal vehicles are frequently right-hand-drive for this purpose.

I had never thought of mailboxes as a strange concept until this video, but hearing “you got them on the end of a stick outside your house” straight up broke my brain 🤣🤔🥴

Story 1: Together 18 years and only now getting married? Not saying anything's wrong with that, but it is a little unusual. Somebody (former bff?) was/is definitely playing games. UPDATE: It seems that bff didn't like anyone who came between him and Buzz. It seems OP leaving really threw Buzz into a deep hole, but at least he seems to have found his way out, unlike bff. But that is/was not OP's problem or responsibility. Polly seems to have some insecurities, but those too are her problems and not OP's.

it wasn't their wedding, just a relative of the groom.

OP mentions Polly as his wife and the wedding was between OP's friend and a distant relative of the groom(that's why she didn't recognise him)

Some places have door slots, most have mail boxes (on poles/bricked), and some still have letter boxes by the front door.

To answer your question, personal mailboxes are exceedingly rare in north America. We used to have them, but they basically stopped being a thing. You now see, what are essentially communal ones. Imagine a box on legs, about 6 feet tall, maybe 3.5 feet wide, about 1.5 feet deep. The box itself is split vertically into three boxes, and each of those is split into locked cubbyholes for each house. So, depending on your street, you could have just one, or a couple of them. It's like, one of those boxes for around.. I'd guess 40 houses?

"You have to help, we're on the verge of eviction!" Oh. No. The neighbors who started a beef immediately on OP moving in, evicted? So. Sad.

Story#1 OP was 18 whdn she started dating a 24yo. The BF lived apart from her and probably cheated a lot. Polly needs to get over the bs from 20 years ago. Polly needs to get over insecurity and learn not to be a trash person who calls women she doesn't know whores. I hope no one bothers OP with this bs.again.

Some places have letter boxes. But usually only in cities, and sometimes only on older single family buildings. New buildings tend to have a bank of PO boxes for all tenants

In reference to the letterbox question- Like a mail slot in the door? My grandparents' house still has one, but I can't think of any others I remember seeing recently. They're not common anymore.
@myroc17 ай бұрын
I've seen a letterbox here in America, but it was rare and I was probably young the last time I saw one. If you live in the city I imagine it's more common and collection boxes are more abundant. I remember as a kid half of our street had mailboxes at the end of the driveway, but the other half had mailboxes bolted directly to the house near the door rather than a gateway into the house itself. The mailman walked right up to our door from his little truck back then. I've been renting apartments for about 16 years and we have letter boxes for outgoing mail and all the mailboxes for our incoming mail are centralized near that (no sticks though lol). Also, something I didn't think about is that it's very convenient for Americans to be able to leave their outgoing mail to be picked up from the same box vs going to the Post Office or collection box. Apparently Mailboxes made it easier since in a lot of America the houses aren't very close together and would take a long time to walk from door to door vs dropping at the curb from a vehicle.

Here in Sweden it depends on where you live, or more like how your place is, regarding if you have a mailbox (usually villas and "stand alone" houses have these), some appartments have a big "box" with mailslots/boxes (1 for each tenant), and some appartment has regular mailslots (the one you're talking about, that's straight in the door). Where my mom and I lived until I was... eeeeehhh 10? Had a mailslot. Grandpa had a mailbox. My current place has a "communal mailbox", since I live in a grouphome for my ASD (but we did use to have the other kind of "mailbox" that I mentioned).

Due to the pony from the pony express, the pony is actually too tall to access the door posts. That's why in America we use a post box at the end of our drive way. It's specifically tall enough for the local post office ponies to access.

I've lived in houses with letterboxes, mailboxes, as well as post office box only. Some places are more strict than others. The mailman hated the letterbox and we had to complain to the postmaster about the guy cramming stuff in and ripping it. My current town is small enough they keep threatening to remove the post office and make us drive 20 minutes to the next nearest one. Any mailboxes in this town are decorative and usually taken over by wasps or spiders.

In Australia, we have mail boxes for mail delivery ( same sort of thing as Uk , red but rectangle with a rounded top), and letter boxes at our house to receive mail

Story 1: while OP isn't the AH, she DID contribute to causing the chaos. Polly was the one to crack the can open, but OP removed the lid, by telling the true version. Of course people are going to want details, from the person who corrected the story. Where else are they going to get it? From the guy who lied to protect his own behind? So yeah, OP is kind of responsible for, in a way, releasing the chaos, but they aren't an AH for it.

Where I live in Ohio we have a mail slot that has a chute next to the side door, so mail doesn't just fall into the house. Mail often gets stuck if there is a lot of it.

Letterboxes used to be more common than they are now. You would find them on home build pre-WWII. Most people with older homes that still have them use a mailbox anyway for convenience.

US Citizen Here, California Specifically Yes there are houses that have Letter Boxes, my great-grandparents home and two of the houses that my Grammie lived in before she moved to her final home. It just depends somewhat on the age of the house and the location it was built. It's common in some parts of San Diego and San Francisco and I would presume it's most common where it would be impossible to have a stand-alone mail box.
