In defense of J.W. Dr. Wu did say in the first J.W. that if the dinos look like the orginally did, they wld have very different looking dinos. So they basically do admit that what they created was genetic monsters. Spin offs, for lack of a better term.

And ppl take the name J.P. to literal. There were dinos from all eras, but they need one short name. Triassic Park wldnt of caught. Clearly Michael Crichton tested some titles out and Jurassic Park caught. If i want accuracy, I'll watch a documentary. I watch movies to have fun.

The only reason they're called "velociraptors" in Jurassic Park is because of a discovery of a big raptor in Montana, they called it velociraptor antirhopus. It was a deinonychus.

In the Jurassic Park novel the portrayal of the Raptors were based on the research of John Ostrom's Deinonychus. In the novel Allen Grant acknowledges this however, Dr. Wu explains that the amber used to create the Raptors was discovered in Mongolia so they assumed it was a Velociraptor Mongoliensis. Steven Spielberg in preproduction did use the accurate name of Deinonychus but later changed it Velocirator for dramatic sounding reasons.

The thing is that Jurassic Park actually knows it's an inaccurate portrayal of Raptors. In the book for Jurrassic Park there is a longer section that explains why they look more reptile than bird. The movie has a scene for that but it's short and not very important so you don't have as long of an explanation.

@ashkebora7262

Yea, I don't get why people think scales make them scarier. I guess the always cool and disconnected nature of reptiles make them less relatable? Still... even seeing ostriches hassle someone is surprisingly intimidating. lol A proper meat eating predator would definitely be pants-shitting territory. Even if it was a turkey sized one. Sure, you might survive a 1v1, but I don't think the small ones hunted alone? It'd be like getting jumped by several cougers.

I looked it up and here is what it says because i was wondering that too: "Here be dragons" (hic sunt dracones in Latin) means dangerous or unexplored territories, in imitation of a medieval practice of putting illustrations of dragons, sea monsters and other mythological creatures on uncharted areas of maps where potential dangers were thought to exist.
