@@underratedcritic1983 the Tundra's fuel economy isn't that bad when you account for the realistic (not EPA) mpg figures that other 1/2 tons get. Also, Toyota's are no more expensive to work on compared to other trucks.

This engine is still port injection. If it had direct injection the fuel economy would be a tad better. However, port injection virtually never has anything go wrong with it, unlike the DI.

Direct injected for sure. Possibly dual injected, gotta research that one. An eight speed tranny like the one in the Land Cruiser would help a mile or 2 per gallon but it’s a great driving power train as it is! The 6 speed is a velvet smooth workhorse!

The one thing I did not expect when I bought my 16 Tundra, the comfortable ride. With the 38 gallon tank, it will exceed 600 miles in range, so that comfortable ride is important. The cab is also really quiet, very little road noise. The engine noise will take over with the right amount of pressure on the flapper valve, it makes me giggle every time!

Dear Savagegeese, You stated that the Tundra's engine is Direct Injection, but THANKFULLY it remains Multi-Port fuel Injection, as from what I could find out. PS. I am a truck man, and you did a fine report. Putting vehicles on the lift, so all things such as my personal interest, the suspension can be well viewed. You are unique in doing this ''Thank you''. S,G, I see your mostly performance car guy's, but seeing cars improve while growing up in the 80's was great, and I love all cars, on up to vans.I loved the Chrysler Pacifica review. Please test some more regular cars & trucks, especially ones with smaller wheels and tires, I mean who ever considered major wheel damage from a regular pot hole 15-20 years ago, and they suck in Utah winters.

Why not invest in some 2.5 shocks from king or ads for $3-4000 and have even better performance? Really the only thing on a trd pro that is better in stock form is the suspension. 4000 is a lot of money, but its a lot less than youd loose by buying a new version of what you already have. Tundras run forever. Upgrade your truck and make it what you want. Also, bilstein 6112 and 5160 combo is comparable to trd pro suspension , and is about $1100. -Did you resist the urge?

One of the first things (after swapping out the shift knob w/t TRD) I did to my 2016 Tundra XSP-X was to install that sweet TRD exhaust. Now I get even worse gas mileage because I love to hear that "Intelligent" (for Scott) 5.7 growl pulling away from every stop! I've been on several long trips and never experienced any drone other than when hitting long mountain inclines. Glad you noticed that unbelievable turning radius, which is just so very helpful when driving these manly machines! Lol ~

It is not direct injected! It's a port engine. Dual overhead cams with variable timing in all (4 camshafts); it has a variable acoustic intake. The intake has a short and a long runner intake for each cylinder. It is a forged crankshaft, and connecting rods, and aluminum allow coated pistons. 6 bolt main bottom end. All aluminum block, heads, cam cradle, and head covers. Ignition Coils over spark plugs. The brake system utilizes an electric motor to assist the brakes. It has more cross members than the F150. The exhaust system is all stainless steel front-back. Bumpers are bolted to the frame rails with 12 bolts to the frame (f150, eight). The transmission is a 6-speed automatic with 8 sets of clutches; 4 driving cutches, 4 brake clutches, and four one-way clutches. The transmission has a coolant thermostat for quicker warm up on winter. Plus a trans cooler mounted in the grill. And there are still more little things.

Also, the leather seats seems different than my 2010 Tundra LTD, and on both test-rides, found them warm. Ended up getting a 2019 Tundra Platinum for $6K less. Yes, not the off-road ability, but for 98% of my driving, the Platinum is nicer and has much better seats with "ventilated" option.

Bought a Silverado in 2018 brand new at 13000 miles check engine light started coming on. After the third time went lemon law on it. Chevy bought it back and got a tundra. Fun fact dealer offered me 23k for trade in a year after I bought it for 40K. Gm bought it back for what I paid minus a a few grand after 2 years of ownership. The day they gave me the check I went down and bought a tundra limited. Tundra is way better truck. Build quality is way higher. Fit and finish is way better ride is smoother. Also no annoying engine tick. Have the TRD exhaust and it does sound great. Love my tundra. Mpg is not great. It is on par with my 07 f150.i get about 14 mpg. The power is great. We went to Nashville in April 2015, across LA., MS. up thru AL. into TN, beautiful drive. Up & down, around curves, good roads. And it was really apparent that trip.

Considered the TRD Pro but bought Sierra crew cab instead. Inside GMC is whisper quiet! Love that Tundra rear window though.

I believe this video may be mistitled as the 2017 TRD Pros don't come in Mag Grey. Cement, White and Barcelona Red are the only options for '17. This is probably a '16

That Mustang wasn't broken down, it was being restrained. Glad I found SavageGeese from The Smoking Tire Podcast.

0W-20 is on the thinner side, but the truck does have a dedicated oil cooler, so it should easily keep the oil in an optimal viscosity range, even under high engine load. The oil would have flow advantages in cold weather and, of course, lower internal friction.

I'm a 40-something with 3 kids. I should definitely get a minivan. But I watched this video and now obviously I want a Tundra. Either Savage reviews a Sienna now, or my kids are being raised on a truck.

It's got 3 seats and a huge cab. The kids will pickup your vibe as a minivan driver. Give them pride as a role model not defeat.

The TRD pro models are the Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner. I liked the lotus comparison though it should have been that it's like the opposite of getting into a lotus, gotta jump instead of crawl.

one reason why a truck with backseats like this exists is tax breaks for companies that buy trucks for "work". it's luxury inside something originally designed for work.

Tony Oliver Comnent don't make since any vehicle can be claimed as a tax write off that is bought for a business. That is something you don't how to prove.

Next time you get a Tundra for review try out the tow/haul mode. My 2010 w/ the 4.6L V8 will downshift for corners and then hold a gear through the corner exit.

overdue for push button start but otherwise it's the truck I will not be squeamish about owning. The reliability record impresses me, tho the American brands do seem to have more creature comforts and tech, I still think I'd be better long term with this truck.
@glehman01
@glehman01 7 жыл бұрын
Why a push button start ? Is there an advantage to it ? I prefer the traditional turn the key. And I know old cars like Model A, etc. were push button start. But am I missing something ? I've ridden in a few late model Dodge Rams with the push button. I'm not trying to be a smart aleck or anything, I just don't see any improvement, unless it's just something cool that you like. And nothing wrong with that, if we all wanted the same truck, we'd eventually have one choice, that's never good.

@j_thom 7 жыл бұрын
glehman01 Well for a lot of us others, the new normal of keeping the key in our pocket to open the doors, trunks, and in the starting of the vehicle is a change so welcome that we have little to no plans to go back to the old way. It's a creature comfort that is appealing enough that many of us will NOT choose a vehicle if it's an absent feature. As a consumer, the idea of being out-argued into why I'm unreasonable or to advocate for or insist on a feature and thus should simply accept the other. Well, we are past that now. I dare any salesman to argue me into acceptance of an alternative that I otherwise want. Promise, that vehicle with stay on his lot. Just the friendly perspective of a consumer that knows what he wants, and wants what he wants and that knows there are options in the marketplace that will supply him/her exactly that.
@glehman01
@glehman01 7 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. If that's what you want then that's what you should get, as I said, if we all wanted the same thing, soon our choices would be pretty limited, I wasn't being critical, I thought there was an advantage I had missed. But it sounds like a choice you've made. And that's cool.
