In my work as a counselor, I have noticed that women tend to think of divorce as some thing that had to happen. The marriage just didn’t work out and so they filed for divorce. Men on the other hand, seem embarrassed that they divorced. They tend to think of it as a personal failure that they couldn’t keep their marriage or their family together. I don’t have any data to back this app and haven’t done a study, but I think it’s a thread to follow.

Really enjoyed this podcast. I especially loved the part at 56:45 not because of this mindset explaining current strong lean towards identity politics (this topic has been covered by many people, like JBP, Haidt, etc.), but because it seems to me it also explains why so many people feel the need to do so many different things. The line "I will pick many things that are interesting, and I will tell people that I'm interesting..." made me realize (or at least consider) that. I think that's why many tie their interests with their identity "I'm a gamer", "I'm a Belieber", "I'm a gymrat", etc. and then they keep trying find more and more unique things to do. We can also see it manifest in how we try to make our life appear interesting on social media - posting pictures with exotic animals, jumping with a parachute, eating frozen camel poo, and so on. Don't get me wrong, nothing bad about those things (especially camel poo), but it often seems like collecting those "interesting moments" in order to be able to show and talk about them later, is the main goal. Even Gary Vee gave this advice to small business owners "Make your business unique and interesting, people will come to your restaurant not for food, but to be able to make a unique picture and post it on fb/ig". I don't know how true that is, I will think about it some more, but this idea of trying to present ourselves as interesting rather than having a good, admirable character, is definitely very intriguing. The only thing I'm not sure I agree with is that it used to be different "in the past". Maybe, but I don't see any evidence of that and we tend to romanticize the past. I think it's always been human tendency, it's just easier to pretend we are interesting these days and put it on a public display.

This episode was great! I think you voiced a key insight about today's ideologically possessed, let's call them SJWs, not being able to ''COMPETE'' at 1:00:10. That line made me see a connection between this victim-points mentality and today's economic climate! Because it's actually true that many young people can no longer ''COMPETE'' in today's highly globalized and technology-centered world! This loss of a valuable role, a purpose in life and a good career is certainly one contributor leading SJWs to rebel and go full Woke, supporting CRT, Marxism, BML, Antifa, or any other radical causes! If you think about it, the sad truth is that unless you're highly skilled and understand technology, for example, you know how to code, understand machine learning, or you can design or fix complex machines in today's technological society, then there's little demand for you and your skills as a person. Sure, there are still 'service' sector jobs available today, but they are much lower paid, not as valued by society, and will be outsourced and replaced by machines over the next decades. There is no way back from this technologized society. But it's almost no wonder that many young people are becoming resentful and falling victim to the mind viruses of CRT, postmodernism, BLM, Marxism, Antifa, etc.
@DEMillerEarl
@DEMillerEarl 3 жыл бұрын
@@badgerlife9541 okay I understand the argument, but I genuinely think you don't understand the value physical menial jobs have. A Farmer or welder or carpenter doing his job well literally allows for the technology that we use. Everything prior to having internet and running water and electricity has to be done and maintained constantly, or it will fall apart. So, those jobs are needed more than ever and needing to be highly skilled in technology matters but not as much as I think you think.
@badgerlife9541
@badgerlife9541 3 жыл бұрын
@@DEMillerEarl I agree. And at the moment we still have those jobs where people can learn a trade and work with their hands, but they're being automated at a rapid pace. Of course labor jobs will continue to exist even when machines take over most of the work in factories and construction, but you've gotta admit that there are a lot fewer of them since the US steel, mining, coal, automobile, etc. industries have all downsized immensely or been moved to China. Running water and electricity barely employs human labor compared to 100 years ago. Very soon trucking will be self-driving and warehouse labor will also be performed by machines. Have you seen Boston Dynamics?

I notice he did not mention transitioning out of our reproductive years. It is a reverse puberty that eventually turns us into who we were before puberty but with wisdom. I think most people in America that get depression and anxiety in their 40’s is because of the chemicals that fall to the way side after time just like puberty changed us from adolescence. It is sad we can’t talk about this process and the stigma attached to it in our society. It really is not all that bad once you make it there.👍🏼🌎☀️💙

Frankly we’ve been pretty duped... glad this man had the moxie to open this can of worms. This discussion touches upon the male sex drive as we know it coming from the perspective of a society that is quite ignorant of our very technologically advanced ancient past. The transcendental tantric practices passed down through the ancient esoteric teachings placed the genders on on a more balanced scale, with transmutation through proper practices moderating the tilt.

It took me a long time to figure it out (divorced after 20 yrs) and I've had some good talks with my son (22y) over the past few years about my part and her part in raising him. He gets it. My daughter(25y), however, believes I'm the bad parent and the ex is a victim. I can see the effects it's had on her and I'm saddened by it.

Glad we're still going strong 5 years into marriage.... Guess we're lucky. (so far) But 1:25 "we are rational beings" ohhhhhhhhhh boy..... if only. @Doctor Detroit "There is no climate change". That's a big statement that can't be backed up by anything. Even without the info we hear, it should be pretty obvious to the senses that something is up.. and that's from the UK, try going to the south of Italy, parts of India/Africa etc and tell them "there's no climate change," they'll put you in hospital. And that's without the actual actual evidence from actual melting glaciers. You can see it with your own eyes... unless you think (like flat earthers think of space photos) that every single photo is photoshopped. Being skeptical doesn't mean disbelieving everything. So about the thinking remark. Right back at you.

Would like to see the subject of single fathers discussed. I was a single father of a toddler still in diapers and his sister one and a half yeas older. I never remarried. No time, no money with research showing 80 percent of second marriages failing Too, with you being an only child a discussion on the effects of that.

Ladies, male s3x drive is extremely high because testosterone is like fuel for our libido. The thing is just because we are always thinking about it and want it doesn’t mean we can’t control ourselves. It just means if he is yours (or attracted to you), you can have him whenever you want. It is dependent on age though, when I was a teen I felt like it was like trying to contain a wild beast living inside me. As guys get older it becomes much easier to control. I don’t like the idea that guys are primarily only interested in s3x, we (most of us that is) absolutely also want a loving affection faithful relationship. The other thing is I disagree that women aren’t at times also at the mercy of their own hormones (just like men). The difference is instead when hormonal levels peak, for guys when we are young (teens and young men) our hormones are always in hyperdrive but for the ladies it may come and go in different ways. Also, the fact women can have most any guy at any time makes that need less of a priority. I don’t think it’s only that s3x is strictly emotional for women as eluded to here but it also at times primal just like for guys.

All super interesting but i really liked at arounf 30:20 about men who get depressed because they lack purpose or meaning. That really resonated because it was like Jordan Peterson who talks about men losing their identity. And reminds me of a Ted talk where a psychologist was talking about how depression was treated in other countries without drugs and he was saying that the people needed purpose - a project and one of the things he went on to do was to get a group of depressed people and told them to turn a crappy piece of land into a beautiful garden.... and it worked really well. It was like a key to ending depression in them without the use of drugs. Very interesting stuff "Women don't trust an unstable or unreliable man" --------- erm boris johnson's got a number of kids though... they can't all be from prostitutes.

The narrative type at 1:03:00 where a person goes from High to low back to High would fit the structure of The Prodigal Son and also the Persephone myth. The death and rebirth of Christ is another one. They're very ancient Archetypal stories.

What about a wife who was previously clinically diagnosed with anxiety, depression and OCD, was on meds as treatment. Then starts blaming the husband who gets physically ill dealing with this, even though he wants to emotionally help i.e. its just too much for him? Is it his fault for being able to cope with her being SO emotionally unstable? Oh, my wife, looks like a super model and is super intelligent, if you are wondering why I fell in love like an idiot and was prepared to ignore the issues ( and I had never dealt with serious mental issues in previous relationships )!

1:17:00 When reading stories of uncertainty in a pairing/"situationship" (for lack of a better term), I always wonder why you don't know. First date (maybe beforehand even), I'm wanting to cover some important basics about what we are looking for with the date. I can't believe so many people are not like this with first/second dates. He seems to be suggesting something a little more intense than that; but still much of this should be default/understood yet isn't.

The evolutionary slant is amazing. I've also been listening to the Dark horse podcast that often uses the evolutionary lens to view topics. We'd be dumb to think that we're so evolved as to have no connection to early mankind.

Overall, fantastic interview, a lot of truth that's very uncomfortable in this day and age. However, the ending was a bit off. One thing is, at the end suddenly all the "on average", "typically", are gone. The more sexual partners before marriage, the more after the marriage. Mental damage from a lot of sexual partners (???) The number of sexual partners as a predicament of the divorce. Point blank, that's what happens. Always. Erm, no, it's not. Yes, we are still mammals. But the reality is more nuanced than "womb is in a driver's seat". I understand that we crave black and white world but everything falls into a bell curve. That being said, I still think that if we talked more about evolutionary drivers, instead of pretending they don't exist, it would help everyone to navigate their emotional life better.
