Portuguese Porridge / Papas

Portuguese Porridge
1 ½ cup milk
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp all purpose flour
1 tsp brown sugar
1 pinch salt
In a pot, add milk,sugar, flour and salt. Mix everything well until flour is dissolved. Turn the stove on and cook until it has a creamy consistency. Pour the cream into a plate and top with some brown sugar.
Papa de aveia à portuguesa
1 ½ xícara de leite
1 colher de açúcar
2 colheres de sopa de farinha de trigo
1 colher de chá de açúcar mascavo
1 pitada de sal
Em uma panela, adicione o leite, o açúcar, a farinha e o sal. Misture tudo bem até a farinha se dissolver. Ligue o fogão e cozinhe até obter uma consistência cremosa. Despeje o creme em um prato e cubra com um pouco de açúcar mascavo.

Papinhas! Cinnimon and sugar on top. Mom would make this when we weren't feelng well, or when it was cold outside. We always had them in a bowl. Love them.

My good you just bring so good memories when I was a child. MY MOM USE TO MAKE PAPAS IN THE WINTER TIME SATURDAYS NIGHT. BIG TACHO NO LUME D LENHA. Ó saudades,my best parte was do clean the tacho I with seat in the floor and go around with the spon and clean de pote the best part was the burn papas no fundo do tacho...I still make papas today use to make for my parents for breakfast 🥣, lot's a canela ...delicious 😋

My Mom made that for me too. It was a treat. Sometimes it was sprinkled with cinnamon and other times strawberry preserves were swirled through the dish. Every once in a while I make it too.

My goodness, I haven't made papas in a while. My mother made two versions, papas with milk, cornstarch, and cinnamon. The other was papas grossas. Love it. Thank you Angela for sharing your recipe with us. ❤️ 😊

Hi Angela! I grew up with my Mom making papas and I made papas for them as they aged. My mom sometimes would make with cornstarch and the egg yolk or with all purpose flour or with corn flour. I still make them and my family loves papas even for dessert in a small dessert plate of course 😂 I must say my favourite from all is the yellow corn flour papas! 😋 🇨🇦

My Nana made it for me all the time, And my Mom use to sing something like "papas com bom, tu es da bon". Sorry for the mispelling, probably. I so miss those mornings. This brought me to tears. Hi.
