How far do you go before getting your motor serviced, if it's as noisy as this one it's time to get it repaired or replaced. Don' t forget always contact your dealer for advice before doing anything with your motor.
(UPDATE) watch the motor tear down to see whats king of damage there is inside this motor. Subscribe to be notified.

Can't you change the cones and bracing track? if not that sucks. but cartridge bearings would be better then. as you can swap them and hub is back to good performance.I am guess it's a Shimano cup and cone hub. What did you mena by bearings are black? do you mean the grease turned black? some times bearing track and bearings looks fine but the cones are ruined, I worked on a bike recently that had that, cone was indexed, but everything inside and the balls looked good.

Hi Mr Yorkshireman. Always very clear with your videos that we can understand what your explaining.👍 Here’s a silly question that I know you’ll be able to answer. Are brands of Electric motors interchangeable?

Hi Raymond. Thanks for watching. no they are not interchangeable i'm afraid.

My gen 3 CX Bosch sounded just like that before it was replaced under warranty. I had ridden it through the floods in 2019 and then sold it on. My 2021 Gen 4 hasn't been a bit of trouble in 2'800 miles.

@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic I'm pleased they do Dave; my point was that the Gen 4 is much more reliable than the Gen 3 unless you know different. My lad has a Vitus Sommet with the EP8 motor, which also seems reliable, he hasn't done anything like the mileage I've done, so time will tell.

This is very common for a mid drive e-bike; they're very very very hard on the drive train, requiring service more often. It's one advantage of a hub drive - the drive train is solely human powered, so the wear and tear is at usual routine maintenance intervals. (and if you have a direct drive hub motor they can be amazingly quiet)
@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic

Hi, thanks for watching, true but rear wheels, spokes and rims need to be of high quality and high spoke tension, otherwise the torque destabilises the wheel.
@matt45540
@matt45540 6 ай бұрын
Not to mention the torque delivery is entirely different. I wouldn't buy a rear hub mountain bike to go ride mountains. But I live on a flat island and have one on a cargo commuter bike. The mid drive is a game changer climbing

my 2014 bosch performance motor had over 10,000 miles on it and it still worked but the transfer gear was at the end of its life but has been serviced buy peter to keep going and now have a gen2 cx motor with kiox and new 500w batt but the only original parts are the frame front sus brakes and the ses haibike wheel tho its had about 30 bearings in it as they get binned as soon as they make a noise.

If it needs a new motor and a basket of other parts (chain, derailleur, fork overhaul, cables, brake rotors etc, etc) then we might say it is not worth repairing.. No point in putting £1000 plus into a 5 year old, dated ebike that isn't even probably worth £1000.. But I'm sure Dave will give an honest review/estimate to the customer beforehand...

A couple of things they neglect to tell you about owning an eMTB: #1 It can be very addictive and you may ride it A LOT #2 eMTBs wear out parts like CRAZY. Get used to tearing apart bearings, cassettes, chains, tyres, spokes, derailleurs, air cans and especially brakes and brake bleeds. I get my fork serviced by pros. 😉

To what exent would it be worth fixing up a bike like this and at what point would you advise the customer that it might be better just to chuck it get a new one? I mean, 700 quid for a new motor potentially, a new wheel build (not cheap either), all the other bits and pieces, and you didn't mention the battery, because if he or she is sitting on the original one, there can't be much useful life left in that. Add it all up and you might have about half of what you need for new e-bike. Don't get me wrong, I love restoring and renovating old bikes myself, its just the financial consideration here, especially if you're having all done in a shop.
