So, I've done this window fix before. I drilled from the inside because you don't want bugs and dirt from the outside getting between the panes. I used a diamond bit set made for a Dremel that has really small bits of different shapes. To defog the window, I used an electric water pick and sprayed rubbing alcohol between the panes. It cleaned up nicely.
@LaidBackLiving3 жыл бұрын
We’ll have to do the alcohol too. I like that idea! Thanks!

@@LaidBackLiving Was it originally a thermo glass window? Then it won't work half as good as before, holes or no holes. And it will probably get dirty over time between the glasses.
@DennisGentry2 жыл бұрын
@@akyhne It will most likely work about as well as ever, especially if they plug one of the vents to stop convection. Ideally, they'd dry it out with some dry air or nitrogen to remove any water vapor, which probably causes the most heat loss. Ordinary double-pane windows are usually filled with dry air or nitrogen (because it's cheap and available), but you can get argon filled windows for ~100% more money and about a 30% performance improvement.

No more fog but also no more insulation as all the gas has now disapeard from inbetween the glass
@DennisGentry2 жыл бұрын
It was water vapor (a gas) and something else before; now it's nitrogen, oxygen, and less water vapor. There isn't a magical gas you can put between panes of glass for insulation, although they often leave the factory with dry 99% nitrogen. You can pay extra for argon filled windows, but a) the insulation improvement is about 30% at most over dry air or nitrogen, and b) I'm not convinced that the argon stays sealed in for the long term. It certainly didn't in this case.

Why would you drill through the glass??? Drill through the frame and then reseal the holes!!! Any time you mess with glass you are messing with disaster! And why would you drill the holes outside???
@IamChrisL7123 жыл бұрын
That would be a good idea but I'm not sure you reseal the hole at all. Once the outside air gets in, you'll get moisture anyway. Most of those windows have Argon gas in them and once it leaks it's more cost effective to just get a new window.
@LaidBackLiving3 жыл бұрын

@@LaidBackLiving The holes should have been on inside and drilled after the home was finished and air tight!!! But you do not watch Matt Risinger and do not UNDERSTAND How Important having an Air Tight home is. I would have drilled hole on the outer edge and put a small fan such as from a computer to constantly blow air through space - requiring a box with the fan four holes and oppositely a vent for air to escape BUT ALL IN THE INSIDE...somehow I’d find a way to make the air dehumidified!
