Very nice clear review. My wife and I bought a Civic Hatch, sport touring (in the U.S.). The safety (physical & tech), extra space, overall utility, handling, power and looks were decisive. It also has a certain fun factor. We take the occasional long road trip so extra luggage and leg room is important. We keep our cars a long time so the cost is effectively spread out over years. We've owned Toyota, Hyundai and others, but this is the first Honda. So far we're totally loving it. It's just a really nice car. The Civic Hatch is an IIHS top safety pick+. That's huge and was our #1 consideration in buying it. A bit surprising this key fact is not in your review. Oh - and another factor for us: it's NOT an SUV! We didn't like Kona or Corolla Cross ALSO: in our area Honda was one of the few dealers not demanding some $5,000 or more in markup over MSRP. That really changes the equation.

I'm surprised everyone's leaning towards Civic I just bought a brand new Corolla hatchback for specific reasons it did not have a turbo you don't want that it makes your car less reliable the Toyota also got a higher fuel rating as well as it is more compact which is what I want the Civic is now a big sedan not cool that's the whole reason you're buying this type of vehicle is for the reliability and high fuel mileage if you guys want turbos and horsepower with handling performance why not just buy a Corvette then when your turbo blows out take out a loan to get it fixed

This is a bit of an apples to oranges comparison. The Civic is bigger (7 inches longer and almost an inch wider) and more expensive and is pretty much an Accord except in name. The Corolla Hatch is a "world car" that's smaller than either the Mazda3 or the Impreza. These aren't cars people are likely to cross-shop anymore; the Toyota is what it's always been but the Civic is really a mid-sized sports-tourer.
@the-truth-hurts3 жыл бұрын
You're correct on the length: 179" vs. 172" but the width of these 2 cars is exactly the same. I just got this Civic Hatch last month. If I could shave a few inches off the front end that would make it that much easier to park. Your point that it's hard to make this comparison has some truth to it. This generation Civic was hit with a serious ugly stick imo, though the hatchback version has a much more attractive rear end compared to the sedan, but it's still generic looking. The Corolla hatchback looks far more interesting/sporty and if you add to that the fact it's made in Japan the choice becomes easy for me. As far as interior, I don't like that tacky honeycomb mesh strip that runs across the Civic's dashboard and find it out of character with the rest of the tastefully understated interior. Moreover, CR had a lukewarm review of the new Civic calling it less refined and rougher riding than the previous gen, though I'd have to decide for myself via a test drive when it comes time to replace my current car. Why the Mazda 3 over the Toyota Corolla? I don't care about Honda as it is made in the USA and is butt ugly.🤢🤮and overpriced🤑.

@@microminiskirt the new civic looks great imho. And mazda for better tranny and interior plus equal reliability

@@kylenewberry2598 Thanks for that info. I will look into the Mazda 3. I don't know much about these cars as I was born and raised on 10 MPG V8 cars . I know the Mazda Miata is made in Japan and my brother has one but it's just too small and impractical for me to make those Costco Club runs. I need Cargo space with seats that fold down. I don't drive people around so rear seat space doesn't matter to me. What does matter to me of significant importance is just cargo space as long as seats fold down. The reason I liked the Corolla was it was a hatchback with sporty styling and was available with a 6 spd. manual for FUN driving with what little engine it had with 4 cylinders but now I understand the 6 spd. manual is no longer available on all Toytota Corollas across the board for remainder of 2022 and 2023. So Goodbye Toyota.

@@microminiskirt yeah the shifter will be better in her mazda as well as suspension. But you can only get the stick in a top trim on the 3.

@@kylenewberry2598 Makes me wonder what the price is on this Mazda 3? I will have to check it out and I need cargo space not people space. Will the Mazda 3 be as reliable and low cost maintenance like the Toyota brand Corolla? How is the performance on the Mazda 3 with stick shift manual?

Base model civic is about the same price of a fully loaded Corolla! I'll go with the corolla all day. Honda is going nuts with the pricing of this thing.

Let's hope Honda sales goes down or else otber car manufacturers will raise price also if Honda is still selling alot

Try and buy a new Civic. I was interested in a Sport trim with manual transmission and my local dealer wanted $3K over MSRP for it. What thieves.

Civic hatch in previous gen look so much better. Corolla look too plane inside. New civic price is more like accord now

I think at one point they were both basic transportation. The civic is no longer that……and is much more car than the Toyota. Interior quality is much better on Honda, so it should be more $$

The Corolla is SO cramped and the cargo volume is laughable, compared to the Civic. This isn’t even close in my opinion. The Honda is the clear winner.
@microminiskirt2 жыл бұрын
Of course it's a higher end and higher pricedlarger vehicle but is BUTT ugly in my eyes. Honda Civic is not in the same category as the economy car Corolla. The Honda Civic is a step up and above the Corolla that's why it costs more 🤑

ill pick the honda hatchback but its should not be price more than the sedan version.
