Carl is a breath of fresh air. He is offering a historical reason. For his constructive criticism. If Cadillac wants to regain its prestige, then it cannot just put out crap. And must be priced where people can afford. Cadillac and GM by extention, is a example of America and Americans only hearing what the want to hear and not what they NEED to hear. They ban Carl because they do not want to hear even constructive criticism. They want a self congratulatory echo chamber. GM, a storied company, is a failing company. The CEO and the board of GM are so out of touch with the market and its customers. They are not a luxury brand. They can not compete in that arena. Buick need and Hummer needs to be dropped. Pontiac needs to be brought back as small and midsized affordable cars and sports cars. Perhaps as hybrids, like Toyota. Not trucks or SUVs. Priced from 16k to 28k. No more. They can do it. They just don't want to.

I heard after Cadillac became a big success for GM that Leland went back across town into Henry Ford's office to convince him that he needed a competitive car. He offered to design it and Ford needed to name it after a president. Yes to ambulances and race cars and all of the models sold for a very good price and became quite popular. There are numerous selling points to the Lyriq which has lots of great design features. My biggest negative comment is that while the base price is reasonable, a car equipped like a Cadillac costs as much as higher ends like the Model S which comes with all wheel drive and air suspension standard, and has been around lots longer.

That must have been a charger issue, the evse tells the car how much is available and simply won't disperse above it's rated amperage. I have 2 evses hard limited to 32A and 16A regardless of which vehicle you plug them into. A setting inside the evse at that hotel must have been incorrect or there was an internal issue that lead to the breaker popping. I wouldn't chalk that up to a vehicle issue.
@nfwolfpryde Жыл бұрын
You're largely correct @@FACTOTUM_55 I imagine. The EVSEs they had were pretty old. Their screen on the EVSE reported they were setup for 32A, so I believe they had been setup correctly, but the Lyriq kept trying to pull 48A. My best guess is the EVSE didn't properly communicate with the Lyriq, either they didn't follow the standard correctly or simply didn't communicate, and the Lyriq defaulted to pulling as much as it could. Ecosystems are hard.

They HAD to buy decent screens they are still using tech from the early 90s just like the rest of their technologically stunted junk. I can say confidently ,without even seeing or operating their UI, it will either be clunky , slow/laggy or glitchy pick any combination of those and or maybe all 3. The reason I know this is because they dont write their own software and when they do try they hire 500 people to do something that 2 could do better. Then they give them as already stated 20 year old chipsets to work with and then to integrate that with other manufacturers 30 year old chipsets , no way that hodge podge of junk will work reliably .

Love the appreciation for automotive history. It is good to admit when you love a brand, and even better when you can give it real critical reviews. If you really love something, pointing out the flaws or areas to improve gives them a chance to make the product better. GM not letting Munro have a review unit is disappointing, but their horror stories of hand building disappointinum, I mean Ultium battery packs and the painfully slow production lines for Lyriq, creates fear among GM PR. Thus them not wanting popular critical outlets getting a chance to review the vehicle. After seeing this, I would go with an EV9 over this. Not a fan of the crazy brick design, but I feel like it will be built better. I want to see the US manufacturing industry rise, but Ford and GM do not seem to elevating their game. Pay raises for the workers, but Ford keeps setting new records for recalls and GM just struggles with their EV game. Both companies have suffered from leadership issues for decades and I believe they need company culture overhauls. I have bought many Fords before giving up and my father bought many GM products before giving up. I believe there are many Americans who want to buy a Ford or GM, but have lost faith in the companies.

The central position of the 12v means it can be reached by any of the occupants and the device plugged in to it does not require an excessively long cord. Think about a tire pump: you can lead it out any of the four doors directly to the wheel. Any other position you need a much longer cord or more than one outlet. Cord length matters much more at 12v than it would at mains voltage because the cord has to be much thicker for the same power.

They should add a high power USB-C like Tesla does then. Can’t be that much more expensive.

@bartwaggoner2000 Tesla isn’t high power, only about 42W.

Carl's reviews are always nice. I have no interest in Cadillac, and especially the Lyriq's '90s-looking interior, but Carl made the review interesting and watchable.

Thanks to Carl from another Cadillac lover for an excellent review. I have been personally sad to see Cadillac abandon the bold style decisions of the late oughts and early teens that made their vehicles stand out. Looking forward to more great content from Munro and Associates

The Lyriq has no frunk (front storage compartment). The reason? GM decided to make the rear storage bigger (28 cu ft behind the second row). But the Tesla Model Y has 30 cu ft behind the second row and 4 cu ft of frunk space in a car that's 9 inches shorter. This tells me that GM design and engineering is inferior to Tesla's. But then we knew that.

That is a 2023 not a 2024. The 24 switched to a different handle design. They also added a napa leather option albeit only on top trim which may address some material issues. Cadillac really is struggling with the Lyriq, they haven't delivered any 24's with Super Cruise as they are still working out software bugs, along with various quality issues leaving the factory. Thousands of Lyrics are sitting in factory lots waiting for software updates and Cadillac won't admit they have a problem or give a timeline of when they will start delivering them again.

Carl, this is my first time on your channel and I as well own and love the Cadillac brand. I took a test drive in the Lyric and it was nice but something about it just didn’t move me and I couldn’t put my finger on it. Maybe it was a few things that you’ve mentioned in this video and I just didn’t realize it at the time. I definitely like and respect your unbiased opinion of the pointed out details and I also agree that Cadillac could have done a much better job. Hopefully GM sees this video and take value in your opinions and possibly fix these issues moving forward. But you’ve definitely gained a new subscriber. Keep doing a great job and take care.

As for the door pull handle at about 07:00, I have had my hand pinched by the door trying to close again (with wind, for instance). That pinch won't happen with the top pull.

I LOVE Carl's reviews. His emphasis on production details is super interesting. That said, I would like to put a hand up to say "I really like having 12V assess in the center console". The reason is to power a portable tire inflator that I always keep in the car. I know that there are tire inflation pumps that have their own battery, but that means there is another battery to maintain for a device that is only used 2 to 3 times per year. The reason the center console is such a key location for the 12V port is because that is the only location for a plug that allows the pump power cord to reach all four wheels. Typically, the only time I need to use the tire inflator is on the coldest days of winter, which result in tire under-pressure alerts. It is exactly on a cold day like that that I really value the convenience of plugging the pump in one spot and being able to reach all 4 tires. It would also be on super cold days when a tire inflator with a self-contained battery would be most likely fail. Well, that's my two-cents. All the best!

Wife & I just did our first test Drive of the Lyriq and my first concern was my entry to the car, (back story: I'm a 280Lb. 6'2" guy with a Fused Spine), I found bending my head down and butt way back in the seat I fit through the door jamb, how ever the Seat needed to be adjusted all the way back so I would not be on the Side-Ribs of the Seat. Then the pre-seat setting came in handy. Carl was right the Seat was way too stiff in the back and didn't have any Cushion as you would expect from Cadillac Seats of the past. I would have to agree that you see way too many things that are just not needed in the way of gadgets that distract you from the reality of needed car functionality. The Ride was Cadillac™ for sure, and the Acceleration was more than expected, it felt Solid, the ride was smooth, but for a long road trip, I think a soaf slab of Foam may need to cover those Air Holes in the Seats to allow my Stiff Back not become Stiffer than this D.I.S.H. already is. As Carl was Spot on with his Review.

Got a lesson on car interior design and implementation. You were asking where the money is, its in the EV components. I test drove one and the plastic under the center console door came off. Crazy for a legacy auto maker not to be on point with basic car fit and finish.

You said that it is a 2024 model. That door handle design suggests that it is a 2023 model. The 2024 model ditched that and replaced that with motorized flushed door handle like other EVs.

Cadillac is producing outstanding vehicles- the two Blackwing models are universally acclaimed, with the V8 version called by some possibly the best mass produced ICE sedan produced today. Yes, they criticized the interior materials on that too, but for a lot us, it's a minor point, The performance, handling and ride are world class. The Lyriq is a first attempt by GM and their supplies at a mainstream EV sedan. It's going to have teething problems.

This is a 2023 Lyric. The 2024 doesn't have the tab on the front doors. The door handles on the 2024 pop out to serve as the door pull. Also, the glove box release has been (somewhat) simplified on the 2024 with a new controls icon on the main screen, eliminating most of the navigation through icons.

I was on the wait list for a Lyriq. I thought a year was too long to wait for a car. I canceled my order. Looks like I would not have been happy. Thanks Carl. I too am looking for comfort, without silly pricing. (I’m looking at you EQS)
@johnpoldo8817 Жыл бұрын
As an EQS 580 owner, I assure you there’s ample comfort. The front headrests have pillows and rear seats offer detached pillows. Front seat massagers have numerous options but be careful not to get distracted with all its settings. Rear wheel steering is outstanding on this very long EV. However, you could buy buy two Lyriqs for the price of EQS.

Long ago I drove a '77 Ford Pinto. Actually between my family and some friends, we had several of them. They also had an annoying door buzzer. But i was a lot easier to fix back then. The first thing you'd do after acquiring one was to reach under the dash and rip out the buzzer. Most of the ~20 pintos we went through had already had their buzzers ripped out.

My wife is a nurse practitioner. She travels to patients' houses all day. She likes havthe 12v outlet in the console so she can hide her mess of chargers (work phone, laptop power brick, gps, personal phone). The only GM vehicle we owned was a CTS4. We had it for 12 years and only out 52k miles on it because we found my dodge journey more comfortable. How's that for a cadillac endorsement! We replaced it with a Nissan Murano.
@wylangross9940 Жыл бұрын
Thats a 2023 not a 2024, evident by the door handles and bat wings vs the presenting handles of a 2024. Review a 2024 and I'm sure lots of these quality concerns have been addressed. The controls menu to open the glove box is annoying but you get a button on the infotainment screen when the vehicle is off to access the controls menu without powering the vehicle up, i don't remember a time when mine didn't have that button but it might have come in a software update that this vehicle was missing. Seat cushion complaints? Everyone who rides in the vehicle comments at how great the seats are. At the dealer ride and drive it was the same thing, every dealer was saying how great the seats were. And as far as the rear center seat, come on those are the seat of last resort and never used except by a random child or adult being crammed in to carpool somewhere.
