Maybe it's just me but I found Drake's behavior predatory and weird before her age was even revealed. Putting this fan on stage, in front of an audience, touching her sensually, and making weird innuendos and flirty suggestions... It felt like such an abuse of power. One that she could't really opt out of without causing a bit of a fuss or making a scene. Only made worse when you realize her actual age. And even THAT doesn't stop him? Naw. Red flag after red flag with this one.

From the point that he stopped dancing with her and turned her around, none of what he did was okay - regardless of how old she was. I'm not really sure how much more ya'll need, like the dude is gross. I'm sorry as a teacher, I take these things very seriously. That Millie Bobby Brown thing was always creepy. As an adult you need to have clear and defined boundaries between yourself and children. Like, imagine any of these girls were your child. Would you want a grown ass man touching your daughter like that? How would you react if you find out a grown ass man was texting your daughter constantly? Would you be upset if you saw pictures of your daughter with some grown ass man all over her like that? If so, then you should be upset whenever you see it. Like, this celebrity worship/stan culture has baked people's brains, it's crazy to me

Can we also talk about the fact that when we talk about the age of consent how it's also in the context or implied to be concerning a teenage girl's age in relation to a man that's "waiting" to get at her? Like when we talk about this I never witness or imagine a teenage boy's age being called into question. There was 1 recent case of that model telling the lead from Stranger Things to hit her up in like 5 years. But that's literally the only blatant case. Also Drake is absolutely toxic lolol!

i don't understand how anyone could see the millie bobby brown thing as okay. like, sure, teenagers and adults can be friends, but they should be friends in PUBLIC. there should be nothing you want to say to a 14 year old that you can't say in front of their parents. and "i miss you" and all that talk about boys and dating definitely falls into the category of things he wouldn't say if they were supervised. i'm all for teenagers having privacy, being able to interact with each other unsupervised, i think it's unhealthy for their social development to not have that, but when you bring adults into the picture...someone should be checking those texts. also, the law does not define morality. i mean, if that girl on stage had been 18 at the time, sure, he was only 23, that's not that bad. but now he's like, 30, and him dating a girl fresh out of high school is predatory even if he hadn't met her as a minor. grown ass men who date girls who are ~barely legal~ are still predators. they don't care about how it affects the teenager they fuck, they just care about protecting themselves, as evidenced by the fact that whether they date 18 year olds or 16 year olds or 14 year olds depends purely on geography.

i got groomed by an old dude and know others who were and it always starts out seeming innocent like that, and escalates before you figure it out whats going on. thats why im not cool with even genuinely well intentioned relationships between children and adult strangers. you have no way of knowing and its not worth the risk

At 19 my boyfriend was 32, and at one point a woman who was his age and was friends with him, pulled me aside and said “Hey he’s a great guy but you’re really young and you have a target on your back around guys his age.” I thanked her but completely ignored her advice. I ended up really really drunk and vulnerable on several occasions and in danger more than once. Moral of the story honestly, older men can not be trusted around teens, it’s always gross, and people need to speak the hell up about it. Don’t let girls in their late teens date guys who sure as hell know better, and are just waiting for a chance to pounce.

Glad you made this video. As a drake fan I was creeped out as hell from this and made me look at him differently. I think he progressed from this personally but it goes to show society truly sexualize the growing sexuality of female teenagers. I don't think he's a pervert but it is a little sups sections

I feel like people are missing the conversation. The issue with fucking a teenager doesn’t have to do with the physical body. It’s the mental capacity to give consent. Puberty.... changes a child’s body into an adult body. That happens rather early on in life. Physically, there is no difference between a teenage girl and a woman of age (granted there are other factors such as child bearing).

Drake is an interesting case when it comes to his identity ( imo the creepy shit is open and shut- that is not ok and he needs to acknowledge that, apologize, and change) but his identity as a black man reminds me a bit of Obama. They were raised with the white side of their families and found their “blackness” after they were teens- I find it interesting but I also feel like they had a choice embracing their blackness; which is not representative of most African Americans... If that makes sense? I don’t know, I’m a passable (for white) Latina girl so if you are a poc I would love to hear your thoughts💕
@mermaidtingzzz5 жыл бұрын
Sis, you hit on a lot! I took a class and we talked about passing pretty much the whole semester. And I kinda got to the point of "if this identity is an 'option' for you, then you and I don't have the same identity". But then there's also the fact that the Black or Latino or Asian, etc. experience is not monolithic, it's allowed to be widely experience. It's complicated. I'm still wary of selective blackness tho because of the social hierarchy that benefits those who are closer or pass for white.

Obama and Drake aren't African-American.

@@alexn.2901 All African Americans are mixed, to varing degrees. Genealogists have determined that the average African American has somewhere between 18-30% European ancestry.... give OR take. Barack is African American. Drake is Canadian.

@@sunnymarie2060 I'm not going to pretend to know what communities these men can "identify with".... Barack lived on the south side of Chicago, which is far removed from his upbringing to the extreme, so who are WE to determine what he can or cannot identify with? Or relate to? Beyond that, I was responding to the person questioning their ancestry, not their upbringing.

The Age of consent in Colorado is 17, and while no sexual acts took place, It's Hella Creepy. You are right, it could have all been avoided had his commentary not just been so messed up, and it definitely made me look at him with a side eye and with an up and down. Sidenote: Colorado needs to clean up their close-in-age exception, marriage exception, and broad close-in-age exception. It's just too much.

2010 or 2011 Enrique Iglesias gave a concert in Greece. At one point, very similarly to Drake here, he got a girl on stage and french-kissed her. She was 15 and this was a part of pretty much every concert of his. He would get a girl on stage (no matter her age), dance with her a little bit and then kiss her.

Inviting fans on stage or backstage or on the tour bus or over to the hotel room has always been cringy and suspect. This happens because we have allowed it to happen, and judging from the audience's reaction ... it is going to keep happening for decades if not centuries to come.

The part about Drake being the uncool kid trying to get back at the popular kids reminds me of how the first big purchase Taylor Swift made when money started flowing in was the same exact convertible Regina George drove to get back at the girls that were mean to her in middle school "It was like -- you guys never invited me to anything, you guys are obsessed with that car, that girl, what the Plastics wear and how they talk and you quote them all the time, but I've been working really hard every single day. And instead of going to parties, I've been writing songs and playing shows and getting these really small pay checks that have added up and now I get to buy a car, and guess which one I'm going to buy? The one that the girl you idolize has." She's admitted that the whole thing with parading her fashion model friends was driven partly by an attempt to compensate for her unpopularity in middle school, and she now understand she should move past that.
