It's because of this man and others like him that presented logical evidence and debates that I no longer believe in the god delusion it's so freeing I wanna cry right now. I was so lost so bound by religion and had so much fear that I was so depressed and I would call out to god to help and change me and I got no answers. The modern world has less room for outdated bronze age ideas proven over centuries of power struggles not to work for everyone. Many years ago I knew I was playing a memorized role like an actor singing church songs every week for the purpose of impressing other well dressed families. That's how a child thinks. I still like my occasional cartoon thinking that breaks the laws of nature. I'm glad these three gentlemen are so busy drawing such large crowds. This is GREAT !!

I'm glad we got the ACTUAL version of Babel in this story, and not the traditional one. Because it's honestly the worst thing God does in the Bible. All the other times, he at least has the decency to claim that the people he are killing are wicked (or related to the wicked). But in the Tower of Babel, the only thing the humans are guilty of is co-operating too much, and being capable of achieving anything. No attempt to claim they're evil, or prideful or defying his will. In fact, by declaring their co-operation and unity, he all but says they're being as good as they could possibly be. And yet God feels the need to put a stop to that. Of all the horrible things Yahweh does in the Bible or Quran, I really think this one is worst. Torture the 'guilty' for eternity? At least they commited some crime, however small. But the Tower of Babel is sheer tyranny. "They are great and unified and are challenging my power" is all God needs to justify his actions, not only to himself, but to Moses and all of mankind. God puts on a show of punishing the wicked, but if we take the Bible as a true story, it turns out that when God can't think of any other excuse, when he can't accuse humans of any wickedness, he just throws aside the guise of 'justice' and is just plain evil.
@TagSpamCop5 жыл бұрын
What the people being tortured for eternity are guilty of is only one thing: not believing or following this "god" character. That is the one and only criteria for "hell". Matthew 12:31-32: "Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come." That is, the only unforgivable thing - not genocide, not rape, not murder, not destruction of all kinds - is not feeding this deity's narcissism. This is reflected throughout the entire bible. At every turn, people are being killed or ruined simply because "god" doesn't like them. Even Jesus, "meek and mild" (Hitch), condemned entire cities to damnation for lacking interest in his traveling show, and regarded non-Jews as "dogs". Literally, the only thing you need to do to get into Celestial North Korea (aka "heaven") is to believe in this character. It doesn't matter how atrocious you are, how many people you've killed, how immorally you've behaved, you'll get into the VIP lounge if you just believed. Morality and salvation are completely independent categories. Absolutely unrelated. These people in hell are not "wicked." They're just non-believers. Christians can get as many clean slates as they want. This is the problem with their claims of Christian/religious morality - there are no consequences. They're a believer, so anything goes. Do anything you want, get unlimited "Get Out of Jail Free" cards. This is why I don't accept "how can you be moral without god?" - the better question is "how is it even possible to be moral _with_ god?"

Titian Dragomir Pretty sure that's your problem. Technical problems are omnipresent; on a given week on The Atheist Experience, using the same equipment as ever, there's about a 30% chance of some kind of issue. I understand that your standards for audio fidelity are high, but this is fine for most people so I wouldn't use that as an excuse for not sharing it. That was briliant. No theist would be able to clinch to his faith after listening to this without presupposition. Thanks

So... God learned to plan from Tzeentch. Have multiple plans that all work against each other so that if your plan is defeated you can claim victory via another plan.

One of your best speeches yet Matt. If people don't get it after that, then there is no hope for them.That is exactly how the bible reads. Great job. Stay strong in your fight against idiocy.

Brilliant, hilarious, accurate, on point; and at the same time sad, horrific, pathetic, ridiculous and shameful. Nicely done, Matt - way to go!
@MrCallidus5 жыл бұрын
Fatuous, unintellectual, and cringe-worthy. The poor audience desperately tried to keep up the laughter, bless them, but it was hollow by the end. Take one look at Matt's face and you just know that a clever word will never issue forth from it.

Chad Ellis Dillahunty engaged me in emails regarding what atheism is and how to describe an atheist and he challenged me to back up my argument that he was wrong and when he did, even after previously sharing multiple emails.... he ran off like a scared chicken.

LuthAMF And he knows it? What do you mean by that? Belief in Allah is very much a threat.. arguably more so than even Christianity. But it’s Christianity that is most applicable to the western audience he targets.

@LuthAMF Or it's because he was raised fundementalist Christian and knows Christian scripture and history better than 99% of Bible scholars. You play to your strengths. I can recite a bunch of WW1 history but if I start talking about the Cold War I'd just be talking out of my ass.
