This is gold man, thank you (and all the community) so much for your efforts! I put the FOV to 0.5 and most settings on ultra. I find that looking at reality through a rectangular tube is much more realistic than having a 105° view of a pixelated mess. Now I almost regret ordering the G2 which will arrive this week. Not sure my ryzen 3600x + 2070 super setup can run it as good as the Quest 2 with these settings.

I have both Wireless setup going, and now am setting up the newly received, fast cable, and trying these settings. For Wireless, which is more free'er in usage (head movement). I use Vridge, and as it has built in adjustments similar the Oculus Tray Tool (actually tons more) and is delivering great results. The link cable without the OTT in native form seems to be crazy high frame rate, until the next stutter every 10-20 secs depending how fast you move your head. It's like it has no limits set, cause well it doesn't (Without OTT) Am keen to now try with OTT installed an configured, just for comparison , but yeah Wireless is amazing. Full freedom of movement. Heck I can even do a walk around the aircraft like IRL.

Thanks Steve. I currently have a G2, thinking of sending it back as I find the sweet spot too small and the image outside of the sweet spot deteriorate so quickly it becomes distracting. I know the quest 2 sweet spot won't be as sharp/ clear, but is it bigger than than the G2. Also is there more clarity beyond the sweet spot towards the edge on quest 2 compared with the G2. MRTV seems to think so, I'd like to get your opinion.
@VRFlightSimGuy
@VRFlightSimGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Delboy, first and foremost the Quest 2 is not as sharp in the centre as the G2, however you are right, the sweet spot is most definitely larger, as is the fov (out of the box), since the G2 has a large face pad that can inhibit the fov and to some degree, the sweet spot. Don't forget though the Q2 only has 3 positions for its IPD. Good luck!

I also switched (back) yesterday to newest nvidia driver as I found the myth with the driver from spring last year is totally bollocks my problems were only caused by VD (which I use for wireless) and not by SteamVR and/or the drivers. Another great video. Thanks for sharing it. I've just been helping a guy out with his Quest 2 set up over on the FS2020 forums and one thing that some people might find helpful is that if you're using the Steam version of the sim do not run it through SteamVR. SteamVR just adds another unnecessary layer into the mix. Run the Quest 2 through the Oculus OpenXR registry instead. I think most people who have tried it said it performs better and is much less of a faff. Thats certainly what I found anyway. I'm just waiting on Nvidia releasing their new drivers. I still can't get rid of those little micro stutters. I'm using a RTX 3080 and with in the tray tool I can play with almost everything in the sim on ultra at 90Hz in the headset. It looks stunning and would be super smooth if it wasn't for a little stutter once every second or so.

Also, should I hang on until I can get a better GPU (the GTX980 is from my previous build) or do you think the Quest 2 experience will be good enough with this older card considering I mainly only fly GA (C152, C172, C208) in rural situations, only visiting large towns and airports on occasion, and get 40FPS in such situations that I am more than happy with? I really like your explanation of every thing. However, I have a problem and you seem to be the guy who might have the answer. I have a new Quest 2 with the latest software and MSFS with the latest software. I also have a new Alienware computer. My computer recognizes my Oculus. But when I click on the VR selection in MSFS I get a double screen but nothing shows up in my Oculus, just the same screen about setting up Guardian. Can you help me. Thanks - Gary

Sone has a Quest 2, a connection cable that cost £80 and MSFS on a PC. I came here to see how to actually set this up, not just 'settings'. No help whatsoever. How do we physically get the VR working with the PC?

I finally got my Quest 2s to work with MSFS, but it was not obvious. 1st I could not get the Quests to connect to the Oculus app. with a cable: that was I had wireless enabled; the cable wont work with WiFi selected. I tried SteamVR with no success, but then, by accident, I found poking at the Oculus desktop app that I could select FS and launch it from the headset with Oculus link enabled. That works but now I have to fix all the annoying jitter and jumping around. This video did not explain the basics, I still haven't found that in hours of searching but the above is working.

If you are using Oculus link/Air link instead of Virtual Desktop DO NOT change the bitrate in tray tool. It will cause extreme lagging. Took me ages to figure out and get it working properly again. Otherwise the suggestions are solid. Changing ASW to 18 Hz in tray tool has made the game playable for me. Before I was getting terrible shimmering/distortion running on a 3080 machine. That's gone now.

I upgraded my PC last week and had to reinstall windows. I resetup my settings and now flight sim just lags in the single digits when I switch to vr. I have over 40fps near London on ultra settings at 1440p flat mode but when I switch to vr, it is running about 5 fps and I don't know why. It should be perfectly fine and I've had it run fine before. I made sure it is using openxr with oculus in the registry instead of steamvr which fixed this problem last time I had it. But I don't know.

I am just about to give up using link. The problem is, I turn on the performance visual HUD, and it's showing -100-300% performance headroom. And frames are droppping literally into the thousands, no matter which settings i go for that is what I get via VR MSFS2020.

I've had lots of problems with link, also using an rtx 3070, but with a ryzen 5 3600x and 16gbs ram. Performance is really unstable, sometimes it works amazing, others its unplayable. I just tried virtual desktop for the first time today and had a like 70% increase in performance. A bit of compression artifacts due to not messing with the setting, but otherwise flawless and with no jitter at all. Are you using the original link cable? let me know if you manage to actually get link working
@SnakeHelah
@SnakeHelah 3 жыл бұрын
@@eseagente I did get link working but im not completely sure which one works better TBH. Msfs2020 is just hard to run in VR, especially for 3070. are you pushing the max resolution? I kind of want to find playable setting for the 1,7 resolution that is the max that the quest 2 can give, because it just looks amazing. But i dont think 8gb VRAM of the card is enough. I have a 3700x. I did find a 30 fps locked experience by turning my settings to ultra/high and 100% scaling in game, but i was running 1,3 or 1,4 res in the oculus settings (for link i mean). It was the smoothest experience overall, least visually glitchy, but it wasn't as clear as using 1,7. I really am not sure what to do.
@SbSdude
@SbSdude 3 жыл бұрын
@@SnakeHelah I have pretty much the same config as you (3700x, RTX 3070, 32gb RAM) and I just couldnt get it stable using 90mhz. I found VD too laggy but may be due to wifi interference (although on 150mb connection) so I want to try that again. In the end I had to bump it down to 72mhz and 1.5 Oculus app rendering, which was a bit of a revelation as I could maintain 25-35fps at medium-high settings. 0.75; 0.75 fov, adaptive resolution off, ASW disabled and forced 45fps. Tokyo at 2500ft gives me about 30fps. HAGs and Game mode off. I definitely concur about the 8gb VRAM, which is where lesser cards with 8+ seem to perform better and until FS2020 is optimised better I think we're stuck
