Love the look of the Mantis. I do agree that I would be more interested in a variant based on exploration or data-running. That being said, that's more due to my bias of being bad at space combat.

I really wish they would produce some variants for the Mantis. I am so in love with the look of the ship (it looks like a mini Connie!) but the QED is kinda useless for my playstyle. I can see them removing the QED and maybe having a radar dish or whatever. It already has the appropriate round shape! Heck they could even maybe remove the QED and give it a turret and make it into heavy fighter or something. Come on CIG!

It does seem odd to me that we see a civilian interdiction ship with such capabilities before one of military status.

Look at it as a Highway Patrol car, the military dont need to hold you. They out gun you, out run you, out everthing you (if not game balance is way off, UEE is Alpha we are all Betas nipping at the heels of the Empire for scraps). This is like bringing plastic hand cuffs to the party. The military dont care if they ravage your ship to disable you, they will just blow your engines out as well be able to track you from jump point to jump point (in therory their tech is beyond civi tech). As a civi we cant do these things so this is our equalizer.

@@mayoluck still seems like there would be military grade ships able to pull enemies out of quantum, or prevent them from escaping to it. For example, the Empire in Star Wars had and used interdictors to catch pirates and rebels, and in lore, used them at the Battle of Endor (second Deathstar) to prevent the Rebels from being able to retreat once they knew the station was operational, forcing them to fight until the last.

I would be so down for mantis exploration variant. If you throw the quantum denial device you could get enough room for a Grey cat. Put the lift in the back add some research station in the empty spaces of the craft in similar fashion to the reliant. You already have a basic living quarter inside. All in all you have yourself a fully functional small exploration ship after all this. I would definitely buy one

I was looking into taking a punt on this, upgrading from a 325 but I'm not sure. I totally agree that I would love an exploration variant of this one. I think it looks very cool and I LOVE that cockpit.

It might seem odd, but I love that it's not automatically a multi crew ship due to it's size. Would be nice if we could get more "larger" ships that can be solo'd.

Glad you were able to make this video! Very good looking ship, however, i dont' care for the gameplay (though I hope that if they do a pass on the Connies, they take some inspiration from this ship?) As for teh bugs, its a bit of a pain to get in the lift, but again, Pretty design. I TOTALLY agree I'd get a different variant of this ship... Again, I hope if they do a new look at the Connies, they look at this ship!

Also, an advantage of the lift is taht (as the game is now) you can leave the lift "open" or down when you're picking up boxes, lets say, and you just get o it and close it when you're in, and if the ship is locked, no one can use it.

If I recall correctly what happened when I've used that ship with a mate, once the Quantum thing activated, the shields of the Mantis went down and as we had the brillant idea to test this on cops, we were thoroughly and immediately under a heavy fire, taking a lot of damage. We managed to escape somehow and then I had a look to the inside of the ship: it had turned red and that was a complete opposite atmosphere in comparaison of the blue one the ship has when everything's fine. By the way, I remember the cannons are not that great though and that's a ship that is somewhat useless if you're alone.

Maybe useful for a box smuggler and for running away... Hold on a sec...it does not help you escape but hinders others from escaping from you Therefore...if you do not want to do lots of box missions (main single player use in my opinion) its only useful in a team...

Technically you can already go skiing with the ships, just fly to the top of a mountain, angle the ship towards the bottom of the mountain, keep the landing gear up, and turn the engines off. Some issues stopping at the bottom though xD

I’d like a larger mantis design with a fully enclosed cabin a small cargo area and a small utility rover, so I could spend the day exploring ruins or fossicking for gemstones, gold or even rare fruits and vegetables. Maybe diving gear for underwater caves?

This question may be a bit off, but I've always thought you've got fantastic audio quality! Both rich and crisp. What mic (and maybe preamp) are you using? Do you have sound damping foam type things in your recording area? There absolutely no hollow room sound. Like I said, absolutely fantastic audio.

Thanks glad you like the video. I spend over hr edited my audio removing click and background noise I use NT2A and a Tascam pre amp and a 286s dbx.

only complain is when you releasing pulse or wave, it doesnt feel right, so you do not feel small shake or some particles fly all around, because from sound it feels like it should destroy a ship, but visuals doesnt let you feel its power, but i like how red ball grows in size

The main thing I hate about this ship is the position of the pilot's seat. You have a cockpit that has glass in front, and on the left and right, yet the designer of this ship moves the pilot way back until behind the L and R side "windows" and his view is blocked by a massive wall on either side of him. Yet the space between him and the front windshield is so huge you an Uber ride to get to it. The disregard to function is mind-boggling! Also, they chose aesthetics over function with regards to the restroom door. You have a pair of pillars upon which the wall housing the door should have been based, but they chose to waste that 'prism-like" void in front of the door, although doing so would impede the person on the toilet seat. Utterly ridiculous. They always design these cockpits using a car "cockpit" as their reference, forgetting or ignoring the fact that drivers in a car are meant to be looking only forwards most of the time and the few times they need to look back, they have rear-view and side mirrors as aids. The driver also needs to see just the road in front of him. He doesn't need to see the road directly under him because it's a "predetermined" (pre-built) road, and he already saw it a few seconds ago. Not so when you're flying. Take a look at the way airplane windows are designed, whether it be a fighter or a commercial airliner. The pilot is placed so forward and so high that he can conveniently touch both the windshield and the ceiling. He can see below him and behind him, even in the cockpit of a huge airliner like the Airbus A380. With a cockpit like the one we have here in the Mantis, you only need is to move the pilot's seat so far forward that he's surrounded by the glass, and he gets the best view. Why they choose not to beats my wildest imagination. This is the same problem with the constellation, the 600i, the 890J. Why have surround sound if you're gonna be sitting outside the surrounding "curve" of the speakers? Same issue with every "bubble" canopy in Star Citizen. Look at the 300 series, the C8X Pisces series, etc. The head of the pilot is below the base of the side windows and he's so backward he's sitting between the two side pillars rather than in front of them. Solution: move him so forward he can touch the wooden panel in front of him, and raise him so high that the base of the glass is at his elbow. They're supposed to compress about 85 to 95 percent while bearing the weight of the aircraft, and extend fully while not carrying any weight (lift off). Here, CIG always makes their things backwards, it's so annoying. Here, they're almost fully extended even though the ship is landed. they only compress at the time of touch down, and instead of releasing a slight fraction of the compression since the legs are now bearing the ship, they release it all as though the ship is featherweight. TA, your content is always excellent. By way of style this one is too. However, it seems your a bit late to the party and I see a missed opportunity here. The video you opened with, what do you suppose would happen between the Mantis and a fully crewed Cat? Let’s just suppose the Cat was carrying just one snub and someone to fly it. The Mantis advert is misleading. It’s a cool looking ship but useless as a standalone it is being visually presented as. While you and I may have an awareness of this, those new to SC likely will not.

Glad you like the content. I have been working a lot over the past months still streaming at the weekends. I did say in the video you will need friends. If a cat turns up there is nothing you can do with the Mantis. I tried it, after shooting him for 5-10min I just flew off. You need a bigger ship with you to deal with a cat.

Thank you for the reply and pushing through to provide content. I think a more realistic real world outcome is the Mantis being destroyed while being caught in its own bubble. I did not see interdiction nullification in its description. I do hope we see a light fighter that is in fact interdiction nullified. It would be good to have a scout like that.
