Hi. I am watching your channel from Australia. Love your reviews, The couple approach from two people who enjoy a good drive is very refreshing. I am glad to see you finally have got to experience the Ranger. It is the best seller in Australia. Whilst full-size trucks are growing in Australia, the mid-size is the largest segment here. For everyday use, the mid-size is popular for tradies and families. The latest Ranger was developed with VW's Amarok. I'm not sure you get that in Canada/USA. We get the Raptor as well in exactly the same spec as you do. The hero engine in the Ranger is the V6 diesel as we do not get petrol versions as the price of fuel here is high. That being said, the VW Amarok gets an Ecoboust 2.3T in its halo model. Ford also does an SUV version of the Ranger here called tge Everest, which also sells well here. This is my first comment on your channel, and I felt compelled to say something after seeing this review. Keep up the good work. I am sure you guys would love Australia if you had the chance to visit.

I'm good with the key. What's the diff if you have to carry a fob or a key. No battery stuff down the road and if you loose one a key at the dealership is way less and easy to get. We have a 2.3 XLT and a 2.7 XLT 4wd on the way. I drove all mentioned and I almost bought the Colorado but the ranger was slightly more comfy especially the drivers seat and was about 1k less base motor to base motor and offered more content, Imagine that in todays market place. The 2.7 is in a league of its own. Way improved with smooth excellent power delivery. Good review guys.

I guess the only difference with the FOB is that you don't have to have it out. It just has to be on you somewhere, grab the handle, push the start button and go. For some that is a major convenience. For me, not a big deal either way.

Great review guys 👍👍I know you like the 2.7 EcoBoost Engine. But I read an article about the direct fuel injection that's causing carbon deposits on intake valves. Also causes engine performance issues like weaker performance, increased fuel consumption, and rough idling. Also early models of the 2.7L engine had oil pans which are made of plastic with poor sealings. Have you heard any news on this? Keep up the great work!! 👍

PHEV, the middle way. My sedan, with 455 HP and a 41 mile battery, more than triples the mpg of my last 240HP ICE. This is explained in the AAA Foundation Driving Survey, which found that the average trip is 12.3 miles, 2.44 times a day. The engine in my PHEV starts maybe 5 or 6 times a month, for the longer drives. I do fine around town on electric, the motor can deliver 451 lbs ft to the rear wheels instantaneously. Over a 2 year period I burned 199 gallons.

I am a die hard Toyota guy and currently drive a 2009 Tacoma TRD. If I were shopping for a new truck to replace it, I wouldn't even visit a Toyota dealer. This new Ranger and the Nissan Frontier that you mentioned would be in consideration. Also, keyless ignitions may be convenient for you, but they are also convenient for thieves. I wonder if there would be so many new Toyota Tundras stolen if they still had keyed ignitions.

Around here, you can't give a new Tundra away. Nobody wants them LOL same with the Tacoma. Toyota needs to step away from the Truck manufacturing and concentrate on hybrid SUVs and sedans which they excel at making. Toyota was the go to small truck form factor manufacture 20 years ago. Since then they have all been duds, I know, had both Gen 2 and Gen 3 Tacoma 4wd. Real turds both of them.

I find the Maverick to be getting to expensive. Just to get things that come standard in other vehicles you have to pay for it. Before you know it you’re getting close to 50 grand. There are vehicles you can get with heated seats, steering wheel, blind spot monitoring etc for 35 -40 grand. Ford makes you pay extra.. in 2023 I thought about ordering a Maverick. One of the reasons I didn’t is the vehicle I did buy was more bang for my buck.

Regarding the comparison between the F-150 and the Ranger, depending on trim, the pricing differential is a legitimate concern. However, many if not most Ranger buyers I would guess are purchasing on the basis of preferred size - to Andrea's point about garageability but also overall handiness, driving and parking in the city Etc, and I would think efficiency of operation. In apples to apples configurations, the F-150 still has a much larger footprint, and is just bigger overall including height and being about 18 inches wheelbase and 20 inches longer overall and 5 inches wider in track width, not insignificant figures when you just want small(er).

Ditching my 3rd gen colorado to many problems with the 8 speed trans so looking for a new truck and narrowed it down to frontier and ranger. Test driving I like how the ranger handles and the v6 power is fun! I like the frontier because its offered in a v6 ex cab 6ft bed option. No matter how much I like the Ranger I cannot justify the price. My brother-in-law has the old Ford Ranger the last year in production V6 engine rear wheel drive only but with automatic transmission and air conditioning came out the door with taxes $16500 in Toronto. With a few options the current Ranger is $60000 after tax. Insane. And that 2.7 L turbo is never going to last as long as the old V6. Car companies are going to stop being able to sell any cars eventually.

Good call. It's likely where my money would go. It's a proven vehicle with rock solid reliability and resale value. As tempting as this vehicle may be, it's no longer the value it used to be (in 1989, Rangers in Canada were between $9,000 and $16,000 depending on trim and options instead of $53k for a mid-trim equipped version today). Also, Ford Ecoboost engines (and now the 5.0L V8) use a belt driven oil pump which is an engine failure waiting to happen when it fails (which many are starting to). While you can get it inspected and replace it (if you catch it before it fails and destroys your engine), it is a very expensive job to do. No idea why they went this way, there was really no reason to use it, other than to set a timer for a future failure point.

We didn't need a full size truck anymore so we drove all the mid size trucks and the Honda suited us the best. In my opinion it's also the best handling truck (on road of course) and is very stable and confidence inspiring in winter weather conditions (we live in the Cochrane district) of northern Ontario. We don't go off roading but we probably take ours down more logging roads and bush trails than the average Joe and as long as you don't exceed it's intended use you'll find it capable to accomplish many tasks. If I need to off road I bring my 750 Suzuki King Quad along for the tour.

I meant a wet oil pump belt that can fail early and result in zero oil pressure. Better choice is the Nissan if you plan on keeping the pick up for a few years. That being said, I would never buy a used Ford Ranger.

Before the Rangers were back on the market, I put down $500. When they finally came out, I drove one and I wasn’t impressed with the engine option or lack of options and the price was ridiculous. I decided to keep my F150, more comfortable and powerful.

When they relauched, the base Ranger was at least $5K CAD more expensive than the old base F150, from that point I lost interest.

@@jackg7225 The F150 comes in single, extended, and crew cab configurations plus a ton of trim options. Too bad the Ranger comes in only crew cab, shorter bed, and thus higher price. The previous generation came in extended cab and under $30,000.

Nice review, although I disagree with your complaints on the key. Wish we could go back to cheaper keys. I don't mind sticking my key in the ignition. ... Thought Chevy did away with that base output and made the 310 hp standard?

Exactly my thoughts. Operation wise there isn't much difference between a key and push button key fob. but there's a huge price difference if you were to replace them !!!

I miss keyless entry. I got tired of using the key to open the door every time. I had to put my grocery bags on the ground and I just found it inconvenient. For those who don't do big grocery shops, it's not a big deal I suppose.

I am indifferent about the key vs push button. I can take it or leave it. I'm also not totally brand loyal. I downsized from a Ram to a 2024 Ranger. However, due to really bad experiences with import brands, I won't but any import brand vehicles. I love the my new Ranger and really enjoy driving it. I find it to be a perfect fit for me and it has exceeded my expectations. Full-size trucks have grown too big and I got tired of having to get on a ladder just to wash the hood of my 2012 Ram.

Jeep Gladiator & Honda Ridgeline have a V6. If I’d get a Ranger, I’d definitely get the V6. I don’t like that there is no sunroof, power rear sliding window, push button start outside of the lariat trim. Prices are high like every other truck. The styling is SAFE but agreeable with most. The bed is too small.

I wonder if they fixed the smoke on start up at certain temperatures. The 2.7 Eco-Boost F150 I had It used fill my driveway with smoke. Was kind of embarrassing starting up in a busy parking lot. For the price I’d stick with the F150, the back seats in the F150 are super handy for road trips.

Big vehicles are no more expensive to make than small vehicles. It takes the same time to bolt the whole thing together. The only difference is the amount of material used, and that's where the price difference comes. Hence, the F150 is only slightly dearer.

If Ford offered the Ranger as an extended cab pickup I would consider it because I really like the Ranger over the new Tacoma but I just don’t need or want a four door truck. Don’t get me wrong I think it looks good but it’s like owning a big car with an exposed trunk. This is the reason why I still have my old 1989 Toyota extended cab pickup with the 4 cylinder it works for me as my every day vehicle. Trucks today are just too big and expensive with all their electronic gadgets that you know will go bad one day and be very expensive to repair once the warranty is up. For now I’ll just hold on to my old simple, reliable and easy to work on Toyota pickup that still looks good and it’s still going strong. If I was to buy a new truck today I would look into the Nissan Frontier King cab. As for the push button starter, I’ve lived without it in all my vehicles for many years and having a key is ok with me.

Does the key make it slightly harder to steal? Also, the second gen 2.7L has the wet belts. That's a Deal breaker for me as we had a ford in the family with the wet belt failure resulting total engine failure. Lease this truck yes. Buy this truck no way Jose.

That’s also not true it’s still an electronic mechanism that can be overridden by a computer. It’s interesting how on comments people confidently speak on what they don’t know when all I did was read two articles by ford about ford and steering locking mechanisms and how they are mandatory to be electronic even if there’s a key… Also remember the Kia boys? They literally were able to steal cheaper Kia’s that DID NOT have keyless start
