Great Video! I just turned 49 and live in Central Texas, so shorts are a must have this time of year - if not year round! I like your pairings and had been trying to break from my normal olive green or khaki colored shorts and had been looking at red. Watching your video made up my mind to get them. The way you style your shorts is awesome. I typically stick to flat-front linen shorts that come about 2 inches above my knees in either pink, white, powdered blue, navy, khaki, or gingham printed. The only time I go shorter is when I'm playing tennis or running. I almost always wear a short sleeved, fitted Ralph Lauren polo shirt and I will pop the collar at times. I typically always wear sockless sneakers with my shorts. I either wear white Nike Air Force 1s, white Adidas Stan Smiths with green trim, or retro Reebok, Adidas, or Nike running shoes. I wore flip-flops once this summer and all I got were comments about how white my feet are in comparison with my legs. I also tried wearing boat shoes once or twice as well. I really couldn't spend much more than 20 minutes in either flip-flops or boat shoes and definitely didn't feel fashionable wearing flip-flops. When it comes to summer footwear, I'm sneakers all the way.

Nice video. I wear shorts mostly in the spring, summer and early autumn. This was right down my alley. Prefer the more slim fit shorts the best. Although distressed shorts are not necessarily my thing, I think you pulled it off nicely. You're proving that men over 40 can still experiment with clothing, and step out of our comfort zones every now and then and find something new that actually works for us. Part of wearing clothes you like, is feeling confident in what your wearing, and if you confident, it will show and tell others you comfortable in your own style. Thanks.

Love the color combinations and I really like that last outfit with the peach colored shorts and loafers. I’ve always been one to stick to blues, grays, browns/tan colors so the peach would definitely be stepping outside my typical range. I have to say I’m not a jean shorts kind of guy. Definitely not into the ripped and frayed jean look either. But it’s all about individual style and how you wear it. Great segment and love your dog hanging out while you pose. Good stuff as always. Nice look book.What are the inseams of these shorts? I generally wear a nine inch inseam. These all look longer. The green shorts rule however.. They fit you very well. I'm kind of old school though and never was a fan of the cut off look. I would probably cuff or hem them and avoid the frayed look. Bosco is so cute hanging out and watching.

I love the length of these shorts on you. how do you find them in the shorter lengths? I’m 5’9” (or so! Lol!!) and have a hard time finding shorts in the 8-9 inch inseam range... sadly, most of the stuff I find is way to long for this look. Thanks for a great video.

Denim shorts makes us feel young so I think it's okay to wear them specially if you have a 6 pack, just wear what makes you happy & DON'T mind so much what others think about it. Those people can't help you in any way or care about you so who cares about what they think. Wear what's comfy & make you feel good. ✌

I think the button down shirts look better tucked into the shorts, unless wearing an Untuckit type that doesn't hang too low. Also the shorts that were cut off pants look better rolled up than hanging down.

I suppose I tuck in about 50% of the time overall. Wearing shorts though, it’s a pretty casual look to start with, so untucked generally looks a little more cohesive and more relaxed.

Thanks for your comment Andrew. They are a little snug, but they don’t feel as tight as they look. They’re super stretchy and very thin, so they don’t feel tight or constructive whatsoever. In fact, they feel even more comfortable than some of the looser shorts. Kind of funny how that works out.

Are your preconceptions about "dressing your age" driving what you perceive as odd? In my opinion it can be done and age has nothing to do with it as long as it's done without getting ridiculous. I thought he pulled that look off well and part of remaning young and feeling young is not dressing like an old man. Of course you can't have a beer belly and pull it off so your body type is clearly a main factor in pulling the look off.

I think it's a balancing act. I do think physique has a lot to do with it and also not getting too crazy. For example, if I wore a Star Wars t-shirt and flip-flops with the ripped denim shorts, it wouldn't look right. But since I wore a button down collar shirt, it makes it more appropriate.. at least in my opinion. I've mentioned before that I do walk the line of what I consider 'age-appropriate' and I'm not afraid to try stuff. Thank you both for your comments!

The main problem I have with shorts is that the leg openings are too wide. I’m on the skinny side so the obvious solution is better tailoring. I love wearing shorts in Spring, Summer, and early Fall. I tried dress shoes with shorts which is kind of a New York fashion thing, (Thom Browne) but I can now see it really just doesn’t look good. I also like the idea of pairing lighter jackets with shorts, but not the matching “short suit.”

50 year old man wearing distressed denim shorts? What's the matter with you? Dress your age. 🙄😂. Kidding of course. Love all the looks. I picked up that pineapple print shirt from Express you styled a month or so ago. Put it on shoptagr and it alerted me to it being sold for $19.99 instead of $59.99. I'm all over that 😀. I just hope the color is what I saw on the screen and the small fits well. Previous print shirts I have purchased I have sized down to nail the fit. Hope I don't have to return it. Looking stylish in shorts can be difficult without nailing the fit of the shorts and shirt. Nice lookbook here. You hit some dressier styles and some more casual styles. 👍

That's one of the many reasons not to wear shorts. No hair? "You shaving?" Got hair? "Ew you so hairy." Face it, men's legs are ugly, shorts kill your proportions, and they aren't cooler than lightweight cotton. In fact, in direct sunlight they're hotter.

@@TheBigMclargehuge Pants can be cooler in some situations, as long sleeves kept down also provide protection from scorching rays. However, if you have gorgeous legs, many of us would love ro catch a glimpse, shaved or not! 😉

I have thin legs as well so always a bit conscious when wearing dress shorts and larger sneakers/casual shoes. Always interested in how to carry off this look. Thanks John.
