I wrote this quote down earlier this week - when I was feeling super down, and think it aligns with this video very well: 'The moment I accepted where I was instead of wishing I was somewhere else, everything just got better' - midnight gospel And it's so true!! The second you're able to just accept where you are it's like an instant weight is lifted off your shoulders.

@pillowcloud60574 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly! I was on my way to work, a little late as usual when I pulled up to some road work and a guard with a stop sign. A year ago I would have been super stressed and irritated at the wait but now I just sat back in my seat and watched the beautiful nature around me. Instead of wishing I had a better sleep schedule, that I’ve woken earlier or that I could have an apartment closer to work I just accepted that I was there, and I was not moving anywhere for a while. And I found myself thinking “thank god for these workers. Without people like them I wouldn’t even have a road to drive on” AND I WAS SO SURPRISED BY MYSELF! I just genuinely thought a nice thing about the people who held me up! Who was the reason for my delay. And that would never have happened a year ago. I’m so glad that I’m in such a healthy place now. Things do change and every pain will fade eventually 😊

This reminded me of this quote: "I believe I know the only cure, which is to make ones center of life inside of ones self, not selfishly or excludingly, but with a kind of unassailable serenity - to decorate ones inner house so richly that one is content there, glad to welcome anyone who wants to come and stay, but happy all the same when one is inevitably alone." - Edith Wharton Thank you for teaching me how and encouraging me to decorate my inner house richly. ♥️

I found it really eye opening when you mentioned seeking purpose over happiness. I know that you have videos on finding your purpose but maybe you could explain how that is different from chasing happiness. The college admissions process and considering what I want to do with my life is really overwhelming and this may help me put my feelings in perspective.
@victorialim4 жыл бұрын
Aw Clare all the best w the college admissions process, it can be a tough one, having gone through it myself not too long ago. Remember that your worth is so much more than which school you get into, especially since the process can be arbitrary and there are so many things about it you can’t control! Sending love x
@Agreatperhapsbylilo4 жыл бұрын
i'd say she means this; chasing happiness is something that sounds good. you are basically changing the positive and the good. you want to achieve well so you can find happiness. And happiness is a great trait. however, if you strive for achieving just that you are basically waiting the rest of your life to get that. it's just a feeling, a high moment. you are waiting until your next birthday with friends or going on holiday. happiness is solely an emotion and I feel like people that strive to solely be happy will not get what they want. striving purpose, however, finding what you truly believe in and what you are meant for is something bigger. it is motivating to wake up feeling like you are meant to be here. it will just as much get that happiness and content feeling. but seeking purpose is much more about the journey than that one high moment you're feeling. that is why it's different. and don't feel like the purpose you seek has to be permanent. i had way different purposes 3 years ago when i started college than I do so now :)

Hi Rowena! I hope you see this message and I hope it makes you feel better as you mentioned that you felt thumbs down instead of thumbs up! It has been just above a year since I have come across your channel including beauty within and coffee & cashmere and I am so grateful for that. Honestly, knowing the content from your videos has helped me so much, as I am myself also going through grief from losing my mother due to cancer and has been just above a year for that too. Also, who knows how many more people that may be in the same circumstances as me has 'breathed a little easier' because of you - haha see what I did there...I love that quote too...“To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded" And I thank you so much for that. As each day passes by there is always a sad moment after a happy moment, with all this grief, it is so hard to remain strong. No one can ever understand that pain until they go through it themselves and I guess they tend to get awakened and follow the path of post traumatic progress to help others like you do. Thank you once again Rowena...much love!!!

I've never thought about prioritizing meaning over happiness. When asked about what I want from life I've always said, "I don't know, I just want to be happy," but never knew how to reconcile that, because you simply can't be eternally happy. Shit happens, even if you do everything "right". This is totally what I needed to hear. Thank you for expanding my perspective! :)

I would love for you to make a video going more into your personal journey with dichotomous thinking. This black and white type of thinking has been something that I've been reckoning with over the past year, after finally that I have been thinking this way for my entire life and it has really harmed me in the long term. Every day, I've putting in effort to "acknowledge both truths" of the black and white so that I can travel the Gray Path. I would love to hear how you realized the need for this change and how you went about this long process of changing how your brain thinks of things. I really appreciated this video. I'm especially grateful that you are continuing to make videos during this crazy time.
