This happened in high school. It was November and the girl sitting behind me in French class tapped me on the shoulder to tell me that my dye job was really bad. I had NEVER dyed my hair. I actually had a natural ombré look going on, but it was the 1980s so that wasn't a thing yet.

This was year 6 school captain speeches. I gave my speech. Thought i did ok. This girl comes up to me. We knew of each other. As in we shared classes, but never were friends or shared friendship circles. She wasn't known as a mean girl but was considered relatively popular. She comes up and says " Wow, your speech was waaaaay better than I thought it was gonna be." Still can't tell to this day if it was an insult or a compliment.

Okay, but the first story is something I would do. I always say stuff then think "Dear gods, that came out WRONG". Or my brother, seems like he'd do that as well. (Gotta love ADHD.) And actually, I remember saying something kinda like this. A teacher told me to talk to a new girl in my class when I was in third grade. I had to ask her who she was because I was never good with names. I openly admitted that the teacher told me to talk to her, but we did become friends. (Then she stopped speaking to me lmao)

One time I was over at a friend's house, and we had been sitting in comfortable silence for a while. Suddenly, she pipes up with "I like it better when you don't talk". I looked at her, feeling upset at what she said. She blinked and then jumped up in alarm. "No, no, no! What I meant to say was, I like it when we're quiet! Its more comfy!" I brushed it off, but i still wonder if that was just a cover up.

tbh i don't think it was malicious. i was used to being alone as a kid, so i still prefer quiet or music playing in the background. fast forward to college and my closest friend is loud AF. i enjoy her loudness (most of the time) and appreciate her, but it's also rlly nice when you can be so comfortable w/ someone that you don't have to keep talking. there's no space to be filled, just blissful peace amongst friends. it's nice.

Okay about the last story, people like me who have autism tend to have a difficult time understanding social cues so we are more likely to accidentally say something offensive to someone when we don’t realize it and then become confused and embarrassed when someone explains that what we just said was offensive. I have autism and I feel like there have been plenty of times where I have accidentally said something to someone thinking I was being nice (or even as a neutral comment) only for that person to get angry at me.

I'm a pretty shy and introverted kid with social anxiety too, and in caretaker school I got literal angels sent from heaven as classmates. They always tried to include me cuz they realized I liked talking to them i just had trouble going up and starting the convo myself. This year, my panic attacks became so bad I hyperventilated in school, when I was alone in the dresser where we take our shoes off, and they all just took turns to look after me and calm me down. I never felt so loved in my family, the only best thing happening in that school was my class honestly.

In all fairness to the autism question, when you ask something that generic, unless you’ve helped us train our brain to understand that “GENERIC QUESTION” actually means “What specific flavors do you think go together on this cake” as an example, we can come up with all kinds of interpretations. I personally do not roast people, (at least not intentionally), but this kind of stuff does tend to happen by accident. All I can say is please be VERY specific. Go into detail! I need a lot of that!

2:24 is so true and it do be painful sometimes. When I was a kid, everytime I looked at the mirror I always adore my eyes and just focus on how I love my eyes. But when I was in 6th grade, a classmate jokingly told me that we should have a 'competition' of who has the biggest nose. At first I didn't understand but then I came to realize that they were saying I have a big nose. It became an insecurity for me ever since then and everytime I look at the mirror, I just look at my nose and wish it was smaller and pointed like everybody else's... Worst part is that classmate of mine probably has no idea that their joke became my biggest insecurity in life🤷♂️ Just want to remind everyone about the 10 second rule. If you know a person can't change something within 10 second then don't point it out. They might or might not know about it but always be careful if you ever want to point it out because you probably won't remember what you said that time, but the other party will have that stuck in their mind. :)

People would say straight up to my face that I talk so low. I got this comment all of the time. I would eventually go home and when I got to me room I would cry myself to sleep sometimes. I always thought it was a flaw or that there was something wrong with me because I couldn’t speak loud enough to where people could hear me. I always held back tears when I got that comment multiple times a day. Now, I still do that unless I’m talking with someone I’m really close and comfortable with, but every time I get that comment I hold back tears

Thanks to school and work, I’ve known people from all over the world and can say with confidence that the people most likely to call someone fat are the Brits and the Chinese. I can relate to you on that one but it happened when I was a junior in high school running some errands (giving papers to students who need to go to the office and stuff, we all take turns apparently and I dreaded it throughout the day) I walked into a senior class that was about to take their test because they sat single file. I gave the paper to their teacher and waited in front of the class in awkward silence, I could feel their eyes on me. I heard a dude whistle at me and a girl said "that's a boy" man my heart broke and I dashed out after that. There was a reason why I didn't want to walk into random class rooms running irrelevant errands. That stuck to me till now. When you're young you wouldn't really care what you look like till someone points out about something of you and it turns into a insecurity. It's sad having to focus on your looks then your education when you're around 13-15, well mostly in my school🙄

She turned to me and said, "When are you gonna date again because it seems you can't keep a man!" Her aunt scolded her, "Amy!" and was clearly embarrassed. We knocked on a door and an older lady maybe in her 40’s came out. She was smiling and seemed really nice. She looked at my friends outfit and started excitedly saying, “oh honey you look so good. So sexy. Wow.”. Very creepy that this grown woman was telling a high schooler how sexy she looked, but anyway. She turns to me and says, “you didn’t even try”. Very rude, and so unnecessary. I worked hard on that outfit, my friends was store bought and she just threw it on over her clothes.
