Jenna and I answer 20 questions in paddle format. Where will the ENFP/ESFP differences play out?
Please excuse the focus issues - we forgot to lock the focus on the camera but couldn't reshoot because this was the only footage of our authentic reactions. 😅

As a enfp it's funny hearing about the difference in energy... I can totally relate to spending hours talking about a subject that I'm interested in, and sharing my deep rabbit hole of theories and facts, but I would get bored after a hour or so at a dance if I wasn't talking to someone.

@@justjennaish I kinda did this at uni but I'm an INTJ. Though I don't think I'm that naturally messy (my XSFJ mother would definitely disagree...) and there were extraneous circumstances that were definitely preventing me from dealing with the mess. I know I had an organised mess but only really to do with clothing... and that was just to save time so I could focus on more important things. Heck, I remember I didn't have proper glasses or cups so I just used measuring jugs (which I think were meant to be used for like, washing up liquid or something - never used them for that. Never needed to) to drink out of. It worked. Oh, I used a glass jar to drink tea out of once (there were no mugs left in that flat so I improvised), that was fun and I got memed for it. At home though, I just chuck things in places or keep them close to hand (otherwise they're useless and I cba to get them) but generally it's pretty tidy.

This is great! I completely understand Jenna's unnecessary explanations after everything. I'm an ENFP and while this may not be a totally ENFP thing or applicable to ENFPs, I find that after I answer someone's question(s), I like to explain my thoughts or my answer so that you can see the reasoning behind it, or just so you can understand where I'm coming from. Sometimes though, it's simply thinking out loud XD (This comment is an example, I suppose!) Oh, and something I've noticed is that we ENFPs seem to look all around us when we're thinking. I dunno if that makes sense, but it's like we're looking around for things that'll help us complete our thought or we have to stare into space or something to be able to think better? XD

Yes, I find I have to qualify because I'm an 'out loud thinker'. I have to keep refining and shaping the thought aloud. This has more to do with accuracy than anything else - I want my thought to be expressed accurately so that when someone responds I know they've received the fully formed thought and are responding to something that accurately represents what I'm thinking. For some reason, I struggle to internalize this process. Brain wiring is interesting!

@@justjennaish Gahh. There's only so much I'm willing to say in public so excuse my brevity. Also, stopping the need to overexplain and the need to make sure nothing is ambiguous. Idek if this is an enfp thing, though.
@justjennaish
@justjennaish 3 жыл бұрын
@@december12twok12 Yes I totally understand the need for brevity (which is a little funny as my first sentence, given how long this comment is going to be). Thanks for elaborating nonetheless! I don't know many ENFP-specific places to get advice on this, but I'm sure they exist somewhere out there! I'll just pop some of my own reflections here (based on my own life experience) in case any of it is helpful. Please take it with a grain of salt as obviously I don't know you or your life circumstances. My own personal take is that firstly, who you are is beautiful and a gift to the world - don't lose sight of that. It's absolutely wonderful that you care about the people around you. At the same time, you cannot MAKE people happy, and you aren't responsible for other people's feelings. Once you really sit with yourself and internalize those two things, it will free you to love people and care about their feelings etc. without having to take all of their feelings on board as a burden for yourself. It might help you to depend less on the 'emotional climate' around you being a good one, because you'll realise how absolutely unpredictable and outside of your control that emotional climate is. And that's OK. You can still be kind and caring. Once you realise that other people's feelings aren't in any way your responsibility and they are not a reflection of you or your innate worth, it will be easier to set healthy boundaries for yourself in this area. It's also totally fine for life to be a bit messy and relationships to be difficult. It doesn't change the fact that you are wonderful and loved and worthy. Re: 'over explaining' and ambiguity. There is absolutely NOTHING WRONG with thinking out loud, speaking in tangents, or 'over explaining' in and of themselves. Nothing wrong at all. These are simply cognitive processes that a lot of people don't understand. If you have trouble accepting these parts of yourself, you might like to sit and examine the reason why, and see if anything needs addressing there. For example, have other people have made you feel 'little' because of these processes (maybe because they themselves don't understand how useful this 'thinking aloud' is for an ENFP?). At the root of it is a desire to communicate clearly, and the world needs people who communicate clearly! Obviously if you're dominating conversations, or not listening to other people, or not paying attention to other people, then yes these would be things to work on for sure (I still am working on many of these myself!) But the cognitive processes in themselves are totally normal and fine and healthy for an ENFP, imo. One more thing: you are clearly very self aware, and that's always the first step to changing any of our behaviours. If you have genuine reasons to change things about yourself (one good reason being growth towards goals like better mental health or personality integration) then you have the ability, the choice, and the power to change these things. It will always take time (especially if you're working against your cognitive wiring) but it's definitely possible, so just be suuuuper gentle and patient with yourself! You deserve the same kind of care and patience that you give everyone else. There is much more I'm sure I could say, and obviously all of the above is going to be affected by your own personality and life situation. I'm not sure what mental health services are available to you where you live but if things are really overwhelming and you are able to get help, that may also be a good avenue! Lots of love to you!

Jenna is the more unique independent-minded dreamer adventurer type. She reminds me of Ariel from The Little Mermaid. Ariel was willing to give up her voice and possessions to have legs. ENFPs not ESFPs would be willing to give up their voices for something they dreamed about having like legs. ESFPs could never nor would ever be able to give up their voices because their Se hero mixed with their Te child wants to know what everyone else is thinking thus needs to be able to communicate with others. ENFPs use their Ne mixed with their Te to figure out what other people must be thinking about. There is no need for ENFPs to talk to others to find out what they are thinking about when their Ne already put the pieces together for them.

@justjennaish
@justjennaish 3 жыл бұрын
On a closer look, I'm finding none of the Enneagram types describes me; simultaneously they all do. I think I prefer MBTI/Jungian functions because to me the description of cognitive wiring vs. behavioural analysis seems less.... deterministic? That being said, as mentioned above, I dont really know much about the enneagram system.
@marvjosh9454
@marvjosh9454 3 жыл бұрын
@@justjennaish Yeah, I totally get that. It took a few years for me to really become interested in enneagram. Before that, it had a spiritual vibe to it which I could not resonate with. Cognitive functions seem to have indeed a more concrete and practical sense to it (And have a higher testability/verifiability). Although I would not call the enneagram system deterministic. It is much more dynamic than it might appear on first look (wings, growth/stress, levels of development, instincts,...).The fact that you can find yourself in none/all types could be an indicator for a 6 or 9. 9s tend to really merge with others. But it can take quite some time to find your type. Well, that's it with my enneagram advertisement :D
@marvjosh9454
@marvjosh9454 3 жыл бұрын
Ok, just a short addition: I love how the combination of both MBTI and Enneagram can create a way more differentiated picture of one's personality. An ENFP 7w8 would be quite different from an ENFP 4w5 for example. While still using the same function stack, they don't have the same approach

why is she organized as an ENFP, could you please elaborate or suggest smth to help with that, like how to develop the Si?
@thomasdawe1837
@thomasdawe1837 Жыл бұрын
I wrote an in depth reply and accidentally clicked off. So I'll give (the ENFP version of) cliff notes, if something strikes a chord or doesn't make sense, happy to elaborate. - Not about improving Si, you use it naturally, but learning to feed it practical, sensory information instead of interesting ideas. Se is our weakest link so I would suggest observing SJs in your life, seeing how their habits and routines make their lives easier and considering how you could also benefit. - For organisation in terms of achieving goals and realizing our objectives, we will naturally do so via Te although we are not masterful with it. If we are not careful, getting lost in our own heads will create communication issues (the car question in the video was a funny example) that impede getting what we want, at our weakest we will disconnect from reality and try to use Te to logically justify assumptions. Working back from the conclusion. Again I will suggest observation, in this case how ESTJ and ENTJ Te doms implement practical and efficient solutions. If you are ever in the corporate world you will not lack for examples. - The reason I suggest observing is because this is one of the true, effortless strengths of NeFi - taking in information and possibilities, running it past yourself to assess compatibility and seeing parallels with your own strengths and weaknesses.
