Nothing beats the hauling power of Sabiki rigs with bait and burley but Ajing is by far way more fun! This was a funny challenge to watch you try out - hahaha those weird looks from the commuters too!
@ShroomFishing2 жыл бұрын
Haha Hai, funny you mention that! In a scene there, you could tell I forgot there were bystanders and I was shocked when I looked around and realised I was making a scene haha. Yep I've got the ajing bug!

Never tried aijing it looks like a pretty cool concept. I use the black magic sabiki rigs in pink shrimp. They come with 4 hooks and a sinker attached.
@ShroomFishing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Grant, those ones you are using are superior to the sabikis that I was using. It's something different and a lot of fun and surprisingly it's effective and not too gimicky

I just use a single size 8 hook and size 0 running ball sinker with a tiny piece of pilchard or bread just on the barb. I pull in a yakka almost every cast
@ShroomFishing2 жыл бұрын
Nice one Special K! You'd be hauling them in! It was a tough bite that night but ideally on bait, I would have mashed up bread and pilchards and used small slithers of pilchard on a hook or sabiki.
@trippa7022 жыл бұрын
I do the same thing, I put jig heads on the bottom of sabiki jigs. You can put a plastic over the hook point, so you don’t need to cut the hook off
@ShroomFishing2 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea Trippa. It wouldn't have worked for this challenge video but outside of the constraints, it's a good way to have both ways working on the same rig

I'm planning on Aji fishing for the 1st time in Wakayama, Japan in the next month or two.. Most Japanese people suspend a small basket of frozen mini shrimp under the sabiki hooks, which tend to look a bit like shrimp. Is this done in Australia?
@ShroomFishing2 жыл бұрын
That's interesting Alan, no this is not done in Australia. The closest thing that people do here is to have a burley bucket thrown over the side containing bread, pilchards and other bits and pieces

@ShroomFishing2 жыл бұрын
Yep bread certainly very good burley. I wasn't expecting the bite to be slow that night otherwise I would have come more prepared, maybe with a slab of pilchards, a chopping block and mash some bread and such together
@hairyscary85112 жыл бұрын
I found herring on the sabeki jig works best out performs prawns and bread👍 if I was seriously going for bait all I had was bread the 1st yakka would have to be sacrificed but it would pay for itself
@ShroomFishing2 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea, I keep forgetting to sacrifice the first yakka. Fresh yakka fillet is deadly on a lot of fish. I haven't tried herring yet, I can imagine that would be dynamite!

@ShroomFishing2 жыл бұрын
J B, the answer is no. It's extremely unlikely although there are whispers some people have figured out how to catch kingfish at night but for the majority of people, it's a non-event. Like they say, there's an exception to every rule but you'll notice there are hardly any photos of kingfish with a night background. Usually early morning before sunrise on first light it becomes likely but not often at say midnight

Yeah I was gonna redo it with my usual baits like burleying hard with pillies, bread and using pillies as bait. I haven't often just used bread, just thought they would be easier but they were shut down that night and it's always harder filming and fishing on a busy wharf than just fishing quietly
