New additions were added to the remake are two secret bosses, a warp pipe zone room that fixes most of the backtracking, two new badges with nostalgic tunes and gold medal badge, art and sound galleries, battle master toad, partner ring to switch to your primary partners easier, 3 new recipe items, 100 coins reward when defeating a boss, boo’s quizzes at the one room in Creepy Steeple, and a hint system so that you won’t get lost on what’s your next goal.

Totally agreed with the music. I already beat the game 100% and booted up a second file to try and play with the original tracks, but they did such a phenomenal job that I don’t think I can go back, especially with the battle themes. The original battle track is so repetitive whereas the orchestration in the newer rendition elevates the experience so much so.

The new renditions of the battle theme end up being a much bigger deal than I initially realized, especially living with someone who gets annoyed at RPG battle themes very quickly due to how often they play.

The original Thousand Year Door was my second ever Paper Mario game (with Sticker Star being the first, how’s that for whiplash?). While I can’t play the remake (no Switch), it’s still very pleasing to hear people say good things about it. Vivian was always my favorite partner in the game (before even knowing more about her deal), so it’s nice seeing some good representation with her. I’m also looking forward to how the success of this remake will affect the future of Paper Mario, not in the least in terms of originality/creativity.

I'm a trans man, not a trans woman, but Vivian's trans identity being kept really helped me a lot. I cried literal tears of joy when it was revealed that they kept Vivian as trans. :)

I'm actually slightly older than TTYD is, so I've grown up with it my entire life, and love the thing to bits. It took be like... Less than a week to 100% it basically entirely blind, minus the cooking stuff because... I was never gonna find any of that shit out. Anywho, to my actual point, I never gave any real shits if Vivian was trans, little 5 year old me cared that she was a cool shadow lady with fire powers, and that's all I needed, and as I grew up and became aware of that discourse I never really thought on it too much. But thinking it over on the time before the games release, I figured it honestly worked either way. The otokonoko route is fine with me, because like... We have like no modern stories that tell me they're allowed to be feminine in any way without it being a net negative or making them gay or trans, and that could have been a pretty interesting story, saying that mean should allow themselves to have moments or even core parts of themselves that are traditionally viewed as feminine, and still be a man or manly in one form or another As for the trans side of things, well... The stories the one we got, so you already know what they'd do there. Politics aside, id wished they'd been a bit more clear with what's going on, because you could just as easily say she was a tomboy or something and it changes basically nothing, but eh. Honestly, either route is better then the water with no ice story the English version got before, where it was all the boring parts of Cinderella but with a fire witch, how you make something as interesting as "fire witch with gender issues" boring I have no clue, but they found a way. And as a final note.... We can have trans vivian, Mario taking part in drug deals, gang violence, Joline asking for a magazine for "research," and HD naked princess peach... But no goombas sexual harassment? 0/10 game, wouldn't even pirate it.

I'm of the mindset that: in an era where there is so much hate directed at trans people, where representation has historically been limited, and typically negative or inaccurate, it's more meaningful to have trans characters and tell their stories in a more positive light. Trans stories don't trample on or replace stories of cisgender people who are nonconforming. If anything, acceptance breeds more stories about characters breaking gender norms, whether trans or not. I can think of many examples from my childhood of non trans characters learning to embrace femininity, stuff like the Kyoshi Island episode of Avatar, quite a few episodes of Fairly Oddparents, and Mulan, just to name a few. Vivian being trans was always the original intention with the character, despite the limited understanding of trans people that existed at the time the game released, and the language used at the time. The fact that Intelligent Systems updated their language in the Japanese version of the remake too just further proves that, so this isn't a case of a trans character replacing a femboy or "otokonoko."

@@ZillennialRosa First, hey, hope you're well. Glad ya didn't just yell or anything, always nice to have a little conversation about these sorts of things. Also nice seeing a KZbinr take time to chat with viewers. Anywho, to the actual point. My stance is more or less: do whatever so long as it's entertaining. Differing ideologies makes us focus on differing segments of a story, but I personally don't put much stock in that sort of thing unless the story tells me it's important. Just because a black man shows up in a story doesn't mean I'm going to clap like a seal for it, but you give me a Barret or Chad from bleach and now we cookin'. People want different things, and "representation" has never been something that interested me personally, but it is a bit silly to tell someone they're enjoying entertainment wrong if they do want that, so I can't really begrudge people who want that. As for Vivian herself, yeah, after all of the re-reading and looking into different languages, it's hard to argue otherwise. Like I said, I just wish things were a tad clearer and that they did some more. Definitely don't flaunt it, this is a kids game, but at least in the English version it's kinda hard to tell what's being said even with proper knowledge of the issue, for a bit there I honestly thought they might have gone back on the trans thing until I re-read the lines like three times. As for the feminine man thing, I kinda dunno if most of those count as modern anymore, tho I'd agree with some of it. Mulan is more about accepting differences and learning when to use them, but no matter what we should all march together since at the end of the day we're all human. The Kyoshi stuff is prolly a bit closer, but even then that's more just there to challenge Saka's sexism than any bits of femininity he in particular has. What I'm trying to say more is that we don't really have too many stories where the dude being feminine isn't just a gag or a hindrance but actually helpful or even just part of who they are. A character that looks and/or feminine and enjoys girly stuff but whole heartedly believes they're a man and acts as such when things get rough, being quick to protect and fix, maybe even fight. We ain't got too much of that as far as I know.

It can when there are a lot of platforming sections and attacks based on frame perfect timing. For the most part in this game's case it winds up not being much of an issue, at least for me.

30fps? Buy the game for your switch, then dump/download the game online for your switch emulator. Run the game at 60fps and 1440p ultrawide if you want. It runs beautifully. If you have the pc for it, ig. My pc is 8 years old rn, with a slight cpu and gpu upgrade a couple years ago

Imo the only bad side effect of it being 30fps is that power bounce had to be nerfed weirdly, with jump 4 being frame perfect and then it goes back to more lenient timings and then back to frame perfect again later.

@@AdaTheWatcher Yeah, but the old coding wouldn't of worked because once it starts to be frame perfects for every next jump, it would be way easier due to frames being twice as long. So that would of buffed it by making it twice as easy long term.
