I don't see how you can simultaneously hold the view that women are the same as men in any and all respects that matter AND that there is no circumstance in which it will be acceptable for a man to hit a woman while it would be acceptable to hit a man in a similar situation.
@tomitiustritus66723 жыл бұрын
This is not about streetfights. This is about slapping her back into her place. He is an old 50s-60s Macho, i remind you. Thats why he says "Then we get into another area" after she asks him what happens when a woman slaps back. Because then its a fight. The thing about not punching women ever in any situation is not rooted in emancipation, but in the context of non-emancipated society. It was the "moralist" position of those who though of women as the weak sex and more like innocent children than adults. Furthermore, women were at the considerably shorter lever in almost all possible, societal, legal, physical, fiscal etc. ways. The position Connery takes is the "pragmatic" position inside the same framework. For him, its like beating an unruly child to get it back in line. Thats why its just a slap. Beating women, though it happened through all classes of society, was seen as brutish and something lower class people would do. At least in public. It was seen as an act of a man that was not mentally strong enough to keep his wife under control by other, more elegant, means. In an emancipated relationship, there is no justification or "sound reason" for any of the participants to beat the other. Because nobody has to be put back in line in the first place. Nobody has the right to force the other to do what they want and nobody is entitled to exclude the other from a decision that includes them.

I´ve slapped a guy once when he just kept talking and talking in the middle of a group project and we had a deadline / it was sorta a competition. And I felt bad immediately afterwards. Why do people act like you can say whatever you want and it doesnt matter, but a slap is an unforgivable crime. A slap hurts for a second. It causes no lasting damage. Words can hurt you much more and stay for a lifetime. It depends how strong the person is who is giving the slap. Will a woman suddenly forget the effect a violent slap in face from her husband has had on her? Couldn't that memory of violence give her nightmares just as much as a verbal abuse could to the mind? I'm sure you'd agree with that, but to say one act of bullying would leave more mental scarring than the other is a mistake.
@TH-tc3sp3 жыл бұрын
You’ve failed Sean Connery. Your manhood has failed you and you’ll never sleep with Miss Moneypenny. You’re supposed to slap the woman so she can’t say the hurtful things, but to be slapped by a woman instead of risking your feelings... You woman of a man.
@lenocman23 жыл бұрын
@@shadowviruz I cannot believe what I'm reading. You talk about Sean Connery speaking from the perspective of what was "normal in his time". If that is the case then I'm led to believe that you are of this time also, o Any man that knows how to convey his frustration or anger towards a Woman without hitting her, is a man I respect..Why does anyone need to hit another person to achieve silence? I say it's because they lack the intelligence, moral standing and the maturityl The only time I'd excuse it was in an act of self defence, if the lady was repeatedly trying to attack him with a knife for example and she was am expert in the use that knife. Even then I'd have a heavy heart. It's quite clear that Sean Connery had a short fuse when it came to this issue. A decent man would walk away to defuse a situation that became heated with a woman, if all other means fail. But his way of bringing an end to an argument which reached tipping point would be to slap her. You agree with this?! Shame on you. I'm not naive enough to think that everyone can be reasoned with. There are many women who do like to test a man's patience to the limit, waiting for him to take the bait. But you need to be bigger than that! It's the weak way out to slap anyone you're having an argument with, simply because they're baiting you. Just because it was supposedly "normal", doesn't make it right, either then or now; no matter how you try to dress it up. I can't fathom how you can say one is more hurtful than the other. I think you are speaking about your own reaction to both. The fact is that both acts are hugely disrespectful. Slapping anyone to shut them up is thuggish. If the power in your choice of words is not enough to calm her, the be the better person and walk away. I know that may be hard for some. But I don't care how hard or soft the slap is. It's the intent because once you raise your hand you've lost control.
@lenocman23 жыл бұрын
@@shadowviruz Reasonable adult?! Anyone making the excuses you made for Sean Connery cannot call themselves reasonable. I found them barely palletable. I call it clutching at straws, instead of facing the reality of a flaw he clearly had. I'm flattered you consider my message a novel. Thank you. Well instead of answering any of the points in my novel, you decide to criticise me for it's length. You could've expanded on the point in your argument about me proving Sean Connery right, but you did not. You must really hate reading novels. You must be an odd person to find my long response to your pointless reply staggering. What you should really be staggered about is your lack of criticism of Sean Connery for wanting to hit a Woman. Maybe a slap could be excused in this case, to knock sense into you.

It’s funny how she is just utterly wilfully blind to the context. All he’s saying is that if a man is showing a woman respect under pressure and the woman won’t reciprocate but instead is antagonistic he reserves the right to remind her that as a last resort, constant disrespect merits consequences. Basically don’t take the piss. Anyone who’s ever been on the receiving end of a certain kind of female mental battering can easily relate. After playing outside with his friends he came home to get a drink and planned on returning to his friends down the street. My grandmother saw how filthy and dirty he was and demanded that he take a bath. My dad did not like this and wanted to go back to playing outside. She began to chase him around the house when he said no lol. He ended up slipping on a rug in the living room by the window and crashed his head through it. I was told by him and my oldest uncle that there was blood everywhere. She became hysterical and started screaming and crying. My oldest uncle phoned my grandfather at work about what to do(grandmother didn’t have a license or drive) He asked my uncle “who the hell is crying and babbling on? I can hardly hear you!?” He said it’s mom, gramps said give her a good slap to calm her down. He did, she calmed down.
