I’ll say this, every time I see an E9x M3 I drool. I will literally stop everything I’m doing and just watch it drive by. When owners see me and give a little blip of the throttle….HEAVEN!! Other than GT3’s, there aren’t many cars I feel that way about. You made a great decision.

I have a F80 with the competition pack and have extensive track time back to back with my car and an e90 and the F80 is superior in every single way other than exhaust note. It's not even close, the chassis is leagues better, the steering is more precise albight with less feel. The dampers keep the car flatter with less drama mid corner. The motor makes the e90's feel weak by comparison, the maximum grip is better, the at limit control is better, the car is lighter and easier to push into corners while being quicker on corner exit, the brakes are no comparison. The seats are better, the ergos are better, the interior is better, it looks better. One of the instructors there who owns the e90 drove my car and agreed that the F80 is a better track weapon in every way, his laptimes were immediately faster than his own car and it was the first time he ever drove an f80. The e90 is slightly more comfortable on the street, the suspension is just a hair softer and that S65 though, glorious sound, no comparison there, S55 sounds mediocre.

Have a couple m5’s under my belt. My favorite in terms of feel has been the e60. I just bought my first e92 and absolutely love it. Wish I’d of gotten one sooner. I absolutely love the raw feel the E series M’s have over the F’s. Each have its own personality. I love both ❤️

Speaking on track use the F8X is such a significant leap ahead from both a technological/hardware focused standpoint. With the same driver, on a racetrack (stock for stock or mod for mod) an F80 will mop the floor with an E90. End of story

You might feel differently up here in Colorado (5800' elevation). NA motors die up here so badly while turbo motors hardly skip a beat. You would be getting left in the dust by mom's in the X5's late for soccer practice. But at least you would feel "connected" to the experience! 😂

F80 holding value well. I’ve had 2 E92’s and currently have the f80. I personally think the f80 looks better its very modern and good for another 5 or 10 years. The lci 2 icon headlights are sharp. I have the mpe on the f80 if you leave the valves open and delete the artificial pops it doesn’t sound too bad. No doubt the v8 e92 sounds better but most will agree the e92 is probably the best sounding m to date. The thing is the f80 is an aggressive animal road presence is immense with the sharp headlights splitters and diffusers not to mention those arches its very muscular and that is the reason why i personally prefer it over the e92. I do think the competition package in the f80 makes a difference too. Especially with residuals.

Thank you, Spencer. Honestly, I had been in a dilemma whether I should have bought an F80 and sold an E92. However, after sitting in an F80, I realised I actually did not like the feeling brought by a turbo engine. I had an E70 with twin-turbo, but I just felt the accelerating was supposed to be linear. That is the same feeling when I took a flight. It must be smooth. And BMW started their business by building aircraft engines. It is in their blood. Ps. the built of turbo enhancer was for solving the issue that aircraft engine was unable to absorb enough air when they were at high altitude.

I don't own an M3 but I love all of the E90s. It definitely aged well even for being 10+ years old, you can't go wrong with one especially an LCI. It's a masterpiece also the last of the N/A straight 6 and V8/V10. It's the end of an era in BMW history.

To each it’s own, I really like your point of view and where your coming from, for me personally the F80 is everything I could ask for, every time I drive the car, it feels like the first time I’ve driven it, just absolutely in love and can’t imagine of selling it. Yes the exhaust definitely is the biggest buzz kill but surprisingly, I don’t really care that much about it, I got BM3 on my car and have some light burbles on it, and I am totally happy with it, at the end of the day, I don’t see how you can go wrong with either car lol

I have a 2008 328i E93…it has 76k miles on it and bone stock. It was my father’s car and was meticulously maintained. I know it’s not an M car but man it’s so much fun to drive! The steering really does make you feel connected to the road and it’s plenty peppy around town, comfortable on road trips, and really is great as a daily driver. The hard convertible top is icing on the cake. 👊🏻

Hi Spencer, i actually feel the same on some of your Points. Me myself i had an 1M Coupe with over 450 HP 700NM full bolton and after that an M2 and now an M4. I can tell you the following, the M4 is faster then both of these. Sound can be fixed on the S55 but you need the Akrapovic Slip On which makes the sound more deep and the equal lenght midpipe which fixes the raspyness. Now about the steering, well its hard to beat the Hydraulic steering in the E9X M3 or the E87 (1M Coupe), what you can do though is Coilovers, i have the KW V3 and after the install the car became so much more direct. Now would i chose an M4 over an 1M? Never, the old generations were so much more RAW and that is one thing you wont find in the NEW M´s. But one thing that the F8x platform is realibility, besides the Crankhub there are no big issues like the Throttle actuators or the other E9x Issues. Now about your M3 F8X, it wasnt fully loaded, you were missing the full leather dash, i find that being one of the most important Options on an M4 (Feels like a Porsche and not a 2 Series).

I currently have the e92 as my daily driver and having grown up learning to drive on BMWs, I must say the e92 steering is on point if you are a driver that wants to feel connected to the car. Nice and HEAVY. It’s response and feel is raw, kinda annoying driving in an area with bumpy roads as you feel everything but at least you know exactly what’s happening underneath you. The biggest let down on the e92 is it’s speed it’s just not as quick as the f8x generation 😂😂.

Just sold my E90 M3 and got the F80. The only thing that i miss over the F80 is the engine sound. F80 is way ahead of it, stiffer chassis, power and technology way better in the F80. Driving the E90 daily takes a lot of effort, to hear the engine you need to be up in the rev range and break the law each time you drive it. The F80 platform is a much better daily car, easy to drive and did i mention the power and torque is simply mind-blowing over the E90!!

I agree to many points. I also liked my E92 more than the F80 Competition. Here is where I disagree: 1. The F80 FEELS more nimble than the E92 because the E92 is very nose heavy 2. The M-performance Akrapovic is excellent and the sound really satisfying. Not an S65 but very good still 3. On a track there is a huge difference. I was able to shave 2-3 seconds off with the F80 Competition on a 1.30 track compared to E92 4. The F80 is much easier to drive fast in my opinion In general the E92 felt more special but my engine died on 180 000 km, which was a very expensive repair. Had zero problems with the F80.

The one edge the f80 has is looks IMO. Looks sharper and has great lines, but I think the v8 is far better. I’m looking at an e92 rn but I can’t justify it with all the potential maintenance compared to other cars. Maybe as a second car, e92 is the way to go

The hydraulic steering set up , suspension, transmission, and v8 combo on the e9x m3 is sublime. I think bmw used some old school parts that make the driving experience more connected. The steering alone could arguably be one of best ever produced.

Thanks for your opinion. Though after initially purchasing one I'd have to say it's a pretty awesome car. It's fast, DCT shifts are lightening quick, it pulls like a freight train, wants to kill me when traction control is off (good), interior is nice, handling is awesome and puts a smile on my face everyday. I'm coming from a built golf r which was super fun but m3 is a different kind of fun in a good way. If you're like me and new to the bmw chassis the f80 is pretty awesome. It's hard to beat compared to other chassis (sedan).

So I own a 2016 F80 m3 but with a 6spd. Otherwise it’s the same spec as Spencer’s (mine is tanzanite blue w/ silver stone grey interior). I test drove the dct and the manual is just simply more fun, especially in the m3 vs the m4. On the m4 I believe the dct feels more at home because it’s slightly twitchier. I use to have an e46 m3, which I’ll be buying another one sometime in the future as my designated track car. Built n/a s54 and just have a nasty suspension setup

I daily a 2021 M2 Comp 6MT and I couldn't be more happy with it. Personally I don't mind the sound of the S55 but I do plan on doing the AA EL setup in the future.

I’m looking at 2008 M3 e92 MT 115k for 30-35k probably landing on 33k is that a decent deal? It was also just supercharged? Bearings all that have been done. Anyone? I get nervous about that and deferred maintenance especially when you see KBB showing the value for these cars at 16k that makes me Erie because lenders don’t like to lend over book values on used vehicles especially private part so you have to mostly find cash buyers willing to fork over the doe and not low ball you? I just don’t want to make a mistake it’s a super clean car, white with carbon roof exactly what I’m wanting, but is it the right move?

I own a 2016 f80, a 2011 335ix, and a 2011 328ix. For fun I took the f80 for a 1200 miles round trip from Fl to GA, it rained on my way back home for approximately twenty minutes, I didn't like the way the steering felt, it was too sensitive, so much so it got me nervous at one point. I have four new Michelin Pilot tires on the car. You are correct about the steering wheel, I was wondering whether it was me, then I remembered this video and rewatched it today, that's my only complaint about the car though. I prefer the way my 335 and 328 handle better than the f80 on wet pavements.

f80 owner and I approve this message! The f80 is dope and after having it for a while I love the car and if I wanna hit the track id rather take my brainrattling e46 :) IDK about "soul less" the car is definitely an enthusiast car and has a wild character. The 2 cars are just completely different and were designed with different priorities in mind + currently at two completely different price points which would also play into the built vs bought mentality... IMO a e9x 100% maxed out would cost abt the same as a f8x 100% maxed out

Thanks for sharing and mentioning I thought these machines would be really good and and more agile but like you said in handling in turns you were correcting and doing a lot of adjustments if this car is just good going and straight line it's not for me I prefer something more nimble and something where you can keep up the momentum around a track not fighting it the whole time

I’m with you with the sound, but for me the best platform is E46 M3. The perfect combo would the S65 swap and lightweight. I feel that E9X steering still numb compared to older M cars. I really don’t car this fast the car is. I just need to feel fast inside the car. The sound, the vibration, chassis that requires you to know how to drive make up for that feel.

From what you described in the video it sounds that you will love a Z4 M Coupe. I had one for a few years and it was probably the best car I owned in terms of drivability.

Interesting to hear you talk about the age groups and associated community. In the UK its the other way around, the majority of F8x owners tend to be quite young whereas the e9x owners tend to be older and have far more love for their m3 and the details.

Not surprising, this was exactly my feeling when I went from an E90 to an F32. I always wondered if the M car would have made much difference, but these are simply fundamental differences between the E and F 3er platforms. I special ordered my F32 with everything I wanted including the track handling package. I was initially impressed with how much power the N55 would put down with little effort and how luxurious and refined everything felt compared to the the E90. I quickly realize that was the whole problem with the car. It was so nice I was bored out of my mind no matter how much I tried to enjoy it. I never got used to the digital steering either. I also realized at that point that this evolution was here to stay, for good or bad, and the same could be said for most modern cars. A big part of the reason the BMWs in my garage today range from model years '89 to '02 and I have no intention of buying a new BMW (outside of an M2, maybe).

I had an E90 335i and I must say my M2c completely stock, chassis wise feels leagues better The 335 had bilstein coilovers and a stage 1 tune but the chassis was way less stiff imo, get the M2c you won’t regret it! Interior space imo is pretty similar, the dials are even similar in configuration (the smaller 2 dials vs the 2+2 small dials in F30)

Bought a 6 speed N55 M2 while I had a e90 dct. Even though I wanted a manual at the time more than a dct, I instantly regretted it and still do 4 years later. Even at 440whp on full e85, I’d trade it for a stock e9x. Whether it’s dct or manual I’m not sure but e9x > M2/3/4

Iv had hugely powerfull cars including a 450 bhp 180sx and a 658 bhp r32 gtr. I then bought an e46 m3. I'm now on my 7th year of e92 m3 ownership over 2 cars. The e92 m3 is quite possibly one of the greatest cars ever made. It's just such an amazing car. Everything about it. And the sound, feel, throttle response and high revs just makes it totally unique and exotic feeling. And even tho, they're are much faster cars out there, the e92 is still perfectly fast enough for any lunatic. Its got it all.

Lol. I own a Yas 6 speed comp. So let’s see….it weighs less, it has more power, more grip, a better power band It’s arguably the most reliable m car ever made. The “no soul” comment is pretty funny as well. The turbo sounds, the wastegate/exhaust noises on cold start or after WOT letting off at 3k rpm, the wide ass…… The exhaust is trash, but a competition with the flaps open helps “Can’t use the power”. I get mine sideways on the work commute daily, first gear with good tires that are at temp basically dead hook. The chassis/diff software in the competition is ace at higher speeds on corner exit. I will say, I owned a non comp before, and the diff programming was a bit more twitchy. “Crank hub issue” what’s the point of buying a f80 if it’s not for the 6 speed? 6 speeds have no issues. The steering is probably the best electronic rack Iv felt, but it could be better. I owned a auto-x prepped gr STI, I currently own a lancer evo 2 with full suspension/sways ect. My f80 is the real deal. If you want a “raw” car to “race” build a proper car.

Both 6 speed and 7 speed dct have the crank hub issue but the 7 speed dct is more aggressive so it's easier in a 7 speed to spin the crank hub unless you go from 6 to 1st in a Manual. I agree stock cars are meant to please a lot of people but building upon that stock car pleases you more specifically and can get it to feel like you want

Have owned 2 e90 M3 and an F80...couldnt agree more. Tech was nice in the F80 and it was fast as hell, but aside from the creature comforts and lower seating position, it was lifeless. Buying my 3rd e90 as we speak...prices are going to pop in the next 1-2 years for lower mileage examples - especially manual strippers.
