@@synth4ever would you still recommend the MW XT in 2021? Do you find it different from the Iridium? Are they both worth having or would you rather have Iridium/Quantum if you were picking today?
@synth4ever4 жыл бұрын
@@shawnsaul7759 I haven't tried the Iridium and it is a different beast with far more capabilities (ie granular, FM etc), but it sounds a bit more clean/clinical than XT IMO. If I were picking today it depends on price and interface, and if you want the extra functions of Iridium/Quantum. The XT is pretty much knob per function and I like that. I would like to try Iridium in future if I have opportunity but I'd still be keeping the XT as its pretty much hands on and immediate tweaking vs using a touchscreen/menus.

Frankly, one of the best synth videos around you tube. Can ask you how much it took yu to mount the secuences ( in time) thnak you
@synth4ever10 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. This was an arpeggiated pattern, not a sequencer. It took me maybe 10 mins to get the notes/pattern I wanted, and then I let the arpeggiator loop.
@synth4ever9 жыл бұрын
Jeff Ali Hi Jeff, I used a MIDI keyboard to play the arpeggiator notes initially, then it looped and I tweaked the XT's knobs from there. Alternatively you could program a sequence or arpeggio using a computer DAW program (ie Ableton, Fruity Loops etc) and have the XT play your pattern that way without MIDI keyboard. Hope that helps. :)
@synth4ever9 жыл бұрын
Jeff Ali Are you referring to using a MIDI keyboard to play an areggio in real time? Yes it allows that. There is no step sequencer on the XT, however, so if you wanted to program specific notes/steps you'd need to use an external sequencer. The XT would then play back the notes in real time so you can tweak in real time.

Beautiful. Gave me goosebumps and brought a tear to my eye. I was wondering if you could help me. I was looking to buy a synth and unfortunately I've been reading too much on the internet and have gotten caught up in all the analog vs digital hype. Is it possible to create these sounds on an analog synthesizer? And also, is this type of synth able to make more varied sounds? Thanks.
@synth4ever11 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for your kind words. In regards to your questions... 1. It may be possible to approach some of these sounds on an analog, however not 100%. The Waldorf XT is a digital wavetable synthesizer which uses a different synthesis method (wavetables) vs. subtractive synthesis, and further it is digital and not analog... therefore you will never get an exact reproduction. 2. Yes, the synth is capable of more varied sounds. The presets have lots of different types. That said in this video I am only demonstrating one wavetable sound and a basic arpeggiator. One can program many different types of sounds using the various wavetables and parameters avail. Bottom line, it depends on the type of sounds you are looking to create. In general, analog tends to sound more "authentic" for most people, but digital synths also have their place and can do some things analogs cannot. Best bet is to try as many synths as you can and see what you like, sonically speaking. Cheers
@DonaldMohrMusic10 жыл бұрын
This is bigger than digital vs analog. This is wavetable synthesis. You will not be able to achieve all of these sounds with an analog synth. There are a few you can get very close and be extremely happy with. In addition, FM synthesis, which is also digital can produce sounds that analog, subtractive synthesizers will not be able to. This is the barb that is synthesizers. You can't do everything with just one. Analog sounds can be done with this particular synth, so I find the digital/analog debate dull. A good sound is a good sound regardless of how it was produced.
