Onimusha Theory - What exactly is the Fallen Angel?

While I was still working on my Timeline video, I got into a conversation with others within the Onimusha community about the Fallen Angel. In passing, I threw out an at-the-time idea about the weapon's potential canonical origin, and they seemed to like the idea, so I began to expand on it until it resulted in this.
I have one or two other Onimusha-related theories, and would very much like to hear any more, so feel free to let me know what you have in mind!

Appreciate it! I still have one more theory in the works that I'm surprised I never caught on to earlier. But yeah, for something so out of place, it's so odd that we never had any sort of hidden note about it, or perhaps even a work order within the facility that mentions it as perhaps a side project since the Trees/Dark Stones were the main priority

That was an interesting theory! I hadn't ever gotten the Fallen Angel before watching Murad share how to get it. It's weight kept me from wanting to use it, though. It was only gotten for the sake of 100% completing the game. Thank you for the awesome video!

Just found this trying to look for onimusha content.(really underated series). The theory sounds good and fits. The only other theories I can add is that is actually the real Bishamon sword but either: A)The genma power corrupted it and became a shell of it's former self. Or B)Samanosuke actually sealed it and what we saw is the only power that the Genma managed to unlock.

Now THIS kinda puts my mind to ease because when i got this weapon i was actually disappointment to see such a legendary weapon acquired if you really got what it takes only to be reduced to some random enemy loot and it didn't felt like the bishamon sword. If anything the sword feels like a poor replica and funny enough i guess this theory actually does makes sense and matches with my feelings too and that description Still a shame you couldn't get the real one but hey atleast Genma Samonji/Gokumonji is legit and isn't a replica as it still retains its status as the ultimate legendary weapon.

Bishamon sword, the Master sword of the Onimusha universe. The original, unbroken, and all powerful. The remake, broken, a "cheap copy" while the original is unattainable in a place unreachable. Makes sense, but my own theory is the ONLY wielder of the blade LIKE THE MASTER SWORD. Is Samanosuke Akechi. The wielder of the oni gauntlet, the ORIGINAL power of three souls hence the orbs in the blade. The power lost in Demon siege are as, Raizen, Shippuu, Enryuu. All Elements of creation and destruction. Yet only one may wield it, just like one of the teaser trailers back then for Demon siege. Samanosuke pulls the blade once again from its pedestal, unlocking the white orb of only true Onimusha given directly from the Oni Ogres. This also relates to the point that, Samanosuke is also a hero of time, no matter what timeline he came from (even when his other self died and absorbed his power AFTER he obtains it INGAME) the power of the Bishamon sword still responds, and Only to him. A hero born of the power of a god, does not need the blade of power created from ones to achieve his goals. Hence Soki's own potential power within endgame. The gauntlet against Fortinbras in DoD awakened his inner powers to surpass even the Bishamon sword itself, once that power is drained, soki's godhood had already started and ended when he finally fought the real Fortinbras. The opposite of his own namesake, the God of Light. In a twist of fate, Darkness is what was needed to purge the blinding light to create a shadow of lights former self. Soki himself was a weapon, Not that he needed one. So the blade itself did not respond to him nor heed him unlike it would to samanosuke. Thats just my take on it after playing all 4 (+1 BW lol) games thats just my understanding of it. I bet you that not even Jubei would be able to make the Bishamon sword respond to him, being born of demon and human as well. Even though being quite stronger than Samanosuke (Lets be honest) he would not be able to use the blade.

I would have to disagree on the idea that only Samanosuke could ever use the Bishamon Sword for a number of reasons. For one, Samanosuke is not the only one who's ever wielded a gauntlet, and while the other gauntlet we've seen, that being Jacques', used rings instead of orbs, we know for certain that at least 2 others have wielded similar gauntlets to Samanosuke, those being Sougen Osho and Murokoto. While the true nature of Sougen's Oni strength isn't fully known, Murokoto is known to have been awarded Shippuu by the Oni, one of the 3 orbs potentially connected to the Bishamon Sword, which then fell into Genma hands after Guildenstern's ambush at the Cave of Treachery. This may not mean much on it's own, but given that the Bishamon Sword was known and feared by the Genma, it was clearly used during the Onin War since they were willing to co-seal it with the Oni. Since not one warrior is known to have held all 3 orbs during the Onin War, and Murokoto was known to have only had one, it can be assumed that one would not need to, especially considering that if that were the case, then there would be no need to seal the Sword since it wouldn't respond to anyone without those orbs otherwise, or the Orbs themselves would have been sealed in a similar fashion instead of being left in easily accessible places. Both the Oni and the Genma feared this blade, so it's obviously possible for anyone to use it. I would personally argue that Samanosuke recovering his Oni weapons after Demon Siege is also non-canon since 2 of them become available to Soki at various points in DoD, and yet Samanosuke could still wield the Sword without them. Sure, maybe the gauntlet had already absorbed their power, except that had been clearly drained too. As for the likes of Jubei being unable to wield it, I would also disagree for many of the same reasons. However, he was not born of a demon. Jubei's mother, Takajo, was a pure-blooded Oni, making Jubei an Oni-human hybrid, which is why he is able to absorb Genma souls, utilise Oni weapons, and become a True Onimusha without the use of a gauntlet. The gauntlet exists to grant Oni power to those who otherwise have none, but due to his Oni blood, Jubei already has that power, so he has no need of a gauntlet

@@Nelo_Wolf On top of it being Jubei's first time facing Nobunaga, meaning he wasn't really that aware of Guildenstern's ability to raise him, this was before it was decided that sealing him was necessary. Both Samanosuke and Jubei faced him again during Blade Warriors, yet neither of them thought to seal him since they hadn't come to the conclusion that it was their only option at that point. It was only during Demon Siege that Samanosuke realised that it was the only way to ensure he never returns, even with Guildenstern's death

Glad to see Onimusha getting some love. I don't see many channels talking about this. Onimusha is what got me into samurai games. I love Onimusha so much. I go back and still play those games even today. Great video man.

Gettimg the Bishamon Sword raises your Onimusha Sword's level to Max automatically. The Onimusha Sword's level is determined by how many times you've upgraded Samanosuke's weapons, with it gaining a level for every upgrade, meaning it can range from a minimum of Level 3 (since upgrading Tenso and Kuga to Level 2 each is mandatory to progress) and Maximum of Level 7. The original 3 Oni weapons have no effect on the Onimusha Sword's level, and obtaining the Bishamon Sword is the only way to raise it to Max

Not so certain considering the double-bladed Shippuu appeared afterwards in Demon Siege. Honestly, I think Capcom just didn't really care to add them in, or perhaps they would appear as weapons for Tenkai, which would mean that they'd need more weapoms for everyone else to keep it balanced, which they didn't have

"Onimusha" literally translates into Oni Warrior, though the game series itself tends to use these terms seperately, with Onimisha being the name for the powerful transformation, while Oni Warrior is usually the term used for characters that are gifted Oni magic to fight the Genma

Ide like to add on too mr penguins explination that oni translates to oger i do believe. And in traditional japanese folklore oni or ogers were large buff brootish supernatural creatures that often wore tiger skins and carried clubs. The onimusha games loosly takes this folklore and flips it around, in this universe the Oni or clan of supernatural oger people were a force for good that would wage war against deamons. And the onimusha i believe are their chosen or blessed warriors that were given the gift to weild their magical powers.

Not really. I mostly put my own timelime together from a mix of ingame events, obtainable documents, and a bunch of context clues. There are a couple of mangas that show events between Demon Siege and Dawn of Dreams, but nothing that outright details everything

My personal assumption is that if it's doing ehat Dragon's Dogma did, we could possibly get a new game, which if it performs well, could lead to rereleases, but Dragon's Dogma had no games to rerelease so we could get rereleases first. But while that would be cheaper in theory, that fails to take into consideration that both Onimusha 2 and 3 have multiple likenesses that are used, meaning there'd be increased costs in releasing them. In the end, it's impossible to say

The Fallen Angel is an extremely rare drop from the Blue Genma Generals. The Balmunk is a rare drop from the Dark Genma Generals and the Dainsleif is a rare drop from the Dordo (Genma with spinning drill sword). Expect to spend a lot of time grinding for these weapons. I've spent multiple hours just trying to get one of them

In terms of weapon strength, Balmunk is 2nd best, while Excalibur actually ties with Anguish for 3rd, though Anguish does drop your defence, so I'd still say that Excalibur is 3rd while Anguish is 4th
