oh mr. Ravichandran, unfortunately you missed out the information about geothermal power production. From audience one guy asked a good question but you have not given a decent answer for it.(its not your fault nobody knows everything about in detail but i strongly suggest you to have a look on renewable energy sources and how it works. Solar and wind energy are not the only renewable energy sources there are others sources like geothermal energy) At present in India, we are having 6 geothermal projects which are at already running condition for at least in a small scale electricity production. Those are 1.Tattapani in Chhattisgarh. 2.Puga in Jammu & Kashmir, 3. Cambay Graben in Gujarat.4. Manikaran in Himachal Pradesh, 5. Surajkund in Jharkhand, 6. Chhumathang in Jammu & Kashmir. (sorry i do not know much more details about these power stations) The biggest one in world is at Kenya of 250 MW power capacity for audience:- Remember geothermal power production is not directly from lava/ magma which is earth's molten stage heavy metals like Iron, Cobalt etc. which is mentioned by Ravichandran. Because the temperature is too high to handle with our current technology. The fact is such molten stage things having temperature ranging from 2000 C to 3500 C at that temperature our drilling equipment also got melted. Remember dealing with volcanic semi solids during explosion or other controlled way is nearly impossible because such liquids have high temperature difficult handle (we are talking about same lava during volcanic explosion) How actually geothermal power station works?: the answer is not by using such high temperature semi solid liquids. We are just utilizing another seismic effect called highly pressurized water having high temperature which are coming out from deep inside of earth surface.This phenomenon rarely can observe in specific places of earth like Manikaran near Manali, himachal Pradesh. During electricity production we will just redirected this high temperature water vapor (remember it is not only consisting with water vapor but also included Hydrogen Sulfide, sulfur, Nitrogen and other gases) towards a turbine which will forced to rotate because of high pressure of these gases and vapor and the turbine which is connected to a generator makes electricity just like in hydro electric power what high pressure water do it through nozzle from high potential state like reservoir. Why this not become popular?: the coast of these machinery and drilling and controlling equipment and technology is extremely costly much more than that of solar energy and wind energy production. to implement for these need very high investment. And there is no dedicated company until now specifically dedicated for this (only 1 or 2 companies are there world wide) . In India all those projects are just demonstration based not for an industrial based power generation. Is there any such power plan which make large scale power production? yes it is at Keniya made geothermal power plant which is known as the world' largest geothermal power plant of 250 MW (remember kerala's largest hydro electric project Idukki, producing only 660 MW during all generators are working at full fledged condition). you can watch this video, Keniya's prestigious geothermal power station for more understanding kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpLZo2VriKyapsk NB** good presentation and information presented also looks nice and simple.. Nice attempt by Ravichandran . But global warming/ co2 emission and the cause of it are very detailed area of research its better to have a much more detailed presentation with some experts as Ravichanran said a the end.
