Just what I tell anybody who wants to get fit and join a gym . Start with exercises you like keep it simple ,keep your body hungry is the best analogy I've heard so far. I am 72 years old I do not go to a gym , have a small gym at home and sometimes I wake up at 2am and do what ever exercise I feel like doing.35 years doing that.

I once watched a Tony Robbins segment where he asked the crowd something along the lines of "who thinks health and fitness is important, raise your hand" and most of the hands in the room went up. He then said "OK, now stand up and show me, prove to me that health and fitness really is important to you!" and not many people were willing to stand up and just one guy willing to show off his abs. This really stuck with me. Many people say something is important to them but if it truly is important there will be clear evidence of it. If health and fitness is important to you, generally you will look healthy and fit. If not, it probably isn't really that important to you. After all, most of us have a certain standard concerning the way a fitness coach should look before we sign on. SHOW people that fitness is important to you without saying a word and let their words confirm your success.

Staying consistent is the hardest part. Eat cleaner/less. Weight training Mon, Wed, Fri split to hit every muscle group. HIIT Tues, Thurs with weighted jump rope mixed w/ body weight excercises. On the weekend simply live life and look to mix in active things like walking outside, hike, yardwork, kayak, get yourself outdoors if the weather permits.

I''m 52 now and this video is just what I wanted. I am average or below average 167 cms and 77kg now. I have been 97 kg at age 40 and worked my way up - err down to 68 by running alone in 2 years. Then I started martial arts and earned Taekwondo black belt in 4 years where I reduced steady state running, gained explosiveness but also added a bit of weight to mid 70 kg. Over the last 5 years I have been around 75 to 82 back and forth. I have built a bit more muscle in the last 2 years which is what I like but I want to get back to being low 70s and yet increase muscle mass and look jacked up like @Paul. He is just what I want to look like. I like everything I have seen on Paul's channel. Hope I take something on from this video and follow on Paul's footsteps/

Trained intensely and competed a few times for over 15 years, ran gear at the time...quit altogether for about 7 years. Had to have bicep tendon/rotator cuff surgery (they just tore bc of past repetitive use) and was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at 45 which laid me up quite a bit, especially bc of the meds i had to take and the resultant joint deformities. Went back to it clean and while Ill never be my earlier on/off season weight (237/217)... i lost 90 lbs of fat in 5 months and then in the subsequent 2 years put on 23 lbs of lean muscle at around 10-11% bodyfat at 50 years old. My weight went from 260 to 167 after fat loss phase then after the 2 years of lifting up to 190. I will say do not just cut fat without weight training..that was a mistake i got too skinny and looked sickly at 167. I had some lose skin from it too but it repaired from collagen and daily skin treatment. I will say at my age i do not ever feel excited and energized to workout beforehand. I have to FORCE myself to do so everyday, and my evenings are spent in pain. Joint pain, numbness in arms and legs, fatigue. I gotta lift smart so I dont seriously injure myself, bc one wrong move and Im done as i have spinal stenosis. I have to wear knee brace, elbow brace, back brace, shoulder brace, and a neck brace for each workout. That being said, when they told me 'no more bodybuilding' that was the catalyst for all of it. Let this be a lesson for you as to if you can do it at 50. Just...begin. And keep going. Every time I felt defeated or depressed or fearful I instilled a little voice in my head that simply says 'keep going,' and it quiets the doubts.

Great topic. You left out body weight exercises - calisthenics. I do resistance and body weight - I found body weight exercises to be harder than weight lifting. Have you ever seen a gymnast? They are jacked. Try pull ups, push ups, ring dips and all the variations then move up to levers, planches, hand stands -these are way harder than resistance training. Another thing about cycling; it can be dangerous since most of us ride on roads with cars and its easy to get hit by a vehicle or crash - often resulting in serious injury. Swimming is much safer and much less chance of injury. Thank you

This video is for people just starting out. Calisthenics isn't great for beginners as it takes a lot of skill. You said it yourself, calisthenics is way harder than resistance training. Most beginners can't even do one push up or pull up, so that's totally impractical. Whereas with resistance training you just need to start with very light weights and slowly progress. Simple. You do realise that you can cycle indoors, don't you? Most gyms have indoor bikes. This video is about making it as easy as possible to start as a beginner, and he's already said why swimming might not be optimal due to the time it takes to get ready.

I was 38 completely natural, 5 foot 10, 215-220. Always under 14% body fat, I bounced around that. Broke my leg, lost 30 pounds of muscle. I'm 43 trying to get it back. It's not easy. If your overweight and out of shape, fasted walking is best. Steady slow cardio burns fat. Fat ppl don't need to burn calories, they need to burn fat. Light strength training and nutrition is huge. Strength training ramps up thermogenesis and nutrition can put yiu in a deficit.

Here's a question. In 2020, I was 47 yrs old at 320 Ibs. Lost 170 Ibs by 2023. I achieved this cause I'm able to workout 3/4 hours a day, four+ days out of the week (I am retired). However, after doing this schedule for almost four years. I took a break, after achieving many goals, then one day. Almost out of nowhere, I get hit with a massive arthritis pain in both hands, fingers and wrist along with arthritis in my ankles. So bad, that I can't even close my fist. Can't hold dumbells or any other workout equipment without my fingers feeling like they're broken. So, now at 51, how can I get "jacked again" while suffering from arthritis. Any tips on foods or workouts. Thanks.

Protein and Creatine - when you are 50+, what is recommended? I hear mixed feedback on both. How much protein should we be eating per day? Thanks
@PaulSklarxfit2 ай бұрын
I always like to stick with the .75-1 g perpound of bodyweight. You may need more if you are exercising more vigorously using that formula. Creatine can be dosed between 2.5 and 5 g per day. Beyond muscle, it has been shown to be helpful for cognition as you get older.

If it were me, I'd prefer sprinting over jogging. Much safer on the joints, increase in HGH, full body fast twitch workout, burn fat for several hours after done, and I can get it done in 15 - 20 minutes. Add in the resistance training and it's a great formula for getting in shape.

Sprinting would be better than jogging. Sprints increase muscle mass and improve insulin resistance and toughen up body. Very efficient. Sprinting shocks the body into becoming fitter at the cellular level. It also will help boost metabolism and helps burn visceral fat. I agree that weight training is great, but why not mention sprinting or h.i.t?
