I have to be honest Super Kaioken was awesome but I don’t think his body would withstand the output of the power and it would most likely burn him out and possibly even obliterate him completely because Kaioken is better used with a clear mind and Super Saiyan is more so used with more anger until it was explained that Saiyans at a certain power level could focus the energy into their backs and their personality would not be affected by the change but I still feel as though it would be a heavy drain

@@tehjboney3291 IRC even though it's technically not manga canon the explanation given for why Goku was able to do it at ALL in the Otherworld Tournament is the same as for why he why he said reaching SSJ3 would of been much harder on Earth: the bodies they have while dead are simply more durable and less prone to fatigue... because their dead so he's able to do shit like that he couldn't otherwise. Had Goku done it against Cell it would of just killed him.

The part about being dead, I've heard that before a bunch. Not sure from where, but I think I heard of it before DBS. From what I remember, it was that the ki being so out of whack would wreck his body to the point of killing him if he tried, and forget it for ssj2 or 3. Even while dead, he couldn't do it for more than a short burst of power. For whatever reason, I'm thinking it's from the buus fury GBA game, but I also doubt it. Most likely some KZbin vid somewhere.

@@HeavenlyZanpakuto Canon, from my understanding, is strictly based off of what the original creator wrote. Filler is extra scenes, chapters, or episodes that a third party adds. It can be for monetary reasons or to simply help the Creator in a time oriented situation, such as Toriyama continually working for 10+ years on the entirety of DB and DBZ. Those filler episodes would be the networks or whatever, idk, stepping in and giving him extra time to write/draw/create to progress the story.

I always wondered why the super kaioken wasn't feasible even in the fight against cell because we knew for a fact goku trained his super saiyan form to be rid of all the anger, minimize the strain on his body and feel overall identical to his normal state. If all that was truly the case, that should've hit all the 'checkmarks' for the kaioken so to speak. It never made much sense to me.

A late response, but I do think there is a reason; the super Saipan grade 4 stage golf used is still a super Saipan variant, it’s just one where the downsides are minimised- it’s like mixing pills and alcohol with the kaioken, you’ll still get a bad reaction even if you are using a 99% alcohol free drink because some is still there. Put another way, goku learned to ignore the rage of super saiyan, but it’s still a rage based form- he can’t stay a a super saiyan forever, just a long time. He needs a new form that has no rage at all I.e. blue to get the required stability. Does that make sense?

The way Super Kaioken looks was beast, the way Goku physically was red, including his hair. I get that doing this in Super would have just made it look similar to SSJ God, but I feel it was lazy to just add a red aura to the SSB aura.

Since using Kaioken while already SSJ is exceptionally risky and could destroy his body, he used it in the afterlife since he had way less of a stamina problem. Same for why he handled SSJ3 better when he was dead.

When Goku as fighting Cell he knew after the "warm-up" what he was dealing with. Which is why he kept fighting so Gohan could study Cell's fighting ability. If Goku felt that using the Kaioken was going to finish the job he would have done it. Writing out of the equation of course. Now if Goku was using the Kamehameha X10 from GT that would be interesting. I wonder if Geekdom will do a guide for that too since its technically Kaioken but in a Kamehameha form right?

I understand why grades 1-3 wouldn’t work but grade 4 of Super Saiyan should work with Kaioken since mastering Super Saiyan was to make it like the base form. No stamina, strain, or drawbacks in general. So in the end of the day Grade 4 should be able to be mixed with Kaioken based off this information.

I loved this💚 thank you for this video😊 On what you said towards the end, I think it’s a great thing Goku hadn’t brought up the Kaioken… because Cell May have also tried to use it and due to his healing factor and stamina might have gained tremendous advantage; luckily it was out of sight out of mind for him. I feel like Cell being what he is, might have been capable of pulling off a Super Saiyan Kaioken and just being able to surpass Gohan and Win. At least, that’s what I think. I think the missed opportunity with this technique is that Goku and Gohan had spent the remainder of their training mastering the super saiyan form while being in a state of calm. The anime even gave us some filler if I recall correctly. It seemed like the perfect setup for Goku to at least attempt Kaiou-ken against perfect cell. I guess we can place this in the "Toryama forgot" category.

I think he didn't use it until the after life tourney arc because he was too fearful of the likely disaster and after dying he likely during his training found that being dead gave him a number of advantages, hence the notion popped into his head. I can only presume from there he eventually found a way to tap into SSJ2 (and then three), and likely sleeved the notion of Kiaoken/SSJ until super, where the SSB's different nature made it easier but still very risky.

6:57 "Could he have beaten Cell?" I would argue that Goku did defeat Cell, even without the Super Kaio-Ken. Using the Instant Transmission technique, Goku charged up a super powerful Kamehameha, teleported directly beneath Cell, and absolutely incinerated him. All that was left of Cell was his legs; Cell was not conscious, and his regeneration ability is not super fast... it took Cell a bit of time to recover and regain his upper body. Goku won the fight, then and there. Cell was done; all he had to do was toss Cell's remains into the air and destroy them in a finishing blast. The only reason Cell ended up winning was because of Goku's mercy, the sort of "gotta fight fair" mentality that led him to giving Cell a senzu bean prior to fighting Gohan (though I would argue that finishing off Cell's remains in that scenario would also be "fair fighting", but that's beside the point). Through Goku's skill alone, Cell was incapacitated to the point that death was imminent; only because Goku allowed Cell the time to recover did Cell stage a comeback.

You know my head cannon is now the reason why vegeta trained cabba during the universe 6 tournament. Vegeta realized their universe never even heard of a super saiyan, decided to take advantage since cabba was basically his copy in universe 6 to make him the first super saiyan vegeta of universe 6. In the end ultimately to one up goku on being the first realized super saiyan of the new age. That’s one of the good wins that vegeta at least had in Super.

I think the reason why Goku didn't try this in the Cell Games was because he himself hadn't worked or trained on getting the thing going. Goku was more concerned on keeping SSJ1 in check and trying to find a form above SSJ1. That and he was trying to get Gohan to unlock Super Saiyan. Once they did, he wanted the both of them to concentrate on holding that form and even sleeping with it invoked. As that went on, he tried other Super Saiyan forms and tried to get to SSJ2, as that was his plans for training. Given the time, and what he was looking for, trying to use Kaio Ken in Super Saiyan just wasn't on his list of things to work on. He wanted to investigate other Super Saiyan forms, ascend above Super Saiyan and work on that form since it was more powerful. KK +SS was just not on his training materials and he knew going into battle having not mastered or even trying it was a death wish. After Cell Games he has all the time in the world so he's like "Hey, let's see if this is a decent technique to use."

If I remember correctly, in the show, King Kai explained how strenuous Kaioken was on the body. I remember being shocked that Goku used the Kaioken while in Super Saiyan. Do I think it would have worked on defeating Cell? I don't think so. At the time, Kaioken was only supposed to be used in short bursts. That is all we knew back in the DBZ days(we got a small glimpse of Ki control with Super Saiyan Grade 4). I can only see it possibly working if he used Super Kaioken to release the Warp Kamehameha. That would have been his only chance. Unfortunately, Goku knew he was not powerful enough to beat Cell. The only reason he fought him first was to show Gohan how Cell fought. He knew Gohan was stronger than himself, and if Cell backed Gohan into a corner, then Cell would force Gohan to release his hidden powers. That was foreshadowed since the beginning of Z. If he used it periodically throughout the fight, then I think the fight would have ended sooner because of the strain it has on stamina. I think Goku’s chance of it actually working was to use it on the Warp Kamehameha. Even then, I wouldn’t be so sure. To hard to play what-ifs. We got what we got. I thought after Goku’s death in the Cell saga, Gohan would become the protector of Earth. Unfortunately, Gohan’s weakness is extreme. He is either overconfident in his abilities. This is shown during his fight with Cell and Majiin Buu. Or his underconfidence in his abilities to defeat his foe.

I think Goku was only able to use it in the afterlife because he didn't have the same limitations as in the mortal plane. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Goku used the Kiao-ken to unlock SS3 in his training. I am curious how Goku figured out how to by-pass the extreme stress this technique places on his body after all it would multiply by his base. Perhaps saiyan biology is adaptable like Doomsday in D.C. comics?

I wish Toriyama had gone with the idea of Super Kaioken instead of Super Saiyan 3. Back in the Cell Games when Gohan went Super Saiyan 2, we didn't know it was Super Saiyan 2 at the time. It didn't get that name until the Buu Saga. At that time Super Saiyan 2 could have been viewed as some form unique to Gohan or unique to human/saiyan hybrids. Then in the Buu Saga we could have Goku revealed he learned how to combine Super Saiyan and Kaioken in Other World. I mean he did master Super Saiyan back in the Cell Saga, so given that and given he had an other world body, he may have been able to use Kaioken with Super Saiyan more easily. Though it could still create stamina problems for him like Super Saiyan 3 does in the actual canon, so the plot wouldn't really change that much. You would just have to make everyone else, especially Buu, stronger so a potential Super Kaioken X20 wouldn't overpower everyone. For Vegeta they could have taken the idea of Super Saiyan 3, but make into a form unique to Vegeta's royal lineage. I just like the idea of after the characters mastering Super Saiyan in the Cell Saga, they go on to create their own unique variations of Super Saiyan, instead of just having numbered levels to Super Saiyan. It seems more creative. Particularly in the case of "Super Kaioken" it would have been poetic to have Goku take his two major sources of power increase, Kaioken and Super Saiyan, and combine them together in what was the final arc of the manga at the time.

I feel that super kaioken kamehameha against cell wouldve worked because cell...even super perfect cell was weaker than ssj2 gohan who gohan killed with half of his power being gone. So a super kaioken goku wouldve been enough to destroy cell. And grade 4 ssj couldve helped him manage the symptoms of the super kaioken and regulate the ki more. I see him having the delayed ki disorder after killing cell but it shouldve worked.

I imagine it is possible to utilise both SSJ and Kaio ken since being in ssj grade 4 not only means maintaining the form as a regular base form but also maintaining the Ki within the user's body opening a door to use Kaio Ken but only for short periods of time and with a lot of practice and training.

Since Goku mastered ssj before Cell games and he got rid of the rage feeling, he said it was like he is in his base form so if he was about to use Kaioken it would be like using it in his base which isn't something hard for him anymore

Love the new music Geekdom! I don't think Goku would've been able to finish Cell with Super Kaio-Ken. Cell was too powerful. Goku would've burned out too early. Can't wait for the next video!!

I noticed that Goku used Super Kaioken against Pikkon after the mental, emotional and physical pain and alleviation he gained when he broke through Pikkon's attack. Goku gave a deep sigh indicating relief and breathing preparation for the Kaioken. So I don't think it was planned nor really thought out deeply, but enough to get some payback for such an attack. Another point to make is how busted Cell was against Pikkon in hell. It felt awesome to see, by it was like Marvel writers trying to establish how an obsolete or C/B level character really stack up against an A level character - Skrull Prinnces Spider Woman vs Wolverine is the idea. They needed us to see what the villains and Goku were up against. However, when Pikkon finally fights Goku, he gets a major punch while they both are in base form. But it wasnt much of a thing. He couldn't push Goku back at all in strength, and yet he KOed a post-resurrected Cell who gained more power as a Superdroid 2 level? It made no sense. My guess is Goku had finally acquired Super Saiyan 2 power in his death and although I doubt Goku would have been strong enough to beat Cell - he gained another massive Zenkai boost in his 2nd death... _(actually his first b/c he didn't fully die... And I would argue that Cell never rally reached SS2 when he returned against the Z Fighters because he himself states that regenerated with all of his power in tact. That only means at the highest, possible zenith of Cell's power, he actually regained it all back without having to power up - ie Perfect Cell at first birth vs Perfect Cell at height of planetary explosive power. If you take the height of Cell's power unleaded which is his self-destruction, you put that power onto his original perfect transformation and you get --- *SUPER PERFECT CELL!*)_ I think Cell had reached SS2 at this point. So Pikkon was a lot stronger than that in order to kick smack Cell around like that. Still, it makes sense that Goku had reached it. Why we never got the electricity plucks from him I dont know. But to think that Goku would gain such a zenkai boost and still not be strong enough to reach SS2 is hard to accept.

It’s cuz ssj is a power up but it’s unstable based on rage while ssjgss is a complete control of power so he can use it in that state

In Super, Goku makes it pretty clear that the only reason he can use the Kaioken on top of blue is because of the perfect ki control, and even then there was still the risk that it may have killed him. And we know the bodies the characters receive in the afterlife are significantly more durable, so personally I head-canon this one as something he could only do while dead. Otherwise it becomes a minor plot hole, not that DB is free of those of course.

SO Goku's grade 4 ssj was meant to act like his base form. It gets rid of the emotional part of ssj, or at least greatly nullifies it. This would let Goku use kaioken. So Goku could have tried to use kaioken x3 to fight cell, and we know Goku can handle x20 max. I'd say Goku could have used that to his advantage to be roughly equal or greater than Gohan ssj2 depending on the kaioken level he uses.

I’ve got a question: So you mentionedhow goku wouldn’t have been able to stack them because the fact that super saiyan was a rage-based form would contradict that you need to be one with your mind, body, and spirit. However, when goku snd Gohan went into the room or spirit and time, I thought that they had applied this aspect to super saiyan as well. I remember Vegeta commenting about how they were super saiyan even when eating food, and being their normal goofy selves. And when they spent the day with krillin, he mentioned how they were even super saiyan when they were asleep. Wouldn’t this mean that it’s safe to say that they both had achieved full control of their emotions in the SSJ form, so goku wouldn’t have had a problem with balancing the kaioken and SSJ? Sorry for the long-winded comment, but it’s just a curiosity that crossed my mind when watching the video. Also, sorry if the comment doesn’t make sense, I am a bit drunk while writing it lol

One question though: if Kaioken is the result of mind, body and spirit, and it's hard to use with Super Saiyan because of the rage, what about characters who didn't learn Super Saiyan through rage, like Goten or kid Trunks? Would they have an easier time learning Kaioken? Looking forward to your next video mate!

Goku knew very well the limits of his body and his abilities. He never trained using the super kaioken, never used it, never even mentioned it while alive because he knew for a fact the strain would instantly kill him. It is only his dead afterlife body that made it not only possible, but trivial (he just did it, no training required, meaning he knew how to all along, but it just wasn't possible until that point). That being said, I don't think it would've been enough to finish Cell, just not enough time to obliterate every single cell of Cell.
