Hi Uncle Scotty~ Could you share with us of what do you think of European car brands in particular that are made in France? Like Peugeot, Renault, and Citroen. I'm hearing from friends that they are pretty good, affordable, and reliable for an European brand compared to the Germans. And most of the technical problems are mostly small trivial issues. I heard so far Renault and Peugeot are the best. In Africa, those old Peugeots cars, like as old as post colonial era, are almost as good as Toyotas. Reliable, its engine refuses to die even in the harsh African dusty roads. Hope to hear your thoughts on it.

Last year I bought a 2020 Mazda CX-5. Couldn’t be happier. Easily the best car I have owned. Traded in my Honda Civic. No complaints about my Honda but the Mazda drives so much smoother. My only complaint about my Civic was the tire pressure monitor was so sensitive that every time the weather changed, the pressure monitor would go off. I will probably have my Mazda forever.

Jim Warniers - I wish I had your experience with my previously owned 2007 Mazda 3. I bought it brand new, and had 2 issues with it. First off, after the car was about 3-4 years old, I could not roll down the 2 front windows in the hot summer months here in Florida. I tried working through this issue, but continued to have this problem every summer, even after the 2 motors in both front windows were replaced. Thankfully I bought an extended warranty, because both of these repairs were covered using that EW. Even after the motors were replaced I had the same problems with the 2 front windows during the summer. 2nd issue with the Mazda 3 is once the car hit just over 80K, the AC kept breaking down. First repair was again covered under the Extended Warranty, but had continuous problems with AC up until I traded it in for a Hyundai in late 2015. BTW, I have owned 3 Hyundais since the mid 90's and the '07 Mazda 3 by far had the worst reliability of all of these cars. I know my experience is probably not typical, most other Mazda owners swear by their cars and keep buying them. I probably will continue to buy Hyundai, or go with Honda or Toyota in the future. Other than those 2 issues, I still loved that Mazda, it was the base engine with stick shift, and that car was fun as hell to drive. The current model Mazda 3 is probably the best looking compact car out on the road. I have seen that car in sort of a blue-gray color, and it's FN amazing looking.

@@edcipriani8873 back then Mazda’s we’re practically built by Ford and that is probably why you had so many problems with that car. I believe it was 2010 or 2011 Mazda completely severed ties with Ford and they are their own entity now. Right now Mazda’s are being built in Japan rather than Mexico, better build quality . Mazda has made a lot of changes since 2007.
@edcipriani8873
@edcipriani8873 2 жыл бұрын
@@liljess1982- Yeah I had known about Ford owning part of Mazda for many years as well. I have never owned a Ford, and probably never will. Back at the end of 2015 when I was looking at new cars and looking to get rid of the the Mazda3, I looked at the Focus, which did get great ratings as far as the car's agility and handling. At that time I just didn't want to consider another Mazda, and wanted to go back to an automatic after having the stick shift Mazda for almost 9 years. Don't get me wrong, that Mazda3 with the stick was a great driving experience, but driving a stick in constant heavy traffic is a PITA. Shortly after taking a Focus out for a test drive, I found out about the dual clutch automatic transmission problems. Looks like there's a class action lawsuit now with the Focus, including the 2015-2016 models which I was considering. And Ford just seemed to drag their feet about this issue, being that it started in 2012 with the Focus. Currently driving a Hyundai Elantra, the car is great, but I may have to look elsewhere next time instead of Hyundai. The redesigned 2021 Elantra is ugly as hell and that front end is a disaster. Hyundai's design philosophy is that each vehicle must stand out on its own visually. Yeah, it definitely stands out. I am not sure what Hyundai designers are smoking and snorting, but if they continue with these crappy designs, I will go elsewhere. With the exception of the 2nd gen Mazda 3, which had serious trout pout, the other Mazda 3's were and are fantastic looking cars. And the new 2022 Honda Civic is the best looking one so far. Other Mazda owners whom I know swear by their Mazdas, and buy them over and over again. I wish I had that same experience with my Mazda 3. If I have to eliminate Hyundai down the road for extreme fugliness then I might have to reconsider Mazda.

I'm now looking at the 21 Forester and 21 Outback and haven't decided yet. A possible deal breaker for the Outback is that the climate controls can only be accessed through multiple presses of the touchscreen. I much prefer the actual buttons and knobs in the Forester. Easier and much safer.

My parents have the Q5 and I can’t tell you the difference is almost zero. Something important to keep in mind, the maintenance on it is cheaper than the Audi. I just changed the transmission fluid and it was quite cheap and simple, something you can’t see on an Audi. I’m extremely happy with my car and I feel I made the right decision. Something important to let you know is for what ever reason, the leather on my steering wheel started to peel off, some people said that is cover under warranty but I haven’t take it to the dealer. Agree. Except their front seat comfort was the greatest deal breaker for me. The Cx5 is 10 cubes smaller than Forester with seats folded down. I drove a 2021 CX5 and it handled fine, but was no match for the handling of Subaru's unique AWD. I drive an 07 Tribeca with perfect maintenance and never been in the shop. I hate going to CVT. So I might order the 2022 Forester and trade it in for the new CX50 after just 3 years if Mazda fixes those extremely poor front seats.

We bought a Forester in May of 2020. People ask me if I like it. I tell them no, I love it. It handles great on the road and the auto vehicle hold feature makes driving in town a lot less stressful because the car does not require you to hold the brake down at stop lights. On the highway the auto lane assist keeps you centered in your lane. All that is required is a slight stroking of the steering wheel. Our mileage may not be as much as some but we are happy so far.

I have had a 2009 Forester since 2012. Almost all the service was done at/by the dealer. Love the feel, the handling, the visibility, the spaciousness. I had no issues with it until it got to around 100k miles, then everything needed to be replaced, starting with the suspension, wheel bearings, a new transmission at 123k, and recently a new engine (!) at 137k. Now shopping for a new SUV, and the only reason a Forester is in consideration is 'cause I love the feel, the handling, the visibility, and the spaciousness. But a CR-V hybrid is giving it a run for the money, for the fuel efficiency of a hybrid and, frankly, for Honda's reputation for reliability. Or I'll buy another Forester and get rid of it around 90k miles.

Love my 2019 CX-5 Touring. Fantastic blend of affordability and features. Best feature is the cockpit - so clean and sleek. Its competitor’s cockpits are overcluttered but the Mazda’s is so easy to navigate. The exterior design is simple and classic and reminds me of the profile of high-end luxury crossovers. Get it in machine gray metallic - the look will never get old!

I have a 2013 Forester with 103,000 miles. I change the engine oil & filter every 5000 miles, instead of 7500 miles. I also kept up with the transmission and differential service intervals. Recently, I took it to the dealer to have the thermostat replace and coolant flush; the thermostat was not broken, it was more of a precaution, since I've replaced multitudes of engines due to a faulty thermostat.

I've owned 1 Mazda and 4 Subarus. Sadly, the Mazda was a troubled vehicle (MPV) that I spent entirely too much money to keep it running. Traded that in on an Outback for the wife and she was thrilled....now many years later, the Outback has become the daughter's car and my wife is the proud owner of an new Ascent. My first Subaru was a model year 2000 Forester S with a manual 5 speed--great car and I never had an issue with it. 5 years later, I traded that Forester in for a 2005 Forester XT with a 5 speed manual--modded that car and kept it for 7 years--again, never an issue, even with the modifications. To this day, the FXT is the car I miss driving the most--wish I had never sold it!

Great video Scotty! So happy I managed to get an off-lease, low-km, 2018 CX-5 with Manual Transmission (the last year they offered it), after another driver ran a stop sign and totaled my 2014 CX-5 with MT. Spent many weeks searching, waiting, and hoping. Unfortunately, the MT's only came with the 156 HP 2.0 L engine instead of the 187 HP 2.5 L. No deactivation cylinder tech thankfully, but they did get rid of the manual e-brake for the electronic parking brake which I'm not a fan of. Came with some bonus i-activsense tech too which was not standard. Not a lot of power, but drives and handles like a dream (or overweight and oversized MX-5/miata). Also made in Japan, and you can tell the difference.

Patience and expensive tools. Storage and passenger room very good. 202k miles on the clock. . Hope is goes another 250k miles

As my first car I am getting my dads old 2004 Subaru Forester that we got used 5 years ago and it had a head gasket blow and a power steering pump die but since then it’s been an absolute dream for its performance

You were smart not to buy one with the CVT----problems "down the road."
