Today while working at Jiffy Lube I had the opportunity to drive a 2001 Toyota Echo 5 Speed almost identical to the Regular Cars one (RIP), it was far from the best car I've seen there, and I mean FAR but few cars have made me smile quite as much as that one did today because as I sat in it all I could think was: "This lady shouldn't let her center console thing get so dirty, doesn't she know all she needs to do is take it out and hose it down?!?" So thank you Regular Cars, you make my day just that much better.

In_a_Trance Studios So much agreement there-- ya beat me to it. Yeah, I have no problem with a boot in an auto as long as the auto is still blatantly obvious. Going between the Accords, Camry's, and Altima's then into a Sonata with a shift boot, it's just nicer somehow. The one in the FRS/BRZ, however, looks damn near identical to a manual and THAT is gross.

Harvey Duncan It's a dual clutch Automatic.. it has 2 clutches! And the transmission itself costs nearly 8,000$ ... you cannot compare it to a slushbox.. it doesn't have a torque converter.. its also just as efficient as a traditional manual.. because it is a manual.. except it can shift faster than a human can with a 3rd pedal.

Robert P What did I say? I was agreeing with the "But that beats crumbs, change, or anything else that might get stuck on the little plastic crevasse on cars that dont have leather on the shift knob." The BRZ just happens to be one of the few booted non-manual cars that bugs me for trying to look the part but isn't a stick. And I've driven the MkV GLI DSG-- damn thing was fun!

Audi says the 3.0TFSI V6 is rated @ 333hp. Anyone who driven one will know that's absolute BS; it is severely underrated from the factory. It's actually closer to the region of 350hp at the crank, and ~333hp AT THE WHEELS. This is to 1. lower insurance and 2. give breathing space to the ~$80,000 RS4. A tune & chip later, you'd be blasting past Camaro SS & M3s. Watch Chris Harris review; the 3.0TFSI is extremely potent when tuned. This is the car that universally makes BMW 335i owners cry. You can also get one used for Lancer Evo X money too. And because of this, I love it.

It's probably more like 370hp. Really. The video isn't kidding, when you first leave a stop sign at full throttle and turn with the sport diff active, your brain melts. These are really fast cars... about as quick as a late 1990s Corvette if you do no mods to the car at all... they were rated at 355hp and weighed about 3200lbs, so you do the math on what the Audi really puts out, considering that the S4 is more like 3850lbs and accelerates with the same urgency (12.9@106 quarter mile, or thereabouts)

I can tell you why you can't enjoy the audi in America.. It's built to do 200 kph on the autobahn. Constantly.. Because as crazy as it sounds : your speed in Germany is determined by the fuel you can afford.. And audi owners can afford enough fuel to stay at 200 kph

There is nothing wrong with japanese cars. If you have the right one :-) As a petrolhead i think life is to short to waste it with bad compromised cars. This has not much to do with money. You can get decent cars so cheap these days. The only trade offs are sometimes reliability and running costs. Each country has it's own pool for used car gems. You just have to know them.

+You Thana well.. I love my shitbox. Got it quite cheap. Mitsubishi carisma 1.8 GDI Dynamics. Look it up. It's mad. I love it.. Just look how low it is from the factory. 200k miles on it, runs flawless, sounds like a beast and is also quite fuel efficient.. It's the perfect beginner car. Really fun to drive, loud stereo, but not so quick that you get into serious accidents.. But quick enough to beat most Golfs, Corsas and Twingos at the lights, the cars most people in my age have around here.. And it handles perfect! My friends have 125ccm motorcycles and when the route isn't to curvy the handling is good enough to keep up!

See I think that's why people who buy the S4 opt for it over the M3... it's not shouty, and it allows them to blend in when they want to do so. Only people who recognize the mirror caps and exhaust outlets will know what they're looking at. I think that ideal holds true for the entire Audi family of cars, even the R8 ... because the owner could've purchased a Lamborghini, but wanted a hint of civility (even if it's a small one). Great stuff as always though guys.

@splewy 10 жыл бұрын
yanni6556 Yeah that's true. A lot of people here in the US buy a base model Golf or Passat and think they're hot shit because they drive a car with "Ze superior German engineering". Little do they know that many VWs sold here aren't that great anymore (VW made them way cheaper), and many of them are now assembled in Mexico.
@quineloe
@quineloe 10 жыл бұрын
splewy does it really matter where a car is assembled? What do you think happens in a Mexico VW factory, they accidentally put a rat in the steering wheel?
@splewy
@splewy 10 жыл бұрын
quineloe VW outsourced their US market manufacturing to Mexico because it's cheap. Cheap labor is usually poor quality labor. You also have to wonder a bit about a company that thinks it's better to cut costs by using cheap labor, rather than designing a more cost effective product or designing a product that is actually worth the price they want to charge.

I personally own a '13 s4 and have been absolutely thrilled with it since new. Despite what I believe is a comical and somewhat accurate review, I vehemently disagree with the reviewers contention that this car's styling borders on being comparable to a rental. Subtle styling notwithstanding, this car strikes an all but perfect blend between tremendous power and subtle yet elegant styling. Audi executed its goal brilliantly with this car that caters to a particular niche of the automotive segment. It's not an M3 and frankly I couldn't be happier knowing that fact.

+Jeffrey Formeister the 6.2 liter v8 (excluding the black series) is in a car bobby that most americans especially in upper middle class to high class areas would not give a second look. When people see a C-Class Mercedes it give the idea of entry level luxury and performance. People expect speed out of the SLS or an SL or and of those larger more expensive looking Benz's but the C-Class (especially in that era) had a very elegant yet understated look. Living in Newport Beach where supercars areas common as Muscle cars in the southern america, me driving my friends C63 gave me no more reactions than when I drive my C350 accept of course from enthusiasts who would give me a thumbs up. By sleeper i meant that the power out weighs the cars appearance of aggression.

Can you guys just do more high end car reviews? I mean, shit, it's the best, crappy, and most importantly, HONEST review I see on KZbin. I really appreciate it. Same sentiment about everything.

Its true... I have driven dozens of these and its basically impossible to not risk losing your license even if you are just going around the block. The way the power comes on the car basically eggs you on to beat the hell out of it. Even just pulling away from a stop sign at half throttle you feel like a bullet coming out of a gun...

That dual clutch is better than a manual. It shifts faster. Manual is fun and all, but in a race, this car transmission has the advantage.

Tristan Rios That may be, but it doesn't really matter to me. The more driver aids a car has, the less control the driver has, which makes it a less compelling driving experience in my mind. Trying to coordinate your feet with the shifter and finding the correct revs is a lot more interesting than pulling a paddle, plus the feel of a good manual/clutch is satisfying in its own right.

Maestro_T So what, just buy a car with a manual tranny so that you can feel superior to all of us who all know how to drive one but don't give a sh!t! (I drove 250,000 KM on a manual delivering pizza while in college, now I drive an S5 V8). Go drive your manual

I have to disagree with the leather gaiter part. I think there's no relation between a leather gaiter on a shift knob and the fact that it's a manual. Take old school sports cars for instance (or even new sports cars like the R8 o a manual Lambo), they didn't have that, there was just a naked metal shift knob.

I rarely drive my 2013 S4. For the last 6 years I swore I was going to list it for sale yet it still hangs out in my garage. It's a solid and fun car that's hard to part with that's for sure. Edit: 3 years later I finally put the AWE touring exhaust on it and maybe 4k miles!

i'm assuming you didn't do launch control? that would've made for some great reaction footage.. i love how uncomfortable you are driving quickly. maybe its the wide angle lens but you seem to be sitting a bit too far from the steering wheel. your arms shouldn't have to reach that far. tilt the seat-back more upright maybe? or it's the gopro's wide angle.

AWD doesn't give you more stability, just more grip. If your driving in snow you'll accelerate better but won't stop or turn better than any other car

The thing is the terrible fuel consumption is not due to the 4wd because that looses a max of 10% of the power, the major part that increases fuel consumption is the super charger the super charger in a nutshell uses power to create more power but the extra power it uses is what I turn give the horrible fuel consumption, if you look at a m3 for example, it does 30mpg with a similar displacement turbo charged inline 6 and that because turbos do put a load onto the engine like a super charger
