A note about Snufkin and Moomintroll at the end of the last episode- I actually didn't think that that was literally what was going on personally, but i absolutely adore that read and it's a much sweeter thought than i had had so like- it should probably be what was going on haha- admittedly my read at the end of that episode was that Snufkin was imagining Moomintroll's presence, like he always does when he misses people from the valley when he's off in the winter in this show. In his first ep in season 1 he converses with an imaginary Moomin and makes it clear he OFTEN does this when he needs someone to talk TO in his isolation, and i believe in the S2 finale he asks Snorkmaiden if she was just imaginary as well (if i remember correctly) and while she wasn't, I had assumed that this was the continued Snufkin coming to terms with his own desire to love and be loved that he stifles so strongly so he can favor the comfort of isolation (blahblahsomethingsomething he and Little My have clear trauma from being misraised by Not-exactly-mother-of-the-year-Mymble and cope in completely opposite ways) and wasn't QUITE ready to go the full mile but would test it out by imagining Moomintroll's company more often but perhaps i was reaching lmao occam's razor and all- honestly i think i prefer your version anyway

I was near tears at the end of this... you actually NAILED the explanation for why this season ended up most people's favorite. I think that while the season as a whole was fantastic and had banger episode after banger episode, what truly elevates it is how _cathartic_ it feels. After three seasons of seeing these characters and witnessing their many flaws yet wonderful qualities shine through, this season takes all the growth they've gone through and rewards them for it, and the viewer. What the creators said at the beginning of the show, that we had to be patient and wait for the story to unfold was NOT a lie, it was worth it to get them to this point. The development that Snufkin and Moomintroll have had, learning to understand and appreciate each other for all their qualities, good and bad, and also learn when to call each other out, was what made their episodes this season _so freaking good_. The complexity they have as well as the emotional work the both of them have learned to put in, all culminating in the two absolutely amazing scenes at the end of Lonely Mountain and the season finale. The show puts so much thought and love into the formation of its characters, and I frankly don't know any show that has the same emotional grip on me. Super excited for season 4, and extremely hopeful that they are able to give these characters a happy ending because they REALLY DESERVE IT 😭 Side note: it's amazing to have you back and the wait was absolutely worth it, because this might be by far one of my favorite videos from you! Really excited to hear Snufkin's analysis too!

I'm so SO excited to see how this series tackles the comet story! They kind of had a test run in having the family react to danger with the volcano in season 2 (still an excellent episode), but this is the REAL deal. This storyline is gonna span the entire season, after all, plus we have some more characters on board since then 👀

Something that fixes that plothole(?) for me is assuming the harmonica was enchanted. Like a small dose of mind control magic. And Snufkin's tune on the golden harmonica was more eerie and off-sounding than his usual songs so I think we're meant to assume something wasn't right with his mind

I really enjoyed this video, or at least I want to. I want to love The Moomins with the same hyperfixated brainrot that I used to during quarantine times, I'm frustrated that the series doesn't comfort or inspire me like I used to. I fear I won't find myself satisfied with the fourth and final season when it comes, because to paraphrase Jacksepticeye, I won't be longing for the old within the new, I will long for how I felt back then. Putting my life story aside, there is one detail in your video essay that really irked me, and that's a disagreement in interpretation of one pivotal scene, of Snufkin & Moomin watching the northern lights. I think this is supposed to harken back to season 1's Spring Tune, where Snufkin was talking to a pile of snow imagining it to be Moomintroll, who would respond very politely and completely supportive of his perspective. Likewise in Lonely Mountain, Snufkin is not sitting with the real Moomin who followed through with finally respecting Snufkin's need for winter privacy, but rather with an imaginary, idealized version of Moomin, the sort of Moomin who hasn't grown better independence, initiative, and accountability for others as we see in season 3. A Moomin who doesn't question Snufkin's untethered and flightful nature. As unprecedented as Lonely Mountain is as an episode, I didn't really like it in the context of this series specifically, as I thought it completely spat in the face of Moomin's lessons of loving without the toxicity of obsessive/possessive traits, especially as it took just too long for the troll to take a f---ing hint and reevaluate the situation, which is the same issue I found in both the A & B plots of Inventing Snork for Moomin & Snorkmaiden respectively. On a more positive note, I was delightfully surprised at your boldness to defy the pervasive adoration of Snufkin in the fandom as a cool and unflawed character, forgetting that *not a single soul* in Moominvalley is spared from the epidemic of *problems disorder*. It's the flaws that make characters more fleshed out and useful to tell relatable stories with strong lessons, and I really enjoy Snufkin at last facing the consequences of his actions. Now when are we gonna see the same with Sniff finally snapping against Moomin (and Gutsy itself) for making him little more than the third wheel comedy relief? He's more than a greedy coward and I will die on that hill! (And I have a certain blooming flower to thank for presenting me with this perspective) One more thing; how many times did Little My f---ing cry in this season!? I know she's the oldest of the "kids" and therefore the best candidate to handle tougher themes, but my god, give my little sociopath a damn break.

Someone else in the comments also had an "imaginary moomintroll" interpretation of the last scene and I found it so surprising, it didn't cross my mind at all! But again, it does feel like something Snufkin would do... I think I like to interpret it as Moomin really being there because it also shows that Snufkin is more comfortable with talking to the real Moomin, instead of having to picture an imaginary one to open up to; but that's just my take!

dude your takes are so real 🫶🫶 i understand what they were trying to do with Lonely Mountains/Inventing Snork but like,, did we *have* to make Moomintroll the most dense person alive for 10 minutes straight before we got the message? i think it definitely discredited some previous character progressions, making it seem a but more like he's reverting back to S1 behavior rather than continuously learning in an uphill curve. the whole snufkin thing too haha,,,, the guy gets treated with such a level of respect and coolness (that basically goes against his whole character lmao) to the point where his flaws are often ignored. he's selfish!! horribly stubborn!! causes a lot of his own problems!! i think a lot of that gets terribly lost within his complexities as a character, because he is nevertheless a very interesting character that has been explored endlessly, and opened more complexities because of it by the fandom. honestly, i think that could be achieved with any character, though, and there are definitely some that need that same level of respect and analysis as snufkin has (not that it's fundamentally a bad thing, ofc). sniff tho 😭😭 i agree 100%, sniff is so mistreated by nearly everyone (gutsy, fandom, his peers [AGAIN LOOKING AT SNUFKIN. he's mean to sniff in mv19 for literally no reason help]), when in reality he's just another complex character to be explored. a lot of people seem to forget that he's the youngest, of course he's gonna be a little self-centered and annoying, but not to the point where he cannot show basic empathy or learn from his mistakes!! honestly so thankful for Flowerbloom Arts' Sundog AU for giving him love
