I'm proud to see pierogi from my country to be made by American people. We serve them with fried onion and sour cream like you said. Pierogi can be also filled with sauerkraut and mushrooms and this is also a paradise in your mouth or with strawberries, pieces of apple inside or blueberries. Pierogi with fruits are served with sweet cream and taste extremely good

I remember when I was a child when my Mother would have her three sisters and my grandmother over to the house and make pierogis. There would be flour and elbows everywhere as they stood around the kitchen table assembling them. My favorite are the sauerkraut filled ones. Poles never used many spices in their cooking, probably because they could not afford it. They had to use what was available to them. They used sour cream, caramelized onions, mushrooms, etc. for extra flavor. That's the reason why Polish food has a subtle taste. They also use a lot of poppy seeds, which Poland is the world's number one grower of.

Oh, My Lord!! I've wanted to try your recipe out for a while ... These took me 2 and a half hours to make yesterday (went with full fat cream cheese and sour cream, and I pan fried them a few hours later, just before serving with drinks for an afternoon gathering!) ... and they were worth every bite! They're very filling, but even with just 5 guests (and 1 of those was a 5yo child!) there were none left. A word of warning: if your friends have young children, smack their fingers when their hand goes for their 7th or 8th Pirogi, or offer to make them a sandwich .. because that was A LOT of work to turn around and find there were only 2 left for me! But, OMG - SO GOOD!

Hubby is rubbing his tummy like he does when he's well-satisfied - not that there's much of a tummy to rub, LOL .. He's certainly never going to get fat! But I think I prepared the shape and texture of the pastry much better this time, pulling it right over the filling the way you do, and I also pan-fried them again in Canola Oil. Pastry is like that .. it requires practise to perfect each variety. Thanks so much again for your expertise .. watching your video again helped me improve on my technique 100% : ) Mmmm-Mmmm-Mmmm .. I followed your video last nite and my pierogis came out perfectly. I’ve been making them for years but saw your video and i wanted to pass it along to my cousins. I learned from my grandma. You do every step the same exactly. Only difference is she used shredded cheddar cheese, not cream cheese. The tip on using the water as u seal them, I add that as a general rule for every pierogi and then u can guarantee they don’t open when boiling. Nothing’s worse than having your hard labor go to waste while boiling! Anyway, thanks for making this and breaking down the steps! Happy new year!

My husband and I are both Polish so I am going to try making these. I thought my mother made more things out of potatoes than anyone but she never made these. She would grate the potatoes, drain them, add an egg, and a little four salt and pepper and roll them into an oval shape and boil them in salt water. When done I like butter over them the best. Some people would sprinkle cheese anc fried crispy bacon. The next day she’d cut them into smaller pieces and fry them. Between watching you and writing this I am getting hungry. Seeing yours are already done. I’ll be right over. 😂. We called them Kluski.

Jenny My parents were both from German families raised in North Dakota and my mother made these Pierogi, we called them Cheese Buttons because the filling was made up of homemade cottage cheese seasoned with sauteed onion in butter with a little salt and pepper. Some people use mashed potatoes like yours or some combination of ground beef and cheese. I freeze mine and cook a few at a time. cooking them frozen is tricky, one has to stir them slowly on low simmer until they float up, then nine minutes more and lift them out with a slotted spoon on a towell, then back in kettle with more sauteed onion and butter on them. Enjoyed watching you go through your method of making the Pierogi.

I loved the Jenny Jones show, I am a fan! I come to this channel to find healthy options for my favorite dishes and Jenny always delivers. This is a great recipe, easy too but one tip DO NOT make the dough in the food processor WHAT A MESS! HA! Do them in the bowl like she shows, it's the best way. I froze them and tried a cheat step. Instead of boiling 1st (they're great but I do like the pan fried version) I rubbed the frozen ones with olive oil and put in a non stick pan to defrost at room temp. then cooked them on a very low heat until the dough cooks through and they're nice and browned on both sides (low and slow to allow them time to cook through the dough). They came out great. I also used her tip with the cream cheese and that's my go to now! Really rich and creamy tasty filling. DELICIOUS! I made a big batch and froze a lot 3lbs of potatoes and 1 8oz. block of cream cheese (I like them cheesy, 1st time I used her measurements but I used 4 oz. of cream cheese instead of 3. It was a nice ratio so I doubled it today. I didn't do the friend onions and garlic in the filling, I used onion powder black pepper and a small amt. of Pink Himalayan Sea Salt. I pan fried and served crispy fried garlic over them with some green onions and sour cream. Thanks Jenny, you're the BOMB!

I am the fortunate grandaughter who received all of my great-grandparent's Polish & Ukrainian family recipies & books from the old country. I grew up on all these recipes. Here's my problem..my grandfather made my 2 favorite pierogie using finely chopped onions, cabbage & a white crumbly dry cheese & the other one was a meat pierogie & I don't remember what was in it. Have you or any of your followers made these 2 pierogies I've mentioned. I sure would appreciate the content equivalents so I can make them for my family now. Lots of thanks. I just happened upon you site & love it. We also love 2 eat kolachkie with the handmade fruit. I love 2 see how u would make it. What fun learning & trading new recipes. Thanks again. I look forward to hearing from u. Candace of Nan's Nook.

People should explain what they don't like about the videos before they click the dislike button. It would be great to read: I don't like myself, I don't have a life so I don't like this video either." That said I loved this recipe :) I am going to try it.

It might be not to everyone's liking, but "potato & cheese pierogi" are known in Poland as "pierogi ruskie" or simply "ruskie". It doesn't make them any less delicious, it's just the name. BTW: "ruskie" in colloquial Polish means "Russian" (and "Russians" i.e. people of Russia), but it actually is "Ruthenian" or "Rusyn", derivative of "Ruś", which are the lands now in western Ukraine and Slovakia. The "pierogi ruskie" are a very popular traditional dish throughout Poland and I have no idea whether they are also known in Ukraine or Slovakia, or how they are called over there. The recipe is absolutely great. I'm used to substituting sour cream with Greek yoghurt (both filling and dough) for many years now, and to making them somewhat smaller (about 2/3 of the Jenny's), but I admit - this size saves on work and time.

My mother fries them rather than boiling them and they are delicious that way too.

+Maritsa Darman The dough is raw and needs to be boiled first to cook, then can be fried. I think they are best when fried.
@MaritsaDarman9 жыл бұрын
yes I know. She fries it before boiling and it cooks in the oil well.

+Jenny Can Cook Oh, you mean deep fried. I have never heard of cooking them that way but they must turn out crispy!

Hi Jenny, I prepared Pierogi according to your recipe, and I must say that I loved them! They tasted great, were simple and easy to prepare, and my family loved them! I only wished that they looked prettier, but that it something that can be remedied with practice (this was my first attempt at making pasta dough). Speaking about pasta dough, do you have a good recipe on how to prepare ravioli from scratch? I have noticed that while you are still active on your website as well as social media, you haven't recently made any uploads on KZbin. Your videos have been very helpful with instructions, and I like that you are very organized and have very detailed tips on hand! I look forward to attempting more of your recipes!
