I really loved this drama, it was such a sweet break from the heavier things. I think it’s one I’ll go back to for comfort later - I also love how we got a substantial ending to chew on. I think there’s just something really lovely about getting to see life after the wedding for a couple, seeing the family grow etc. In so many dramas we don’t even get to see a wedding, we just see the couple come back together right at the very end and it’s almost a little too unsatisfying. I understand that you like a little more sour with your sweet, but if this show had that, I don’t think it would have given us such an ending. It’s really as you described - a cup of warm hot chocolate. I haven’t seen Dear Ancestor so I might have to check that out.

Mr. Bad is a very heartwarming TV play. More so, the Chemistry of the Main Characters/Lead Stars Shen Yue and Chen ZheYuan was awesome, admirable and lovable.. They portrayed their roles well and complement each other beautifully, as if their relationship is real. Kudos too, to the Director and the whole casts.

Each relationship in this drama is pretty believable and I might say realistic too. It could happen to anyone and doesn't really feel like it is forced one character and other character too interact (?)

I am new to Cdramas so this was my introduction to the leads. I thought they had amazing chemistry and I loved their dynamic. This was such a feel good show, I loved that some of the plot threads could have been dragged out to just add angst but the show doesn't do that and moves on from them rather quickly. Also appreciated the adoptive mother/daughter relationship being just as important as the romance.

This is a nice piece of fluff that keeps me entertained for a while. There was a Chinese series recently in which a girl jumped out of a manga, but I can't remember the drama's name. In My Girlfriend Is an Alien it's also the woman who comes into our world.

The comment about the guy time travelling is interesting. It's why I love Live Up To Your Name (kdrama) so much, because BOTH characters time travel. It creates a very pleasing symmetry. He initially comes from the past to her current day time, but then they both go back in time (and repeat that a few times lol). That worked so well because 1) they both get the Fish Out Of Water experience 2) it gives them better understanding of the other's misunderstandings and 3) they're both doctors and find out the possibilities & limitations of the other's time period.

I like Mr. Bad as well. It is a typical romcom that Shen Yue is very good at. Chen Zhe Yuan acted quite good. I first watched him in Our Secrets and felt that he did a good job in it. He has good potential to be an excellent actor. If you have not check out My Calorie Boy, I highly recommended because it is a heart warming, positive, and encouraging about friendships that grows into love relationship. Zhai Zi Lu did his best acting in this drama in compared to other dramas that he was in.

Somehow the talk about chuanyue from female character's POV reminded me a-ha's "Take on Me" MV released in 1985. Feels like the idea was more scifi like in the old Dr. Who and Star Trek.

I thought the same thing about the wedding scene! It's like you are attending the wedding of friends who are so moved that they seem to go "off their rehearsed lines" and just share their from the heart feelings. I was looking for a feel good, fluffy drama and this was perfect. Chen Zhe Yuan will be an actor to watch in the future.

I liked this too although I wanted the lead to be more of a fish out of water. He acculturated so well to contemporary times. The only drama other than Scarlet Heart that i can think of offhand where the woman stayed in the past was Faith.

Yes, this is the reason I dropped it but I keep wondering if the story will pan out different because I heard so many good things. But I really wanted to see him flounder like someone from another world. For example, the k-drama Heavenly Idol did an awesome job portraying how awkward it would be to be a powerful person from another world thrown into a world of iPhones and Twitter.

I don't remember well coz these are kinda old but in Faith 2012, Lee Minho comes to the future and then goes to the past with Kim Hee soo. Deserving of the name 2017 also had the ML travel to the future and then go back to the past with FL

In the popular “The Eternal Love” series, the modern girl time travels into the ancient guy’s world. He does travel for a short period of time to her modern world in the second drama but the majority of time is spent in his ancient world.

Every time I see these kind of plots I can't help but to remember "The Purple Rose of Cairo", also male lead coming into female lead's world. That movie had the perfect balance between sugar and sour. Nevertheless, I'd also enjoy Mr. Bad a lot.

I really enjoyed the drama but probably not one I would rewatch again. I agree the main leads aren’t the most memorable coupling, but their acting is quite good and acceptable. I would say my favourite part was actually finding out why the ml materialises and the sentiment behind it. Don’t want to give any more away, but certainly worth watching til the end.

Would love to see a drama where the FL comes to the future from the past. Someone with all the manners and repressed mindset of many centuries past, not the "early feminist/boss bitch" FL that has been present in so many of the period dramas recently. "Aaaahhh, I cannot show my legs, I will be dishonored and no one will want to marry me!"

步步惊心（Scarlet heart)才是我看过这类题材中最好的穿越剧。至少它给出我们一种思考，就是不论男女主如何相爱，他们的思想碰撞产生的火花多么迷人，但这就是最终的问题所在，现代思想与古代意志的差别足以毁灭一个人，在格格不入的背景中，让在思想上没有同类的“穿越者”所作所为不符合现实法则，从而让人生轨迹得到不一样的发展，这是富有戏剧性的，但同时也是注定的悲剧。而这类题材拍不好的原因是制作方总是把握不住古代人的思想特征，不肯深究我们与前人在想法上的差异，最终只能沦为披着古人人设的现代男女的爱情喜剧。

Wellllll...... one of my favourites, "Scarlet Heart Ryeo" (Moon Lovers) (Korean) its the girl going back in time. And in the Manga "Red River" and "Queen of the Nile" its the same. When I think of it, in "Lost in Austen" its also the woman going back in time. (Elizabeth Bennet goes to the future though in the same series if I remember correctly, but shes not the MC) Hmmm.... in "Kate and Leopold" its also the man going into the future (our world). I do think youre right. Most often its the historic MAN that goes to the future. Maybe its because it creates more of a contrast when its a man ? A fully grown woman with a "historically accurate mindset for her time", might not be as fun to "play with". Im not saying that to diss women of their past btw. It could be fun if one such NO NONSENSE ones met a " can of feminist light" from today, and they both clashed and talked with eachother. And which one had better selfconfidence. And no, Im not saying this to diss neither of them. ( actually Im kinda miffed at the "dressed modest" campaign youtube is on right now.if a guy wants to harass, he will do it REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU WEAR, in some places on earth, women still walk topless, its about the social climate around them, and how and what they are used to, NOT what women wear) "Theres that persons truth, that persons truth, and the real truth". Exploring that. On a more nonsensical note, I agree with Leopolds opinions on toasters. ; )

@@bellets3109 I would LOVE a believable live action version of that (Red River).....its SOOOOOO good, it has that really good matine-adventure "feel" to it. It even has a little of the "Barry Lyndon-meeting-your-ancestors-might-not-be-an-altogether-nice-pleasant-or-even-healthy"-experience to it. But in a "shojo" way. Its present in "Queen of the Nile too...."Daughter of the Nile" is a name for the same manga, its called both online, for some reason. The male character in that one.....is NOT a nice person. And thats putting it lightly.

Mr Queen is based on a chinese drama called Go Princess Go! (though they went above and beyond in the adaptation lol-- all they kept was the concept and they changed all the details/conflicts involved) if you like that concept though, Go Princess Go was an interesting watch :)

I needed the sugar sugar drama so badly when I watched it that I'll will rember this drama for a very long time. So a nontoxic relationship. I loved it. ❤ I just saw a few episodes of Hidden love before this one and I had to stop. It was terrible... So, I needed to see something good for once 😊

To be honest, I relate and agree 100% with what you said. I used to watch Latin American dramas and get frustrated because they were just TOO dramatic. Like 80-90% drama and only 10-20% fluff. But these days I find that the opposite also is dissatisfying. Many Chinese dramas have way too much fluff and not enough drama. From a consumer perspective, it's fun (sometimes you just want something light to distract you), but from an artistic POV, it's not really good writing. Good stories, characters and relationships evolve and go through stuff. It can't all be rainbows and unicorns haha I might give this one a try, but I validate the point :)

But I also hate drama for the sake of drama, like the "inherited illness" trope, where maybe someone will die, but you kind of know they won't, or the ever popular 2/3rd way seperation for the most random "I have to go abroad/die before getting reborn/lie about something instead communicating"... I prefer drama, where the broken glass is realistic or at least inbuilt into the story, not some left-field, out of character stuff.

If I have to choose between a drama too fluffy or too dramatic, I'll choose the former, but imo, a good quality drama that isn't just trying to be cheap entertainment will find the perfect balance.

There’s a K drama, Faith, where warrior goes to the present to get a doctor to save the queen. The plastic surgeon is a ditzy young woman who starts out being frightened & then crosses all kinds of taboos. Lee Min Ho is the warrior.

There's Unexpected, not a good drama tbh but the guy is a manga creator who gets swept into his own story and has to save the second fl/ villainess whom he originally killed in the end so he can go back

I know that you don't watch Korean dramas, but in case you have not seen it - I think you could really enjoy this time travel classic from 2012. It has Chinese remake as well, but it is really Korean version that might be one of the best time travels. Queen and I (or Queen In-hyun's Man). It can be found here on youtube with subtitles. That 60% 40% ratio you mentioned is there:)

Liked the video. Example, there this K-Drama called 'Scarlett Heart Goryeo' from 2016, which the female lead travels back to the Goryeo Dynasty (Old Korea) and get to interact with the male lead. The dynamics are very peculiar because of the custom from each era. To see those and other Palace stuff being contrasted is very good.

Personally I'm not a fan of CZY acting, and a capable director can make a world of difference to their acting. Take a look at Dylan Wang, a good director is more important than a producer That said, I think CZY best acting was from his his previous drama with Rainbow Meng Jie. His acting was impeccable and expressive with his eyes, but also the director knew what and how an actor should articulate and express through the acting expression, gestures, the eyes and how a particular scene should be filmed, u clouding the types of angles and shots

I appreciate your thoughts on this, but I am finding Mr. Bad to be really tedious after watching 18 episodes. It's not nearly as interesting as "Dear Diary" (My Babylonian Prince Arrives) with its captivating characters, especially the imperious Dragon Lady, the ancient times princess who moves through the modern world like a wrecking ball. The female lead's growth as a woman also set " My Diary" as vastly superior to Shen Yue's immature 22 year old who still wants to sleep in her step-mom's bed. The other two couples in "My Diary" were also memorable, unlike the dull duo in "Mr. Bad." I will watch the rest of Mr. Bad mostly out of curiosity, but again, I am prepared to file this under "Pretty Much a Waste of Time."
