@@buckaroobanzai7063 It's one of those things were his powers have outgrown his character. The powers have even outgrown their setting. Why is the Joker still a problem when Superman can hear his laugh from across the planet, and the flash is fast enough to patrol every square inch of the world in the time it takes a neuron to flash? How is Clark Kent able to find time to be him, when he can hear someone being raped on the other side of the world, and can be there and back before his clothes even fall to the ground? The constant power escalations have left us in a weird point where our heroes can't be humans who strive to do good, because there's so much good to be done at all times that they're capable of that they have to become machines. In this 15 minute break one of several options had to have happened. 1. Nothing bad happened anywhere that there wasn't a super there to handle it. No one even fell off a roof and screamed. The world is peaceful, safe, and quiet. 2. He is willingly letting awful things happen to have a lunch break. 3. He's been momentarily nerfed, because he can't have this scene with the amount of power he has.

Superman being wholesome is best Superman. Because that's how he was raised. The Kents were wholesome Kansas folk, and they raised their son right, to care about people. Supes loving his parents and the love he received from them is what makes him him. Sort of like Batman. Batman was raised by his parents right, loved by them. He saw their love of life, and care for others, as they did what they could for Gotham. But they were taken away from Batman, and it's his love for them and what they believed in that keeps him going. But yeah, wholesome Supes is the standard.

I like this one. But my favorite is the one where he gets asked to help with a woman standing on a ledge. But instead of just grabbing her and bringing her down, he hangs out with her all day and night just talking until she's ready to come down on her own. Also, the one where he rescues an abused little boy from his father is great. Really, any story where he helps or connects with regular people is great because it helps show his humanity and that even everyday people and events are still important, even if they aren't newsworthy.

To be fair this is my biggest issue with most stories, be it novels, novellas, novelletts, cartoons, comics, movies, what have you, most of them always try to make big waves, saving the world, universe... the power creep in combat animes is ridiculous... I love the stories like those from Star Wars that just take place on a low level, some crooks doing their thing, maybe at worst they run into a few imperial stormtroopers, no Jedi, no Sith, no exploding celestial bodies or DnD stuff that's basically just a low level party helping out a town that has some goblins in the forest and the big reveal is that it was actually more than 3 goblins. Or better twist is that it's actually the goblins being the good guys or something.

I think we took the Big Blue Boy Scout for granted. The world got cynical and grim, and so did the comics. After so many iterations of tyrannical Superman and brainwashed Superman and lackey Superman and tormented Superman, it's nice to see him turning back into what he always was: the very best a person could be, for whom no kindness is too small, and with the strength to never compromise his principles for anything. He's supposed to be a symbol of hope, and this is how he actually inspires hope.

How many heroes can you realistically see doing this? Superman, Spider-Man, Barry Allen, maybe Hal Jordan, and a handful of others. The majority would put you away and forget you even existed.

Wonder Woman would, but she caused too many accidents by her mere presence. 😁

You wouldn't actually eat lunch like that with no safety line. Even the original photo was a staged stunt.

"So there I was, having lunch with my buddy Kal, up on the high steel (takes too long to come down, you know?). So outta nowhere comes this dude, flying in a thing like a motorcycle with rockets instead of wheels, no sh**. He's a scary-looking dude, too -- really big, jacked, white as milk. Wild black hair, red eyes, all decked out in biker leather. Even had a big chain wrapped on his arm. Serious poser, right? Same as I thought... but he swings the chain and just SMACKS right through the girder we're sitting on. I mean, like it was made of mud. So of course, I start falling, as is customary. Now, Kal would normally catch me, he's pretty cool about that sort of thing, but as I'm flipping over and over and yelling for help, I see the biker guy has Kal against an upright and is just going to town on his face with the big hook. Did I mention there was a big hook, like from a crane, on the chain? Well, there was."
