I'm a bit disappointed that Videl didn't get a shoutout in the extravaganza. The long T-shirt look really gets me in the 90s spirit. Especially with the bike shorts underneath. Really gives off the feel of someone who likes to exercise and kick butt. Or Chi-chi. I've always thought Chi-chi's sense of style was pretty underrated. Cheongsams are really pretty. Also her big round earings are just the right level of a bit gaudy, and a bit hot (which the potara earings also fall into). Roshi's also rocking some nice traditional Chinese garb this arc. You love to see it. Also Shin's Kai outfit also deserved a bit of a shoutout. I've always loved the Kai styled clothing. It's so ornate and billowing that it feels both otherworldly while still managing to give off a "royal" flair. Honestly good outfits in the Buu saga all around.

The boys just show up with their big hats and swagger instead of their sweatpants and gis. Granted Krillin does have a different outfit when he shows up than the one he eventually changes into, pretty much everyone else just wears the outfit they show up in. What happened to the style? The Buu arc had some of my favorite outfits now that I think about it. Gohan with the tunic but without helmet or turban, Vegeta's armorless suit, and Krillin's casual look.

The Great Saiyaman's custome looks great. The helmet is great for crime fighting because it protects your head, and the rest of the custome makes him look heroic. In addition, the cape is easily detachable, so he won't have the same problem that Syndrome has in The Incredibles where his cape gets stuck in something causing him to get pulled into something deadly, and his cape, when removed, will not reveal his identity, unlike, for example, Batman's cape which often will force his cowl to be removed completely in order to remove the cape. As for the sunglasses and bandana, those look stupid. But those are only for the tournament, they are not part of the Official Saiyaman Custome™.

Personally, I like the vest Krillin wears before he gets ready for the tournament at 5:12 , it makes him look like a mini version of Han Solo.

I'd agree that the Great Saiyman outfit is best in it's pre-tournament helmet and cape configuration, but I've got sort of a soft spot for post-tournament stripped down gi top over body suit without the additional accessories. To me this is the closest Gohan gets to ever having his own style (well, not counting his original debut outfit). All his other outfits in the series have always been copying someone else, be it Piccolo, Goku, or even Vegeta that one time on Namek. There are still echoes of that here. The body suit, gloves, and boots are all taken from Vegeta's last arc outfit, but that body suit being black help's set it apart from Vegeta's blue. Likewise the gi top can reflect both Goku and Piccolo, but gohan finally gets to have his own distinct color... and it's green which just makes it doubly favorite to me. Dragon Ball Super makes a lot of missteps in its costuming choices, but if we were going to have to wallow in cheap "nostalgia", never bringing back this combination is maybe what bugs me most. I can excuse the tracksuit, it is green at least. What I really can't forgive is the Tournament of Power. He totality should have worn this combination again instead of going back to copying Goku's out fit as in the anime or Piccolo's outfit as in the manga.

Personally I kinda wish he kept the gi at the start of the arc. It's kinda basic but that's what I like about it. It's a gi for a independent martial artist who isn't apart of a school or anything. And in the manga it's green which as you said is a unique color. Although my favorite Gohan gi is the turtle gi with the ma kanji. Really wish he wore it against Buu or in Super/GT

I'm torn on it, personally. On one hand, Gohan doesn't like fighting, so it makes sense that he doesn't really care too much about training when he has free time. On the other hand, the Earth has been in danger so often and Gohan has to be asspulled back to full strength so often that I wish Toriyama would just address the elephant in the room already and have Gohan realize that he can keep in shape AND still be a scholar.

I've always been confused as to why this is "controversial". Up to this point in the series, Gohan has *only* ever fought and trained because he "had to". It wasn't about improving himself and 'following the path of the martial artist' like other characters in this series. Now with things finally at peace and him getting to live a more normal life, I don't see why he would keep up training.

I think my issue with Gohan's look without the rest of the saiyaman Gi is that there's a few too many bodysuits in the series by this point. And Gohan just looks off in it. I actually think the outfit is at its BEST when it's in its current configuration. No Cape, No bandana but still the gi, Belt and Gloves. I honestly wouldn't mind if this was Gohan's "Buu saga" look, with him having sort of his own outfit separate from Piccolo and Goku. Instead we end this arc with him just becoming Goku 2. Even moreso than Goten honestly, and it bugs me.

I think vejitas outfit came of necessity. He was participating in a tournament that doesn’t allow armor. So he didn’t wear his saiyan armor. Simple as that. The lack of sleeves wasn’t necessary, but definitely a good addition to his look. (I kinda wish he wore his pink shirt that would keep changing what it says on the back. TFS.) Especially since Gohans look would eventually be the same as a saiyan outfit without the armor too.

I just need to bring up something that I think is being overlooked. Android 18 wasn't trying to kill Goten and Trunks with the destructo disk, she was trying to reveal that they were 2 people trying to fight as 1 person. It's heavily implied that Android 18 would not have been able to defeat both Goten and Trunks as super saiyans. Android 18 was relieved when Goten and Trunks left after they were disqualified, which does confirm this.

Having to watch this episode, it made me realized, just how very overly angular and simplified a lot of the artwork has become overtime. I guess this is why the Boo Arc would end up being the last arc, Toriyama at this point must have been burned out for having to write this series for nearly 10 years.

Agreed, the writing in the Buu Saga is also by far the worst in the series. New concepts keep being introduced but none of them matter to the story, such as fusion, Super Saiya-jin 3 or even the mystic ritual.

@@leonardoalvarenga7572 Not exactly, I did really enjoyed stuff such as the 7 year time skip, with the Super Saiyaman, The 2 diffrent tornaments, The stuff related to Majin Boo and Mister Satan. The development that Vegeta had gotten, The Look of SS3 was really cool. (Infact I would say it's my favorite just based on desine alone.) And I really like the final battle. to were Goku, Vegeta, Mr. Satan and The Good Majin Boo, to go up aganst the evil Kid Boo and the genki dama that was used to finish him off, and it was thanks to Goku's friends and the people on earth that he got the energy needed to do it. If anything I would say I like this arc more than the Freeza or Cell arcs just from this stuff alone. though yeah it isn't perfect since it did felt like Toriyama didn't really know what story he wanted to tell.

If old interviews are to be believed, Toriyama actually went into the Buu arc knowing it would be his last story. And because I HIGHLY doubt he knew the story would go on for two more years when he started (the beginning of the Buu arc already shows a clear lack of direction), you could argue he was already "burnt out" after eight years, and yet kept pushing more and more past that already tired state for two additional years... it's really no wonder the art ended up how it did.

Regardless of how many ideas pinballing around actually matter in the final battle, all the ideas brought up in the Buu saga are some of the most interesting and iconic ideas to come out of dragonball. Fusion is legitimately one of my favorite concepts (and it's kind of a shame the only people we ever really see fuse are Goku and Vegeta or their sons)

I absolutely love the pairing of No. 18 with Mr. Satan; it's a big part of the reason why I like Dragon Ball Z movie 11 so much (aside from Goten and Trunks getting narrative play to make them the main characters). Granted, it's a fairly one-note gag, with No. 18 constantly extorting money from Mr. Satan, so I guess it's good that it never outstayed its welcome. All the same, it cracks me up, and I love what little we get of it.

He basically has. Pretty much every manga series he's done since DB has been comedy or light adventure with comedy, and they've all ended in under two volumes. He's never done any real writing for Super unless you count scripting the Broly movie. He cranks out some broad storylines and character designs and tosses them to Toyotarou.

Oh I am quite the Vegeta fan and I'm... so looking forward to seeing you tear Majin Vegeta to pieces and send those remains to HFIL. Also I just have to say... you are quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite KZbinrs. I came to check out Dragon Ball Dissection initially and now I'm staying for everything else because I absolutely LOVE how you analyze media. It's intelligent, entertaining, sometimes funny and it gets my brain thinking about things I never thought about before.

I believe Goku doesn’t lecture Vegeta because he learned his lesson when sparing Frieza. Since then, he had no problem killing Cell and every villain thereafter.

Every time I revisit the Boo arc I wish more and more that we just stuck to more of this tournament stuff and comedy oriented stuff. Also can't wait for your take on Majin Vegeta I know for me he ruined Vegeta's character and made him my least favorite character in all of DB.

Vegeta was always meant to be a character obsessed with nothing else but Goku surpassing him so Toriyama directed the rest of the franchise around it because he’s second strongest

I think the main reason vegeta is not wearing armor is because the tournament probably doesn't allow body protection. So if vegeta wanted to enter he probably just had to take it off. That's how I see since besides gt vegeta goes back to his armor immediately afterwords in stuff like return of son goku and friends
