When you said not to have my sesamoid taken out, I really needed to hear that. This video gave me so much hope that I could actually recover from this. 4 months out from medial sesamoid fracture and still in pain, I got more practical recovery advice from this video than months of appointments with a surgeon, podiatrist, and physio. 😭

three years after the initial injury (and several doctors and radiologists saying it was just gout), a foot surgeon got new xrays and confirmed that my fibular sesamoid is in pieces. Great to have a diagnosis, but I wish they also would have given me info like this! This video was super informative about the whole thing as well as contributing factors to make pain worse/better, and ideas to manage really well. Thank you!

I have super high arches, and as a fitness pro for 40 years, it's more of a chronic issue than acute. My podiatrist can't determine if I have a fracture or not, although my other foot is not bipartite like the injured foot appears to be (or fractured) in xray. I'm all over your taping technique! thank you!

Hi your videos are so educational. This one confirms all that my pedorthist and chiropractor/sports rehabilitation have taught me. What I appreciated the most, was the section referring to shoes and orthotics. A light bulb finally went on in my brain 😂 . If my feet were healthy then information pertaining to barefoot would be awesome. You are a Doctor with years of study, surgery, research and thousands of patients helped, therefore (for me 😊) the science behind the recommendations in your videos is sound. Thank you for taking the time to make and share your videos.

Thank you SO MUCH. I’ve had gradually improving (very slowly) sesamoid pain since February & got an inconclusive MRI in March & have been in a boot pretty much constantly from March til a couple weeks ago. Steroid shot helped immensely but I’ve been in the “You should be fine any day now” stage with my podiatrist for too long & my toe is so stiff now & I wake up with a swollen sesamoid. I needed stretching & footwear ideas & this was so helpful 😅

This was super helpful! Retired ballerina here... and avid lover of stilettos, as well as naturally very high arches... my sesamoids on both of my feet have stress fractures. It seems every few years I make a wrong movement or step annnnd major pain, and I'm either in a cam walking boot or on crutches for a few months while it calms back down to normal life. Question - are the feet stretches good when it is in injury mode and I'm staying off of it?? Or is it better to save that for the maintaining times? Thank you! :) OH - also, which HOKA's were those? Is that a good brand for walking, hiking, etc with this?

Not sure what has led to my sesamoiditis, I think it's a range of things, I use to be a runner, got injured and really never recovered. Started cycling and I definitely put pressure on the ball of my toe when cycling standing up (when climbing hills). I also have arched feet. And my muscles are seriously short from many years now of neglecting stretching and building flexibility. This is a great video, it reminded me that I do need to resume stretching and re-start using the many stretching tools I have. Great video, thank you.

I think I also have a sesamoiditis. But its kind a different. I have an inflammation under my big toe but no pain. Actually there is a pain but kind of a pleasant pain. I push my sesamoid bones against hard objects which results in a big toe crunch which gives me joy. I do not really know how to explain that.

What would be your advice for people with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome? I have really considered this condition as a side effect from chronic turf toe and bunions, plantar fasciitis, patellar maltracking etc. I have had many scans to no real conclusion, even went to a podiatrist who seemed knowledgeable in EDS only to tell me to go fix my knees. It is all a catch 22, feet in major pain along with knees, parts of the body too and unable to do half of what it needs to do to support the lower half and vice versa. Can't fix the knees with painful feet and can't fix the feet without treating the knees. Thank you for sharing this video, really put a visual on where these bones are and how easily ish mine could have damaged itself, its very much possible that it has subluxed at some point. Its a sharp electric pain, unable to lift without a deep bruised heavy sensation, even stretching them upwards gives a deep pain in through that base and almost through and through the whole big toe bone, occasionally the inner side can hurt and lately it's the outer edge of both feet have become quite stiff and painful to my knees

@@MichelleKohlerArt Yes, everything is numb from the hallux valux up through my big toe. I thankfully have not gotten a bunion which my podiatrist said might happen BUT I did develop a really bad ingrown toenail. I can't feel it though, but clipping the nail DOES create a type of uncomfortablness. I believe it DID kinda make my OTHER foot worse because since i can't feel it, I tend to shift my body weight to the other foot alot.

Good Afternoon. I had PF surgery 6 months ago to release my PF. I have been struggling with seamoiditis in the same foot for the about 1 year. They came along together. The doctor believes I was extremely tight with Plantar fasciitis and I modified the way I walked. Either way it is not going away. I was wondering when you do your exercises do you do alongside the taping of the big toe? Some of the stretches look like you might pull on the big toe area.

Well the podiatrist said I had sesamoiditis. But I'm sure I have that and a few other things happening. But it seems like even though I explained what was all going wrong with the foot region. They seemed a bit focused on just the sesamoid region. Now a bit about me I work for UPS as a delivery driver. I'm not sure when the actual injury came about. But we walk everywhere and of course supervisors have to ask if it's work related. Come on I walk anywhere from 8-10 miles a day at a pace of about 4-5 mph and not always on nice flat ground. Plus I live in a cold weather state so we see our fare share of snow and ice so the ground becomes very unstable between melting and refreezing. But needless to say the job itself isn't exactly easy on the body as a whole. Carrying loads and a little bit of a off sided approach so we can see our walk path plus make adjustments to changing conditions isn't always easy while doing such carry. Well I think one thing that didn't help was the fact that we have been short on brown delivery truck's. So we would do rentals from like U-Haul or Penske. And I was in them for a good 3-4 months straight well pretty much 4 days a week. And getting in and out of them 120-170 times a day probably didn't help. Most of this is mainly to the left foot Some of this is noticeable in right foot as well but not this problematic. asterisk **means it happens in both feet** *Sometimes numbness in the heel when taking off boots(footwear)*. Pain outside lower part ankle * Also get a feeling of a toe shift like a dislocation and when this happens it seems that it can only go away by pulling the toes backwards towards the top of the foot. And not sure why this happens but it can happen whenever I can be walking normally not work pace or even swimming.* *Popping or twinge in toes when walking not always the same toes* *Pain in front ball of foot* * Some heel pain* Pain through the arch to the front side of the heel Pain on top middle of foot but towards the arch side Sometimes pain to the outside edge of the front ball Range of motion seems ok except when I go to point my foot downward get pain to the outside back edge of ankle. And it's considerably less than right foot. I can force it with hands when it's relaxed but not with muscles on it's own At it's worse while walking or making deliveries. Was doing a half step from left to right. And pain would trigger throughout the big toe through the arch to the heel and on top of foot. If I walk with normal body mechanics. If I try to avoid pain I walk with my foot pointed Inwards and also lifting my big toes inside my boot. but this then causes like a limp lifting motion to the foot(drag foot) but not on the ground but also eventually causes pain to backside of knee probably from straining to keep foot positioned for less pain. It can get to this point within a few hours of the vigorous (brisk pace) walking for making delivering es. So I got the dancer pads for both feet. But I'm afraid that things may get worse in other regions of the foot. Like that back edge of the outside ankle. But I did get the felt style 1/4" and also a gel style 1/8". I tried the gels during work today since I'm on light duty not a whole lot of walking. More driving than anything and then waiting around for more driving. But I used them directly on the skin of each foot. Had to roll the socks off and on so they would stay in place. But the ones I got are the Kimihome gel. And the felts are the Mars wellness. Trying to get some good insite on these and where they should be placed but also about the other problems I have going on with the foot . Anything would be helpful even certain stretches. I know the rest I've been getting from light duty is helping but I'm afraid that when I get back to work things may flare up again regardless of how long the day may be. I would help once in awhile and do maybe 30 in town residential stops and within them 30 stops things would start to become agitated. So anything would be helpful thanks and hopefully I hear back from you. They consider us professional athletes. After all just about every muscle gets used and abused on a daily basi

Hi I don’t know if u will write back to me but um I have slammed the front of my foot into a wall yesterday afternoon and I did the RICE. On it but this morning all the swelling was down but it still hurts a lot in my distal region and I have no idea what to do but I have taped it how you said to do it and have put a few tissues it the front of my sock under the toes but I have no idea of what to do next do I go to someone? Or does it seem that it will heal on its own sorry if I wasted and of your time

I’ve been dealing with sesmoid flareups since 2015. So far nothing has helped. When the pain comes on, I’m basically useless for a week.

What if your sesamoid is straight up broken- not fractured? I have a sesamoidectomy scheduled in 2.5weeks to remove one of my sesamoid that’s broken. I tried stiff shoes and wearing a boot and it didn’t heal.

Did you have your sesamoid removed? My son’s sesamoid was broken in pieces and had it removed, it’s been 3 month of what doctor says is a 4 month healing process. He plays football

I think I hurt mine walking to get my vaccination as the nearest location was about 15 miles away, and I got the train and walked around 7 miles easily that day there and back, probably more, and I had these metal heel protectors on which I think helped make the whole experience crippling. The metal on concrete paving slabs. I've always walked mostly, since I can't drive. I've also got an uneven garden, and that sets it off. I'm not really sure how I got it. I didn't go back for the 2nd Vaccination, and I haven't regretted my decision! :) Thanks for all of your advice which I aim to take.

Swelling is coming down, I’m taking magnesium, vitamin c, d, massaging and stretching my tight muscles on my legs. I’m also trying to do squats to activate blood flow in my legs and toes. I’m also using spaces between my big toes to help with bunions that I just recently developed... the most important one, I’m praying for healing

Hello, I have followed your video very thoroughly. Im diagnosed with scapular diskensia as well as slipping 1st rib along with the the myofascial kinetic chain beginning in the toe from turf toe. Now 2 and a half years later I have advanced stage hallix rigidus and its traveling through my body. I am trying to do the foam rolling but ive got so stiff calves and when i try to do that maneuver my scapulas both wing and it is very painful. The towel trick sort of works and the board it on its way but I have questions of where my butt and the rest of my body sits. Everything crinkles and cracks in my body and I feel like a ghost by about 3 steps into my day. Do you have any suggestions? I live in spokane and it seems like ive done everything provider wise and no one has answers. How I got this? I was thrown into a wall by my ex partner and im positive that when it happened I tried to brace myself with my left foot and went over the toe. Nothing bruised and nothing broke but with time i have progressed so badly that i am considering filing for disability as it affects everything

I have a bunion on both feet, and harsh pain on my sesamoid bones every day just from walking (about 5 years now). My doctor is recommending surgery, but that is my last resort. Seeking some guidance/ advice. Has anyone had the surgery? What we’re your results? None of the stretching, orthotics, tape, conservative measures have worked for me.
