hassam Kkkk Rickson woulda beat him badly. Ricksons entire style was predicated in defending strikes and getting his opponent to the ground. Bas has admitted his take down defense wasn’t that great. Frank and Ken shamrock to him down like it was nothing. If he got down and rolled with rickson rickson woulda strangled him like it was nothing. Bas is a bad ass. No doubt one of the greatest. But rickson is probably the greatest jiu-jitsu practitioner in the history of mma and jiu jitsu in general. It woulda been a cake walk for rickson. It’s easy to diss on the Gracie’s but rickson is above that shit. Bas woulda just been another notch in his belt.

I'm not impressed by Rickson's MMA career, so why not. Bas had a true high level MMA career, while Rickson beat some guys either not good (for high level standards) or specialists of the ground.

are you out of your mind? Bas got mounted numerous times, you get mounted by Rickson and it's the endo of it. Even though at the end of his carreer Bas was much better on the ground still he was no much for Rickson and Bas never really had any wrestling defense.

dichaos Bas' ground game evolved tremendously throughout the years. He got mounted so many times, but that's his game and his escaping skills are unbelievable. Bas vs. Rickson would have been an awesome fight. Why didn't he take the fight? Who knows? Could be that the money offered wasn't good enough. Sounds silly, but it's easy to take advantage of a fighter who has been challenged in public - they don't want to look like cowards and so promoters can offer them shitty money. Could also be that Rickson had other things in his life that were higher priority than dropping everything and going on a training camp for several months. Whatever the reason, Rickson never took the fight so we will never know. But one thing is for sure, Bas was a monster at the time and it would have been silly to count him out.

even though Bas is a legend, he would be taken down, mounted and submitted. Anyone who rolled with Rickson said he is a beast. As for the Sakuraba fight, all I know is that his son died when they were talking about making the fight.... and he quit fighting, I suggest you go meet some of the old school Carlson Gracie guys, you know, the Nogueiras, Vitor Belfort, Perdeneiras, Bustamante etc and ask them storied about Rickson... When Rickson fought Funaki he was 42 years old.

@@eskiltester3913 Indeed, especially since Bas didn't have too much knowledge of the ground game at that time. But to be honest Bas hits and kicks so hard that Rickson would have had a very, very difficult time taking him down. Bas would probably study Gracie and time a knee, a kick or a uppercut against any takedown attempt from Rickson. Bas was and is still a very intelligent and clever martial artist.

@@eskiltester3913 If it was pure grappling then yeah, Rickson all day. But in the old school mma it would have been legal for Bas to stomp, knee and soccer kick Gracie all day. So Rickson couldn't have pulled guard as easily. He would have had to take Bas down. And I think Bas would have punches or kicked Rickson so hard that coming that close would have been very difficult for Rickson. Rickson is a legend, but he isn't a khabib style wrestler so taking Bas down would have been difficult because Bas knew already about the danger of the ground game and he wouldn't have been underestimating Rickson like so many other did.

all of this is from his career DVD, the last 2 fights on the dvd where highly edited down from UFC, both fights were over 15mins long and UFC shortened them down to 5mins each so there was a lot missing.

Hm, I don't agree. While Bas was always relatively easy to take down, he was an awesome bottom grappler. IN an interview with Joe Rogan he said he would always focus more on his ground game than striking because he knew it was his weakness. Add in that he had devastating striking power and prowess, even from awkward positions, you might want to reconsider your statement. I don't say he would destroy Rickson (back then) but the fight would've been even.

vhollund A ten count or unless the ref decided you were unfit to continue just like in boxing. There were also five rope escapes available that accumulated to lost points if you went the distance for a decision and even though strikes on the ground were allowed, they were frowned upon and therefore you rarely see them. The rules were wacky because mma was still in its infancy and the federation had its roots in worked professional shoot wrestling.
