Opinion here: One reason Bonham was in was for the family name. When they were in the Circle together, it made including some Led Zep covers more legit. Jason's a serviceable drummer, for sure. But, Aranoff is on a different level, an all-time great. I think Sammy couldn't resist keeping the better player, that's all.

If you look at Hagar's career, he has moved musicians around, created new bands and continually changes things to keep it fresh. Case in point Vic Johnson was with Sammy for 10+ years until he was replaced by Joe Satriani. Now Vic is back for a couple shows in 2025. Nothing to see here.

Not doing much next year, Sam says, then turns around and announced a Vegas residency. What a POS. Jason handled that like a champ too..

On a similar note, my guess is Hagar was behind getting the drum tech to spill the urine on AVH. It just feels so Sammy.

Interesting analysis and I suspect you're correct. I was already a young adult (about EVH's age) when VanHalen made it big. I have to agree with AVH on his quote you typed above. I think he's right. And his leaving Hagar out of any mention in his book was probably a shot to the Hagar ego. But as a fan of the original VH, I lost interest when DLR left. Sure a couple of ok songs with Hagar, but it wasn't the same again

Kenny is twice the drummer at least, a total pro. Jason isn't his father (the best rock drummer ever) but he's a solid drummer that is sadly loaded with flaws that Kenny doesn't have. This is a VH reunion tour in a sense and Sammy can't have Alex Van Halen so he goes with the closest thing to it. Kenny who can become any highly respected Pop or Rock Drummer. CLOSER TO VH with Kenny. Congrats Kenny.
