Jorah is one of my favorite characters with Jon Connington. He's very complex. I bet Jorah kills Dany in the end. In the Bear and the Maiden Fair song, note how the maid is angry at the bear and fighting him off, and the very next line she is all happy as he takes her away. To me, this is a hint that Jorah will kill her, where from his point of view he kills her out of love for who she was, not what she has become, for her own good, which makes it the last betrayal, out of love. Songs are lies. What you speak of at 47:45 really brings that to mind.

always wondered why the show left out the scene where lord commander mormont never mentioned jorah at all around the time before he died, many show watchers I know forget that they are even related father and son. the past season had that clip with him and tyrion talking about him but that was it

+Radio Westeros Oh, yes. I enjoyed it, as always. :) Something occurred to me as I was listening to you discuss Jorah perhaps becoming a member of the NW (1000th Commander?). One of the things that I believe (although I do not particularly like this theory) is that Daenerys will end up as the Bride of Fire to the Others in a peace pact sealed with a marriage. If this was to happen, hopeless romantic Jorah would be as close as he could ever come to her by patrolling the Wall. Man, that would be a bittersweet outcome (emphasis on bitter).

Im curious as to your perspective on Danys thoughts on his dismissal in her chapters in Dance. Even Daario said it was a mistake to send him away, and he is the least trustworthy in her retinue. Jorah in dance is like reading Jaime from Briennes pov. We have no idea what he is really thinking without the pov, he is not the most open person even with Daenerys.

Listening to your podcasts, sometimes more than once, gives me more insight on ASOIAF topics, help me reflect on stuff from different points of view, makes me relive scenes from the books (this having the feeling of sharing with you and the other listeners the experience) and most of all it's superfun! Well done. I love your analysis of Jorah. He's been with the story from the beginning but not many have much to say about our exiled bear. Even Sandor Clegane gets 'shipped' with Sansa, but poor Jorah gets nothing. I was most irritated with him when he tried to put down Barristan or sneered about Ned, but I get where he's coming from with it. I feel for him. I think the Watch is a brilliant idea you present for him both for his and Jeor's sake. I feel George has more in store for him than being down and out.What do you think Leyton Hightower was thinking when he assented to Lynesse marrying Jorah? So unlikely a pair. I've wondered if she may have been 'damaged goods' hence the approval. Anyway, just terrific as always. The ad is particularly amusing. Bravo❣
@RadioWesteros9 жыл бұрын
+Mary Harrison Thanks so much! We agree Jorah has an awful lot of pathos, and think he's meant to be very "relatable" with his jealousies and personal strife. As far as Lynesse goes, she was the tenth child and sixth daughter of Lord Leyton. We know that finding lands and dowries for so many children can be very difficult, even for a wealthy lord. Since we're told they married "for love" and that Lynesse's upkeep ultimately led to Jorah's ruin, it might be safe to assume that she didn't bring a very large dowry -- something that might have made her less attractive to other highborn suitors. Also, while a couple of Lynesse's sisters married mere landed knights, Jorah is a Lord in his own right which may have had a certain attraction, and it's probably a safe bet that the Hightowers didn't have a very good conception of what Bear Island was truly like. The idea of her being damaged is a good one too. Look at Lysa Tully & Jon Arryn, an unlikely match if there ever was one! LOL- glad you liked the ad. One of our favourites, completely suggested by the text ;)
@maryharrison69489 жыл бұрын
+Radio Westeros ahh yes, a good point. Lots of children to place and a Lord is a good catch. Not realizing the remoteness of Bear Island probably exacerbated the let down of her expectations. Not a happy wife, not a happy life...🤓

The funny thing is that Jorah is acting weak and needy and it is really turning Dany off, with his needy behavior!!
@kevinmoore42379 жыл бұрын
2 alternate possibilities for Jorah learning Jeor's last wishes: 1. He goes with Dany in her conquest of Westeros, meeting Sam there 2. In the Sam/Citadel chapter, there are two points where GRRM uses his trick of starting the PoV on a lengthy discussion but not letting us hear, returned several hours later. Sam blurts out his whole story first to Alleras and then to Marwyn. In the time it takes Roy Dotrice to read all of Sam's PoV chapters, a fast talking Sam could spill out all that info. Conceivably that detail might have been included, in which case Jorah could hear about it from Marwyn. All that said, there might not BE a Night's Watch, depending on how things pan out with The Others.
@RadioWesteros9 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Moore I think your point in number two is excellent thinking and something I've not seen suggested before. Marwyn delivering the words is plausible I think. Number one is also possible, but dunno if I can see Jorah being with Dany at that point, but who knows. I think the NW is going to be in a sorry state but I'm hoping there will be a resurgence. Shame to wait 8000 years only to disband or have ass handed to them by the Others :/Thanks for your comment and your very careful listening! Much appreciated -yb
@kevinmoore42379 жыл бұрын
+Radio Westeros "dunno if I can see Jorah being with Dany at that point" - very curious to hear about that - are you theorizing that Dany won't accept him back into her service when she's reunited with him (and Tyrion, and Barristan is he's still alive) or that she'll get from Vaes Dotrak to Westeros without being reunited with him? Your classic Battle of Fire episode gives us a very good sense of how things are likely to stand in Meereen, with Jorah & Tyrion alive and probably on the winning side - and with Dany most likely temporarily out of the Meereen picture and "going back to go forward" in Vaes Dothrak, likely leaving with a Khalazar and a fully functional Drogon. What do you forecast after that? To put it another way, if she's going to hook up with Marwyn, it will likely be in close proximity to Jorah and Tyrion. And of course, we assume that Jorah will live through the BoF, else the Night's Watch ending point for his arc is off the table. (And I agree that it would be poetic and "bittersweet" for him to end up following in his father's footsteps. Maybe Jon might even give him Longclaw?)

Hey guys ^_^ Love your Podcasts, keep it up,,, will be a great asset to look back on once the story's (book and show) are complete, and are lots of fun to listen to right now :D But my question is what do you mean at the start by 'twice exiled' in the into?
@RadioWesteros9 жыл бұрын
+Flippy We chose twice exiled as our episode title because Jorah was exiled once for slavery and once for betraying Dany. Tyrion thinks to himself in Dance that Jorah is "twice exiled"."Twice exiled, and small wonder, Tyrion thought. I'd exile him too if I could."
@Dysastyr9 жыл бұрын
wasn't he technically exiled two separate times by dany? I may be wrong about that, if so, my name is wrong :/
@Dysastyr9 жыл бұрын
oops never mind, I think I was considering him getting run out of that city by his 2nd wife's new lover as an exile.
@RadioWesteros9 жыл бұрын
+Jorah the Thrice-Exiled haha that's a pretty good point. In which case Tyrion is the one who was wrong. Either way since we try to take all of our ep titles from quotes, we're stuck with his interpretation ;)
@suffer35089 жыл бұрын
+Radio Westeros Ahhhhh, that make sense :) and I didn't realize that it was a quote for a title,,, or even a title at all,,, just heard 'twice exiled' and got curious not thinking to link it with Jorah. But now I do :D cheers for the reply :)

I love Jorah, who gets a lot of unjustified hatred from the fandom. For me, he's one of Martin's most interesting and 3-dimensional characters and you really hit the nail on the head when you point out that he's such a wonderful walking history book, tour guide and analyst of all things Westerosi and Essosi - serving that role not only Dany (and later Tyrion) but for us. He's sort of the in-world Radio Westeros (except that you two aren't covered with fur and morally compromised!) I'm really looking forward to his and Tyrion's continued interactions in post-Battle of Fire TWoW. He's also one of the small number of characters that the show hasn't totally ruined - in spite of his having to absorb a lot of JCon's arc. Unfortunately, the REST of JCon's arc - as recently examined by the BFish - is going to be sorely missed in the show.
@RadioWesteros9 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Moore glad you enjoyed! Like a lot of the secondary characters, we found there was so much more to Jorah than meets the eye when you really study him. He's ultimately a tragic character, but we think he's meant to be someone readers can really relate to. And we agree that he's great on the show, much of which we suppose is down to Iain Glen's fabulous portrayal :)
