That first closed back fender clean setting with a splash of reverb had the perfect dead Kennedy's/agent orange 80s surf punk vibe! Good stuff! Edit/post script😂: my grandfather gave me an acoustic bass amp from the 70s and I played in a hives/white stripes/yeah yeah yeah style garage rock band and I played my Mexican fender cyclone through that thing with a $25 distortion pedal and a $25 delay pedal, and shit sounded awesome!

Quilter’s JMP voicing is a crunchy beast! With proper EQ and limiter setting, it roars like a real marshall tube amp. Don't miss out!
@nath16064 ай бұрын
One thing to note about the limiter, it is absolutely not a compressor. It limits the input volume, so you get less distortion when you turn the gain up. What makes it not a compressor is that it does not make quieter playing louder. I have the Quilter Superblock US & it's probably my favourite amp ever. So versatile, yet so portable & light, and it sounds brilliant.
@mrchrisbeaver4 ай бұрын
Limiting is compression with a high ratio, to put it in as simple terms as possible, Limiting is a compression with a typical starting ratio of 10-1 and usually 20-1 being considered limiting. ''What makes it not a compressor is that it does not make quieter playing louder'' This is not correct, in fact the opposite is true. Limiting can have an even more dramatic effect raising quiet parts as the ratio is higher. Think of it as compression with more extreme settings
@mrufino1Ай бұрын
Just a little clarification- a compressor and limiter are the same thing but using different ratios. The makeup gain on a compressor or limiter is what would make your signal louder (“make up” the gain you reduced). If you have a guitar pedal that increases the volume, that means the makeup gain is fixed, or linked to another control. In the end, they’re both automated volume controls based on parameters you specify, but not every compressor or limiter gives you independent access to every control.

This is super cool, and I’m glad you’re introducing more people to Quilter stuff. I have owned a Quilter Aviator Cub for years and I absolutely love it. I did eventually put a different speaker in it, but even stock it’s an incredible amp. Great tone, loud as you’d ever need a 1x12 to be, perfect with pedals, just fantastic.
@andrewmkish2 ай бұрын
A LIMITER is just a COMPRESSOR with a ratio fixed at infinity:1. It keeps any signal above the threshold to be attenuated to the maximum level allowed by the threshold parameter. Essentially a “brick wall” that sets a volume level boundary that no signal level can exceed. Quilter adds this circuit on most of their products to emulate the feel of tube “sag”

Just got one of these. Great unit. And remember kids, when you’re listening to a demo on your phone speaker it’s gonna sound like your phone speaker. I’ve owned just about every top Marshall / Fender / Boogie rig, built some tube amps, 5e3’s etc, and I like this pedal amp box thing. It’s sweet. Update edit : Gigged with this unit, pretty much set to fender with some gain and put my old Rat and other modulation pedals in the loop and it was killer. Was great, tweaked my fold back so it was cool onstage and never had an issue. In fact got great reports on the sound I was getting. Love it.

FYI a limiter is just a compressor with an infinite compression ratio. Once your input hits the threshold, it simply never allows the output to increase further (most general "compressors" offer variable and much gentler ratios). So that's why it sounds like compression. It is compression! Just with a higher ratio than other compressors.

As a rule limiting is a compression ratio of 10 to 1 and above. Set so nothing gets over a set threshold. Compression happens dynamically usually 1:1 to 8:1. Any reduction over threshold is increased below set threshold.

Oh sick! I have a Quilter Superblock UK and this answers the issues I have with it - like the fact that it's only one channel and mono. I kinda wish you could output this to a cabinet, but other than that I will have to keep this amp on the backburner to look at whenever I decide to upgrade!
@natearchuleta20034 ай бұрын
Quilters limiters from what I've read and experienced from my superblocks are like a one way compressor(hence limiter) that squashes peaks and squashes highs slightly more than lows. The limiter helps higher gain sound less fizzy and feel more saggy. Edit: high gain Ryan is fun
@wbertie26044 ай бұрын
Ideally, I would want the limiting after the effects loop to control any pedals in the loop with peaky output. However, I'd want to be able to set the threshold high to avoid a solo volume boost being brick walled it sounds like it must at least be after the preamp.

I've heard it said that with tube amps, if you're not pushing themm into breakup, you're not hearing the tubes anyway, so you may as well use a solid state amp. Plus, I'm a pedal guy, and solid state seems the better platform for pedals. But this unit sounds incredible. The diversity of just the amp is impressive, but it's ability to take pedals/effects makes it an easy decision to pick up if one's looking for an amp on a board.

Ok, I seriously need an answer here. What was the name of the clean toned song, with reverb but no dirt, that you play in the video around 10:30 to 10:45. Was that green day or another song? Because its been on my mind and I had to watch this video again because I been trying to find it. And I'm not sure if it's "when I come around" or another song that sounds similar but is better hahaha in fact, you also mentioned a bunch of songs that share the same chords. I'd like to know then but I really just want to know what song that was if nothing else, because I'm gonna learn it, then rip it off. Hahaha I'm just in the mood of learning songs in that nature that use those kinds of licks.

@@Djerksdjently I recently got a Superblock US. It sounds great through a cab, nice controls, well built, but I find the headphone output just so-so.
