@webnothing i think we have designers going a little too far and we end up with shit like turn signals and reverse lights in the lower bumpers of cars where you can't see them. Plus those are harder to replace and easier to break. I make designs myself but as an engineer there has to be a certain level of function. Artistry and Industriousness must meet somewhere in the middle for me

They already made some variations of this theme in the 45 concept and Vision T concept. If they can stamp and paint creases this sharp, I'm sure they can do something with those concepts as well.

There's nothing wrong with light bars themselves, it's just that it's a sudden trend that's sweeping the market (especially Hyundai) and sometimes doesn't add to the overall design.

The actual reason they put that "Z" shape in the door is because they knew that it would be bought second hand for $1500 in ten years, and that person would inevitably dent the doors, so they put dents in from factory.

About the IVT, it doesn't work like a CVT, the CVT work like a scooter, otherwise, the IVT simulate a traditional automatic transmission with 8speed.. btw love all your redisigns

I bought the car yesterday and I’m very pleased with the design, especially the rear tail lights; finally a car with some “George Jetson“ flair! The only surprise was that the intense blue exterior color’s appearance changed later in the day as the Sun moved to lower angles in the sky; at those times the blue projects a somewhat purple tint which I like but wasn’t expecting.

I like the changes you suggest although I don’t hate the factory design. We currently have a 2015 Limited Elantra. Been very happy with it. Never any problem with it in over 55+K miles.

i was so surprised that your opinions are exactly opposite of mine or many koreans' i've seen so far. i think korean people tends to like side and rear view of this car but very polarized about the front. i bet it's quite a challenge to make every market around the world satisfied. thanks for the great video!

Oh, and I don't know if you noticed, but from the rear 3/4 view picture, you can clearly see a lot more Z patterns in the way the light plays on the cars bodylines. It feels extremely well thought out and shows that they went over every inch of this car making sure it was one cohesive design.

Love your videos SketchMonkey! I thought the thing on the side that bothered you would be the cheap plastic piece that initially looked like a fixed third window piece. Would look so much more upmarket if it was a third window. I guess like the front indicator it was about saving money. I hope you don't mind but I disagreed with your rear and side changes. I watched the Introduction of the Elantra a little while ago and I really new Elantra design as I like the very sharp geometric/triangular looking design and triangular design details. I really appreciate many of the exterior body styling, as well as, the very futuristic, cockpit interior styling!

Enjoy your videos . there's already enough going on at the front and rear of this design without any major mid -side design,however i would like to see the rear large tucked in bezel under the trunk lid carried straight down the side some distance. Please consider a redesign of the rear three quarter view of the Citroen SM...iv'e always wanted to flip the rear bumper upside down and move the number plate housing.

I like the look of it, is it polarising ? yes, but almost all cars were looking like they come from the same family tree for the past many years irrespective of the manufacturers and almost all " normal " cars were starting to look so boring and generic. I like that Hyundai designers weren't afraid to experiment and the engineers and upper management were pretty brave as well so it is thumbs up from me

Hmm weird I'm a designer myself and my fav part of the car is the side view Z line that you wanted to improve bc in the teaser that really stood out to me (it's really something new), also the rims of the tyre. I didn't mind it not being in the center as well bc it would look weird in the center. To each his own I guess :)

some changes I would have added to the front is removing that line that cuts in between the hood and breaks up the long sweeping lines of the hood and maybe trying integrating the logo into the front grille to fill up that empty black void

The IVT in the Elantra “shifts” similar to a regular automatic when you pin it, and works in “CVT” mode in normal driving. It’s quite great in my 2019 Elantra. Best of both worlds.

Good job saving the design theme. Now it looks more decisive, and less like a random scar. I think certain C-pillar angles they reflected upon the Accord, especially incorporating the wheels. But boy, the side looked kinda stupid, like it’s wrecked lmao 😂😂

I like geometric angular forms. This design appealed to me immediately. The side design works for me because I think there is a linear tension at the intersection. The change offered seemed to me to blend to every other smooth sheet metal. The rear end recommendation I agree just too many horizontal lines. The change made interesting detail. When I buy a car it's usually the ass end that sells me. The front turn signal is a simple fix in next year's refresh. I really liked the critique of the car.

Have you talked about the Hyundai Sonata? I like the 2020 model, it's much cleaner than the Elantra but my absolute favorite part is the trim around the windows extends across the hood and connects with the headlight LEDs. The Elantra have a similar line but without the trim though.

Couldn't agree more with you. The sides is the only my biggest concern about the design and your redesign work honestly looks more appropriate, accentuate on what seems like an arrow profile makes the car looks moving forward even when standstill. But overall, kudos for Hyundai for their courage to outdone themselves for every new releases. Risky but damn well respectable especially in this era where most carmakers tends to stick with what works with them ...

I’m not someone who has much interest in cars. However I am considering buying this one when it comes out in October. So I am interested in what everyone has to say in reviewing both the specs and the appearance of the car. I enjoyed your video and found the design changes you made to be interesting, but in the end I liked the car, both the sideview and the rearview the way Hyundai designed them. I think you could improve the video by writing a script. You seemed to take quite a long time in the beginning to tell the view were what you were going to do instead of getting right into a review of the car. This lasted for about 4 1/2 minutes, which made it a little difficult to watch. Again nine minutes in you were still saying that you were going to talk about the Sideview of the car and hadn’t gotten to it yet. Other than that I found it to be a very good video.

I actually really like the Z pattern on the side. Hyundai is really shaking the industry right now and I love it. I think moving the intersecting point to almost the front fender was a good call on your end though, because it really does make the car look like it's always moving forward and I think that is a great detail to have for the car. I think forward momentum could be a great design language for the Hyundai brand. I am still waiting for them to bring back the Tiburon and Genesis Coupe though. :/

Because of the decades of conditioning, any design that deviates from the norm will be polarizing. However, love the fact that they have done major sculpting on the side view, rather than keeping it plain, like in other cars. But l wish that triangle on the side extended to the front wheel. However, the Koreans seem to be leading in design innovations.

I would think that it's actually more expensive to add another light, albeit a cheap incandescent one, than it is to have the turn signal integrated into the headlight housing. An easy fix is to just have the white led drl become the amber led turn signal. How is that more expensive than adding separate light housings with electrical wires running to them?
