As someone who barely has a clue how the world of finance, wall street, and shareholders work, I think your comment made something click in my head. Once a company goes public, they become beholden to the people who play the game of "line goes up(?)," which encourages that company to do nothing but grow...much like a cancer cell. If something has to keep growing, there's got to be a point to when its food (consumer demand, worker labor, natural resources, etc.) would have to be abused lest it dies. That now cliched saying of "you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" is most applicable here.

They'll offer you cheaper credit as well (along with requirements, like the infamous ECG) - again, in order to raise the profits you may show and to raise the price. The creative growth and collapse curve of a genre or medium: 1. Experimental era - new creatives experiment with a new medium. The results are often of low quality, but it's exciting. Creatives are laying the groundwork for genre staples. Very niche. 2. Renaissance era - hands down the highest quality, most creative, most bizarre, and most inspiring work comes from this era. Artists expand and create new and exiting IPs. Interest is still niche but gaining attention. 3. Beginning of the end - Rich people realize there's money to be made and turn the genre into a mainstream powerhouse. With bigger budgets it's nigh impossible for independents to enter the medium at this point. Audience is now mainstream. 4. Bloat and collapse - The rich only allow a handful of creatives and IPs to exist in the medium they've taken over and destroyed. The medium is bloated, impossible to access for new creatives, and has left the mainstream audience bored and exhausted. 5. Death - The rich destroy what remains of the IPs and scavange, abandoning ship. 6. Future - After time passes, oftentimes a decade or two, new creatives see the bright spots in the dead medium and create new sparkling works with it. The future of the medium is in their hands. This curve can be applied to pretty much any medium or genre in history.

welcome to my world...ive been here the past 10-20 years...and only now it seems like everyone is finally on the same page as me. Problem is...all those people..they didnt listen to me or others who saw it comming those decades ago, they didn't listen 10 years ago...they only listen now because, as I warned them long ago, it would happen to thier beloved game series/studios and by then, it would be too late. You think you're angry now, Midnight...? Endure this for over 20 years..be double that age and living most of your life alongside gaming's lifespan. Experiencing its growing pains and golden days where the possibilities were endless, the games fun and complete and scams/crappy products run by studios were punished with rightful bankruptcy and closure. My rage is beyond measurable...it has overcycled to pure apathy and joy when I find this industry continues to mistep, lose money and destroy itself as it approaches the inevitable end result of crashing and burning to ash. Do you know...what it feels like...to wish for something you loved, that defined your childhood and life...to D I E!? there is no words... I can't wait for the day it all collapses to dust...cause once it burns, these corpos and cancers will abandon gaming and stop ravaging its decayed husk...and we can pick up the pieces and fix it back to normal.. better than before...and when they come back to pilfer our lands again: we close the gates and lock it. ..but that'll probably not happen in my lifetime.. >_>

Gaming hasn't been under the control of anyone who actually likes games, for a very long time. Does anyone **actually** believe that Todd Howard has ever actually sat down and played his own games just for the sake of enjoying them? I bet, no. I bet this guy plays zero games and the only time he plays them is when someone is showing him what they've been working on.

Generally I'm mixed on the gaming industry, because I understand why they're doing the layoffs, especially since big companies goals are only to grow and those layoffs and rehires end up being profitable both financially and in terms of the growth they are essentially forced to do or be left behind in the dust. At the same time some of the best smaller studios and games I've played period came out in the last 5 years, and I've never been more excited for upcoming releases of games and series I'm in love with. I do think it's more negative than positive, but I'm going to hold out hope that the success of games like Helldivers 2 and how they did, and how the backlash was received, hopefully some shareholders realise passion in a game can be profitable.

As always, it falls on the hands of the quiet and patient to capture all of the discarded parts. Indie games are rapidly evolving, becoming more and more competitive with the big companies. We have a chance to do-over everything that led us to this point. We can’t let this happen again.

And because of things like this, Indie games such as Ultrakill have went WILD. they feel better, fun, ALIVE EVEN. something that modern games.. aren't in my opinion. im gonna be completely honest, i feel like the late 90's and early 2000's WAS the peak of gaming as a whole, i might not have been there to experience it, but i can play those gems now and i can say for sure that that period of time was the peak of gaming.
